Ellen is that great kind of expert that can teach instead of taking over. She's wonderful. I have so much jacket envy now;)
Only you, Laura, could get an old mechanic to watch a sewing video. Great video and a very cool jacket!
With all the waterproofing around the pocket, you should put a flap to cover it or else water might pool up in it. Maybe put a small drain hole on the bottom?
Very cool project!!😎
Or add a straw! hahaha
Something I did not expect on your channel but HELL YEAH!
Thanks!!
I love your videos, Laura. They come with the right amount of talking, the right amount of showing, and the right amount of Smudo. Cheers!
Also: sewing machines are 3D printers, IMO. My mom taught me how to sew. I repair all my clothes now. -Eric.
Not sure about a 3D printer but in a way they are additive manufacturing machines sort of, a human being feeds one or more pieces of cloth into the machine and combined with thread that is provided by the human but used by the machine outcomes some product that is a combination of cloth and thread and stitches and perhaps a few other products that is able to serve some useful purpose that it wasn't able to individually as parts
@GardenFork - I have a friend that is self taught on the sewing machine. She's freaking amazing. She's in the process of getting ready to start her own channel for upcycling fabrics of all types and sizes into amazing things. People are coming out of the woodwork to give her things because they know she's working on stuff and they don't want to throw it in the trash or wasted so they're just giving it to her for stockpile. It's just getting insane, but she is amazing and she'll figure out what to do with it all.
I agree the sewing machine is a powerful tool. I can't say that I wish I knew how cuz I've got my own ball-o-wax to deal with but they are very, very, clever tools.
While back and shoulders are importan I would have also added at least some elbow protection. I've never driven a motorcycle but I used to scoot around a lot with all kind of mobile vehicles and if it is one thing I've learned is that you will always somehow fall on your elbow's. Maybe even some wrist protection since you'll never know how or what you might hit with your arm and from what angle. But I have to admit, thats a pretty nice jacket!. Good job Laura.
Wow. What’s even better then an cool jacket to buy - one that you made all by yourself, customized. Great job - love it!
so great to see the kampf sewing studio. great video👍
Wow! What a creativity...hats off..and thanks for such wonderful idea....
I absolutely love when you're both laughing and clearly having so much fun together.
Cool project, next thing you can add inside the jacket, a 12v Terrarium warming wire you plug on battery when riding in winter :-)
Seeing you guys work together just makes me smile
Yeah!!! I'M GLAD to see you break as many needles as I do, when I make something with the sewing machine, Your Jacket is so nice, I Love it, I Love how you are constantly creating
This was such a fun collaboration to see! Many of my favorites featured: you two, sewing, motorcycles, safety, friendship, dogs, I could go on... ⚡️
Brilliant! Absolutely! I love it! Great videographer too. Whoever shot this did a great job. Thank you for sharing and inspiring through your actions.
Yeah, it’s Christian-he is awesome
What a fantastic upgrade on your jacket. Thanks to both of you.
Really fantastic project, Ellen is really talented and the jacket really came out looking great!
I’m so impressed with your continuing humble desire to learn new skills! It’s very inspiring!
Using a Leatherman to make a leather jacket. You need the Leatherman Raptor shears to add to your sewing kit. Your new shop has so many unique work areas that Santa’s elves will be applying for jobs.
Awesome! I've been neglecting improving my sewing skills, seeing one of my favorite makers get into this makes me want to get back to work too :)
I had such a moment of joy recognizing the same sewing machine I inherited from my mom. Lovely project!
What an awesome movie again! :) I had the pleasure myself to get a small lesson from Ellen and she is a true master, not only in sewing, but also in teaching! Much love to both of you two, can't wait to see you next weekend again! 🖤
What an awesome project! Finding the right motorcycle jacket has been a challenge for me too! I think I have four and am not a big fan of any of them.
So now I want to create my own custom jacket but also I need to learn to be an auto mechanic so I can rebuild my motorcycle 😆
Thank you for the inspiration!
Wow, what a cool sewing project! Such a nice idea, I would never even have thought of making you own motorcycle jacket from a normal jacket! Great work both of you, soo much fun watching you having fun 👍😀
Awesome video (as always I have to say) ! But this leatherman is a risk of injuries if you fall, be carefull. (I feel concern as I'm a motorcyclist too)
She kind of have to wear a knife - guns are illegal in Germany.
Great work ladies, it was Ellen who convinced me to start sewing! She is a legend. Where did you find the reflective thread?
That’s really cool. I’m lucky to have a bag made by Ellen, her work is absolutely top notch. 👍🏻
It looks fantastic! And I love that you and Ellen are working on such great projects together already! I can't wait to see what else you make!
This was wholesome, amazing project, amazing people
Unusual project. Now you can drive safely! 👍👍
Y'all did a wonderful job on that jacket!
And using the reflective thread was brilliant!
Fantastic upgrades! This next month is going to be awesome! Can't wait to see what you two do next! Thanks for sharing!
Great video! You're enjoying life and this is contagious!
A couple of tips from a experienced maker:
If you set the ball-head pins at 90º from the sewing line, you don't need to take them off to sew through. Try it.
A really important thing to get straight sew lines is the gesture, the position of the hands. They have to move together (as they were jointed by a invisible bar) stretching the clothes, setting both pinky fingers at the front and both thums under the cloth, leaving let's say a foot between hands. You'll get better control. Have a look at the pros.
Regards from Majorca!
Sorry, right thumb under the cloth and left on it...
Awesome! You should make some Biking videos... Some trips maybe?
This is so awesome. Great to see you two working together on such a cool project. Keep it up!
Im so happy to skip work, and came onto youtube today.. hehe
Awesome project! Congrats
I'm just not sure if you'll want a Leatherman on your back if you meet the ground, serious danger.
Why? Oh, wait, you said letterman not leatherman, it's a joke! I didn't get it at first.
@@PatrickPoet tks, I corrected the spelling. If you ride a motorcycle and fall such a tool can get into your body or seriously damage your skin. That's why you should wear pads and get away from hard and sharp metal stuff around you
@@samuelf.5244 I would have guessed it would just flip away, it's just clipped on. I've ridden motorcycles all my life including experiences going down at speed. When folded up there's no pointy bits at all. It's just a flat rectangle of metal with a clip.
@@PatrickPoet it was just an observation, people can do what they will. I wish you the best
@@samuelf.5244 I had some hard pointy bits (keys & keychain) in a front jeans pocket when I totaled my first bike. They just tore a hole out of my jeans and I found them on the roadside.
I agree it's a risk, though there's a lot of risk on a motorcycle already. I don't think this adds a whole lot of extra problems.
Great work on the jacket!
Gonna sew myself now .. THANKS alot for the video , waiting for more videos from you ma'am .
I like the continued collaboration on your channel. Although I also miss the old shop where there was a sense of being there with you doing small scale projects.
Well, one thing you can say, is that your jacket is one of a kind. No one else will have one like it. Nice job. 👍👍👍👍🇦🇺
Jacket looks great, it was awesome to see how it was done and all of it come together so nicely.
lovely work. Really interesting project was fun to watch and given me a lot of ideas. Just for reference though, motorcycle jackets generally come with kevlar stitching (triple stitched) so that when you come off the jacket doesn't disintegrate not sure if you used this but all the seams should be kevlar thread. Also the abrasion resistance depends on the material so not sure how much this would protect against gravel/road rash.
Great addition to your skills. Toss in a few sewing project now and again. Thanks for the content.
WOW! what an incredible project! Both of you made it look so easy, although I'm sure that it wasn't. Can't wait to see any future projects!
Wow! Thank you! Very informative.
Great stuff Laura and Ellen!
Didn't know it was possible to make Barbour jackets even cooler. You two just proved me wrong... geile Arbeit, ich will jetzt auch so ne Jacke, aber werde wohl erst mal mit nem Handtuch oder so anfangen, die Singer steht schon auf dem Tisch. :-) Sieht nicht gerade nach einem Anfängerprojekt aus. Sehr cool! Danke und weiter so!
I know this older video but I hope you consider doing a beginners sewing series. Everything from threading the machine, changing broken needle or why and what to do when your bobbin gets a knotted mess….thats where I am at…stuck and my machine is collecting dust because I tried to figure out how to fix it.
Work worthy of recognition
Very cool project Laura!!!
Nice..you are so pretty Laura..love your work!
You flipped the script and pulled out a video that has to do with motorcycling. You and Ellen make it look so effortless, great video. Safe riding Laura.
Loving your ever-evolving skill-set and video style. Cheers- thanks for sharing:)
Beautifully done. Each piece of protective gear can make a difference in a crash. I thought I alter a lot of things, but you put me to shame! Anyway, great job putting in the protective gear. There is always something better out there; I can't afford KLIM, so I alter my stuff and rewaterproof it. And after you crash, repair the gear. I will upgrade some of my crash protection from what I've learned here.
I've joined Crafting with Ellen, as I do sew but not very well despite doing it all my life.
Awesome! All the Gear, All the Time!
Ellen is amazing. Watch her baseball cap video. -Eric.
Ellen has great tutorial videos. See makes it easy to understand. So Laura you must of gained lots of experience having a one on one with Ellen.
Yes! She is a great teacher!
That is such a cool jacket!
It’s soooo sick! Y’all killed it 🤟 great job and love the creativity
Great project again
awesome to see proper sewing.. was half expecting hot glue!
Awesome jacket. I'm going to have to try out that waterproofing wax. Looks like it works amazing!
It probably needs maintenance every so often but it really does work great from what I've heard!
What is the name of the product?
Just rode home from work! Ride safe Laura, that jacket is badass! Giving me ideas for my own
So awesome! Ellen is THE Master Craftswoman! 😄
Yes she is!!
Going from wood grain to material threads 🧵 and still inspiring. As they say two birds one stone. Makes me feel like a butter on flap jacks.
Excelente ideia! Parabéns!
Awesome stuff Laura, you and Ellen did a great job! 😃👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
One of the first series of GS, damn !
Ellen just got a new sub! Superb stuff from both of ya. Thank you.
Hi Laura !Nice work !Great job !
boulevard of broken needles :D:D:D this is awesome
Nice! Super aproved jacket. Fits perfectly to your old BMW! Keep up inspiring us!
Hella cool. Oh yeah, I keep snapping needles all the time when shortening jeans for my short legs... But I like hand sewing a lot, especially putting patches on my cut-off. Keep the metal kutte alive! That wax trick is brutal thouth, I'm impressed. I could put that to use on the cut-off, at least to kinda make the pockets a bit more water resistant, my phone will thank me in the rain.
Yay! Two amazing makers!
very impressive work
Great project, excellent work.
So cool two friends making together perfect :)
Toll, etwas gern zu tragen und es dann noch zu verbessern! Schöne Arbeit!
Great video Laura ! And sweet jacket !!! I would love to have Ellen teach me to sew !!!!
Amazing job 👍
she’s beautiful and i love her 😍
Nice work!!!
But please do not carry on that bolt pocket ,pens, pencils, screwdrivers or anything that could end up on you kidneys during an accident!!
Yes, safety first, and I wonder if that jacket would hold up in a slide. In May I was hit by a driver and my gear saved my life. I would leave protection to the professionals because they have been doing it for a long time. I would also pay whatever it costs for quality gear now that I see what it can actually do to protect your head and body.
@@autumngreenleaf3390 so true! ATGATT for me as well, especially after being ran off the road by a car. This jacket won't stand any sort of fall though. The protective elements will just be ripped out when the outer shell gets shredded. Looks cool though!
@@dominiquebertin921 If you slide you want something that will hold up to that, which is sold now. If you are hit and fly off the bike like I was, everywhere the protective elements are, they will protect you.
@@autumngreenleaf3390 i did both, eventhough i had decent elbow protection it still was the size of a melon and i cracked some ribs. Could have been way worse though.
@@dominiquebertin921 Hope you're doing well now. Sounds like a brutal event. Mine too. It was horrific. Still recovering at this point. And yes, thank God it was not worse.
Awesome! Love the Bernina. A great machine!
Great video... I love your jacket. Just remember motorcycle jackets also need to protect your skin when you fall. What you're doing here can be accomplished by buying armored shirts (there are a bunch of companies which make them) which are a stretchy top with armor incorporated into it. You can wear them under any coast... problem is, you still need to protect against abrasion. Which is why real motorcycle jackets are either thick leather, or 600 dernier fabric with very strong seams.
Great job!
I have to improve my sewing skills and get to making one of those for my bike riding.
Thanks Laura & Ellen! (And Schmoodo)
That jacket looks amazing! I’m super jealous, hope it gets some serious love throughout its lifetime! Awesome video Laura, keep it up! :D
Nice work !
Great job!
Mal ganz was anderes. Tolle Cooperation, ich bin gespannt, was noch kommt. Danke fürs Zeigen und Allzeit gute und sichere Fahrt
I just love when I see you using your Leatherman
Me too :)
The jacket looks super cool and I love the project. I'd be worried that a wax jacket wouldn't have the abrasion resistance of a normal biker jacket. Do you know how well it would fare in a slide? Mainly asking because I'd love to copy it!
Sweet jacket!
Nice bike, oh yea, nice jacket too.
Beautiful, nice, amazing!!!
Wonderful work! It makes me want a motorcycle jacket... well and a motorcycle. If I start riding motorcycles again I'm holding you two accountable. :-)
I'm okay with that ;)
Nice work Laura and Ellen. Laura, is there anything you don't make? The wax impermeabilization was a very good idea!
I love your videos.
I love this! I'm a rider too, and have been trying to figure out how to do this very thing to a jacket I love. What is the textile you used to make the armor-pockets? And where did you get that reflective thread? I can sew and am inspired to try this myself.
