I have a 2020 Longhorn with 55000 miles making the annoying whining noise. I took it to the dealer today, and they said the MGU needs replaced. I'm betting it's the tensioner. Fortunately, I purchased a service contract for my Ohio/Canadian truck with a voided Canadian manufactuer warranty. This video is very helpful for changing the MGU or the hydraulic tensioner. Thankyou for posting this.
Sorry, I only had the new alternator installed for a few minutes. Since my issue was a whining noise as soon as I started my truck and still heard the same noise I shut it off and put my original alternator back on. When I did start it up with the new alternator I did see the same things on my dash though, but they went away when I put my old alternator back in. Good luck to you and thanks for checking out our channel. :)
Is there anyway anyone can help me, I have this exact same truck with that alternator, I have a wire harness that’s broken on the right side fender rail and goes down to a connector, bought the pig tail off eBay but only has ten wires and mine has 12. Need to know where to put the other two wires.
I had a whining noise that got louder with increased RPMs. It turned out to be the lower pulley. Even though the pulley would spin freely and not make any noise when I had the pulley removed. But once the pulley had tension on it the whining noise returned. I replaced the lower pulley and the noise went away. Thanks for checking out our channel and good luck in your troubleshooting.
Sorry, not sure as the alternator was not what was making the noise so I pulled the new one out and put my original one back in. Good luck with your Ram and thanks for checking out our channel.
I am not sure as my issue was a whining noise that ended up being the lower pulley. So I removed the new alternator and put my old one back on, so I did not have to get the computer working with my Ram. Thanks for checking out the channel. :)
Thanks for checking out our channel. And you are correct, but the search term Ram 1500 Generator receives about 1% of searches compared to Ram 1500 Alternator. Maybe I should add a tag for generator to cover anyone searching for that term. :)

Glad it helped. Mine ended up being the lower tensioner. Thanks for checking out our channel and good luck on your noise fix. :)

You have to have the dealer flash the new part.

Thanks for checking out the channel, but I did not have to do any wiring on mine. Hopefully you will find a wiring diagram for it. Good luck.
what issue were you having?

Do you have to reflash the alternator (computer) ?
Sorry, not sure as the alternator was not what was making the noise so I pulled the new one out and put my original one back in. Good luck with your Ram and thanks for checking out our channel.
You can swap that top piece from old one if not computer need to put new part information otherwise it won’t charge
@davemc3650 what's the top piece called?
It has to be programmed after you replace it

Generator not alternator
