Technical Tuesday: What does it all mean? MR? DR? Combat? Elite?

- Today's Technical Tuesday, we are discussing the product line. What is MR? What is DR? What about Combat and Elite? How do I pick what's right for me?
There are currently two frame sizes. The MR-sized frame, which is a 15+1 9mm, and you have the DR-sized frame, which is a 17+1. The DR would be considered a true full size pistol, while the MR would be more in the compact-sized handgun.
The MR stands for Multiple Role. The 15+1 9mm sized gun is truly multipurpose--you can use them a duty guns, you can EDC them, it's a great home defense gun. This is a size class that covers a lot of bases and is still very shootable.
The DR stands for Duty Role, and that's who we designed it for. Shadow Systems now has a growing presence in the Law Enforcement market, which we are very excited about. The DR frame is geared towards those with larger hands, or appreciate the fuller capacity, or just want a full size pistol with a longer sight radius.
The MR and DR distinctions really just refer to the frame size. Now, let's talk about the pistols themselves.
We have the MR920; 15+1 guns with a standard 4" barrel--a compact handgun.
The MR920L (Trevor's favorite) has the full length slide on the 15+1 frame. The grip size is the same, but the sight radius is longer and the slide is longer--why? Well, most folks will tell you that the hardest part of the gun to conceal is the butt, so the longer the grip is the more it will print under your clothing. So, we added that longer slide to make the gun more shootable. The MR920L shoots like a full size and carries like a compact.
Then we have the DR920, which is the full size handgun.
Now let's talk about slides. When it comes to slides, we have basically three types of slides that go on any of the frame sizes, whether it's MR or DR; the Combat, the Combat Optic, and the Elite. The internals of the pistols are the same between all three slide models.
We have the Combat slide. The base Combat slide just has iron sights, regular dovetail sights with a nightsight front. The Combat Optic is that same slide that also has our proprietary optic cut. The Combat slide does not feature any window cuts. It does have front and rear directional serrations, but no topside serrations and no window cuts.
Next we have our Elite slide--all Elite slides feature our optic cut, which fits most optics on the market with ultra long and ultra strong screws. The Elite slide features the front and rear directional serrations as well as topside directional serrations and a weight optimizing window cut.

Technical Tuesdays are back!? Maybe you can explain how adding a compensator may affect the reliability and what springs you would recommend. So many of us have threaded barrels on our models.
I got a dark MR920L with the 5" bronze threaded barrel. Now I just need the flush barrel and one of those gorgeous fde DR920s.
Own a MR920 Combat absolutely love it couldn't ask for a better carry pistol. I'm glad I found this company.

Only improvement ( for me) would be a larger grip. Compact gun w full size grips are much better in my opinion.

I actually just bought a mr920 without doing any research, i was looking to buy a glock 17. The associate at the gun store sold me on the specs and shadow systems as a company. After shooting and more looking at these videos I'm so glad I bought this firearm. And it was on sale for 650$!! I didn't realize they normally start at 799$
Got a small collection of Shadow Systems - acquired over time - and we love every and each of them - DR, MR, Elite, Threaded barrels… we want to add compensators and need some guidance. Like the ZEV. Thoughts? What about recoil spring? 13, 15 pounds? Video with options would be a great way to start the year. Thanks for your consideration.

Awesome video. I've never been a big Glock guy. My gun store had a big sale on your firearms. I ended up getting an mr920 combat with an optics cut and I'm blown away by how nice this thing shoots. I already bought a holster and planning on carrying it over my p320.

CR920 is better than a 26. Much slimmer and 10+1,13+1, night sights.

I need a tech Tuesday on barrels.
I see that the threaded barrel is 5 inches (I believe) for the compact.
I saw they have other barrels and read some thing like 106 mm to be Canada compliant. But that comes out to be like 4 1/4.
I was just trying to figure out if I wanted to get a second barrel in the titanium coating, how much stick out when I get between a canada barrel, vs a regular, and then vs the threaded?

Would absolutely love the duty model in .45 acp
The MR920 Elite is my daily carry and it is paired with a Holosun 507c X2 and a Stream Light TLR-7 with matching iwb holster and a Taran Tactical +5 base pad on a Glock 15 round magazine. Favorite handgun I've owned and I'm definitely accurate enough with it to trust my life with it as well. I want a DR model next. I recommend Shadow Systems over a Glock every chance I get.
How can I get a set up like this. I'm a 21 year old firefighter trying to make a living with my fiance and want home and edc protection. I'm lost on how to get the elite and a set up similar to yours! Any help would be appreciated sir!
@@fatalis_swmg one thing you should keep in mind is that the company Shadow Systems will replace your gun in the chance you use it for self defense and it’s taken under investigation. Literally sold all of my hand guns and bought from them just because of this alone - not to mention it’s better than standard Glocks for sure.

Well, ok fine. I had to get one, the DR920. Buddy, this is even better than I thought it would be!!! It fits my hands PERFECTLY!!! It feel so good in my hands, it's hard to describe. And then I've been bidding on gunbroker, low bids for a couple months now, and found one for $ a good price!!! SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I already have the MR920, but my damn hands are so big that the grip ends in the middle of my ring finger. Freaking banana hands, lol. I really think I like this pistol, a lot.

I have a DR920P elite and a MR920 elite. neither one has failed from the first shot and I have shot both over 500 times. My only problem is the trigger. I wish you would have put some time in on that issue. Is there any upgrades? Poor quality on the trigger. Customer service is great. If you have an issue with anything they will respectfully take care of you.
Love mine, except the finish is crap. I have the mr920 elite in bronze. My bad for going with the cerakote less that 3 months old and it's chipping off. Not wear but just coming off. Other than that love it.

Ok, I’m clear on MR vs DR, but where does XR and CR fall in?
I was actually looking at getting a long slide for my Glock 19 and then I saw the MR918 . How long before they are available as sold out everywhere?
Also, I am a 357Sig fan and surprised it was mentioned in the video. I want one but unsure of the viability of that caliber in today's market.
The MR918 has been discontinued in favor of the newer MR920. If you’re looking for a long slide, you’ll want to shop for the MR920L, which is available at dealers and distributors nationwide.
Shadow Systems should come out with MR10 and DR10 models in the 10mm caliber!
For the combat Mr920, if you want to put optics on it, I’m assuming you need to go get it cut and the optic plate? Once that’s done, and you put a red dot on, will the iron sights line up with the red dot?
No it comes pre cut. and yes the dot co witnesses
You have a XR920 what does the XR stand for?
Anyone changed out their front sight? I changed mine to a Dawson Precision because I prefer a thinner front sight. I had to shave the base that enters the slide down on the sides because the sight hovers above the slide. It still actually does but slightly now.
Ameriglo fiber optic front sight posts do the same thing. Instead of shaving down the plug, I just tapped it in with a rubber hammer. It's flush. Ameriglo helped me match it with an appropriate height far sight and now gtg.
@@jpdesimone yes tapping would be the obvious solution. Not so simple. My front sight hole is probably out of spec.
What best holster to get 920 Elite
Just got my first mr920 combat optic. At what round count should I start my first maintenance cycle/replacing parts. And what parts ? This is my first handgun I am actually putting rounds downrange regularly and consistently training with.
Hi Logan. The only component on the firearm that has a maintenance schedule is the recoil spring which we recommend replacing at 5,000 rounds. The spring can be removed from the guide rod and simply replaced instead of having to buy a new entire assembly. Other components are "as needed" but breakages are infrequent. If you dry fire a ton (like hundreds of thousands of times a day) you might want to have an extra firing pin (unless you use a snap cap when dry firing). Other than that, part replacements are rare. Can my combat slide be cut for an optic and have weight reducing window cuts in the front of the slide( like the elite) without making any other changes? Will it still cycle like it's supposed to with the reduced weight of the slide? Do I need a different buffer spring?
You might as well just get the elite at that point.
@@brandonwilliamsphotography6826 elite wasn't available when I purchased my combat. So I want to make changes that I like as time goes on, but I've heard of people changing slides or barrels and having problems.

I’m looking at MR920 elite. That way I’ll have the option to carry it if I don’t wanna take my hellcat that day, and I’ll have the option to put a sight on it (I’ve never had a pistol w a sight on it)

Why not mr for micro, cr compact, fr for full sized?
Can a glock 23 or 22 slide go on the frame? Being glock grips are multi roll different slide as per model
Cody, theoretically, a Glock 23 slide would fit on the MR series frame. However, we can't guarantee function with other company's parts. The full size G22 is not compatible with the full size DR frame. Trevor
My dr920 has a very noisy recoil spring and was wondering if im the only one experiencing this? And trying to find something to remedy it if anyone knows. Thanks
Our decision to include a high quality stainless steel guiderod means more metal on metal contact. A few drops of oil will help and it will quiet down as it wears in.

DR is like a Glock 17 (or Glock 19X) while the MR Elite WPS is like the Glock 19. You can find the Glock 17/19 in any gun range/store to try it out in person.

Where does someone get the war poet version
I've called 4 times only to be on hold and eventually get the answering machine, left 4 messages about my mr920 elite. Been trying to get help with it for a month now. The slide is stuck on the gun and won't come off. I can't move it forward or backward and the trigger is forward. I went to take the slide off and it got stuck part way through and won't budge now. Trigger forward so I can't move the slide back. This has happened a lot, the recoil spring/rod get loose and jam up the gun so it won't come apart. The other times this happened I was able to fix it because the trigger wasn't forward. This time the trigger is forward and there's nothing I can do about it now. Every single time I call I get put on hold and then after a few minutes it sends me to answering machine where I've left many messages.
EDIT: The CS rep got back to me and he helped me fix the gun! They're now sending me upgraded parts to help prevent my issue from occurring. Very relieved to have my gun back and the part upgrades are awesome! Thank you Shadow Systems!

Yes, it should fit and work, however we cannot guarantee function with non-Shadow parts.

So, the easiest way to sum it up even though you refuse say the G-word.
MR920 = Glock 19 size
DR920 = Glock 17 size
I wish you would do a "45"/"19X" size frame/slide combination. That would be my jam. Love the guns though.

Hi SDW, the grip angle is adjustable using our backstrap system. You can match Glock's "hump" or use one of the more vertical grip options. Trevor
