  • Bill German’s book, Under Their Thumb is a true account of his life with the Rolling Stones. It's also one of the greatest rock n roll memoirs ever written.
German met the band while he was a teenager, shortly after launching his Stones-only magazine, Beggars Banquet. The publication lasted for seventeen years, during which time he traveled the world with the Stones, stayed at their homes, and witnessed their recording sessions. He lived the dream of every Rolling Stones fan, until he eventually had to leave the life behind.

This is probably THE best video interview of Bill German (complete with his impersonations). It's great to be able to see something like this in Japan, amid the pandemic! And, of course, I'm in love with his book Under Their Thumb!

Great interview. It took 2 years for this to hit my YT feed, but better late than ever! I've been a major Stones fan since 1981 and Bill German and his book "Under Their Thumb" is my favorite book about them. I read it 4 times...Thanks for having him on!

You ask some new questions! He notes at 42:30 that the charm of his book might be that he presents them as regular people, and for me, that is it. The book really humanizes them. He was chronicling the lives of what are actually modern historical figures....it's a great book.
