  • The EASY way to replace the alternator in the 2nd generation Dodge Ram (94-01/02) with a 5.2 or 5.9l. I also talk about the harness placement and where the wires go, especially the ground bc I flaked where the placement was, don't judge! Lol.

    I need mine changed, on my Dodge Ram 1500, the battery cords keep burning out on the red positive, and there’s three cords for the nagative black cords that aren’t connected properly. It still turns on, but only drives slowly. Any advice?

    Really wish you had it from the beginning 😕with timing belt

    • @dewdrop3009
      @dewdrop3009 Год назад +7

      It's actually a serpentine belt, removing it won't effect timing, Those magnums have timing chains.
      To remove the serpentine belt you just use a 14mm socket on the tensioner bolt. (Clockwise to release tension) the tensioner bolt is located on the left (passenger side) of the alternator pulley. If you need visuals 1A auto has a youtube video "How to Replace Serpentine Belt 94-02 Dodge Ram 1500"

    My 5.9 the alternator has to come out the back. With the fan shroud on mine I cannot bring it through the front like yours. There is no room.

      Best thing to do is have your VIN run because it depends...here is a link to get more of an idea of how to find out which is in your rig.
      www.dodgetalk.com/threads/98-ram-alternator-amps.32987/
      You can always call a Dodge dealership, they run the VIN and can give exact details on it, I had the LA version and the parts were obsolete or were becoming that way. Best of luck.

    Where does that positive wire hook up !! Plz

    • @karnee26
      @karnee26  3 года назад +2

      Back side of the alternator closer to the passenger side. Then the negative drops down to the lower bolt closest to the passenger side.

      Pick and pull is the ONLY place I've ever found the, and I always pul 2-3 of them, if you can find them... usually 1 out of 2 or 3 will work. Good luck!

      Have you checked to see if the fuel pump is coming on? If you have someone with you, have them advance the key while you put your ear to the tank side of the van or you can always rubber mallet the tank while the other person turns the ignition. I've had that happen, hitting the tank jumped the pump and the truck started, so I had to have the pump replaced.

      @theblankpage4167 2 года назад

      @@karnee26 I will have to find a diagram that shows me where the fuel pump is. I could have someone help as well. What someone said is it could be an alternator as well.

    • @karnee26
      @karnee26  2 года назад

      Always remember these 3 things...Air, fuel, fire. Air is the easiest to check for, then fire (start with battery, then alternator and starter) after those, ground wires and spark plugs. The 3rd is fuel, listen for the pump, tap the tank (if it's in the tank or check the fuel rail to see if it has pressure), fuel filter and last would be your lines.
