Hi Randi. You did a superb job in helping us newbies through how to move alcohol inks. I started using alcohol inks about a year ago and couldn’t find anything close to this valuable video on how to work and move the inks. I too spent countless hours on RUclips and still couldn’t make my projects look beautiful. You have inspired me to try again with your wonderful tutorial! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!🙏
I'm new to this, made some disasters, bought a couple of tools that were not useful, a heat gun with no variable settings that is really hot & nothing else & air brush combo with attachments that works exactly the same way as the little black puffer, one puff at a time. So apparently, I've done everything you have just cautioned against.☺ I'm not upset about my useless purchases because now at least, after watching your video, I can have a do-over with the correct supplies & I may even be able to create something because of the techniques demonstrated in your video. Why, I wonder, in over 2 years of saving pins & watching videos did I not ever see anyone explaining & showing exactly how to move the ink. That's why I kept getting fingers. It's funny that sometimes it's the simple things that are the most important that are overlooked. I can't thank you enough for your video & I hope you continue because I can't be the only person who appreciates clear information. You did a wonderful job & yes your hair looks pretty.🥰
Thank you very much ❤️❤️ the whole reason I started making tutorials was because I wished when I was new at ink, I a had found someone who would explain everything in details…. all the tiny little things that makes such a difference when painting with ink. I’m sooo glad you found the video helpful
Randi thank you so much for that demonstration. There are so many videos I have watched but do not get into explanations like you said earlier. I am new, and in awe of the alcohol inks, I want to learn more, no matter how small the info.
You are welcome 🙏 more videos coming soon. Trying to think of the things I needed to learn when I was new - so much information when it comes to ink.... 😊
You did great! 👏 I so want to try this. When I was a child (I'm 53 now) I was shy and thought I had to be perfect. I've always enjoyed the creative process, I cook, bake and for the past 6 years I've self taught myself to make jewelry. I love now we have RUclips for those that are shy and don't thrive in a traditional classroom setting. Thank you for sharing your experience especially with those who don't have a clue and need a clue! Lol 🙂
Thank you very much 🙏☺️ I have also been a creative person since childhood and also never thrived in the traditional classroom setting. I am self taught in both alcohol ink and acrylics ( I paint trees 🌳 ) and I absolutely love doing these videos. So glad you liked it and hope you have fun if you try out inks 😄🙋🏻♀️
Thank you Randi!!! I am such a newbie and get so frustrated watching everyones beautiful artwork, as I can’t figure out how it’s done. I mostly have trouble with the heat...I never know when to use cool and when to use heat. It seems when I use cool, I get little bloopy edges. I’ve read that is when the humidity is too high, so I use some heat and then if I’m not using Nara paper, the paper will buckle...it’s a mystery to me! But I do keep trying, as I love this medium. By the way, you did GREAT! And THANK YOU for addressing the simple, basic things that can help us to create! Absolutely love your videos!
Thank you very much - it was actually fun sitting in front of the camera... I might do it again 😊 the air and heat is tricky... and humidity does not work well with ink. You just need to keep trying and figure out how much heat you’re paper can handle - sometimes it’s just a small adjustment, maybe a small cheap hairdryer that’s a bit less warm then what you are using now ....
Randi, I think you are wonderful! I love your videos and the art you create. Thank you for this explanation of heat and air - it was very helpful to me.
I would like some tips and advice on how much and how to apply iso to your work surface to get particular effects. I’ve had issues with bottles leaking iso or droplets being too big or splattering, etc.
Thank you Randi for taking the time to share your knowledge, always so informative. I’m so pleased I’m not the only one that has those accidental ‘rude’ moments!!
Thank you for a very informative video. I am very new and feeling very discouraged with the equipment I have acquired to date because I have no idea what I am doing. You were great. I hope you will continue to help us newbies with this fabulous art form. Anything you care to pass on will be watched with passion.
You are welcome 🙏 please don’t feel discouraged- ink is tricky when you are new- not as easy as it looks. I felt the same as you when I first started.... I will definitely keep making videos 😄
I am new to alcohol ink art and I am sooo glad I found your channel! Thank you for this video! There really seems to be so few true beginner videos out there, and I was feeling a little frustrated trying to find answers to my questions. Thank you!
So so helpful. Ive had quite a time trying to figure out what to use. My current heat gun is a bit hot but good for drying yet the cool air hairdryers are a bit pricey now in the US. I'm into more abstract pieces so the little puffer is now on order! Thank You!
Thank you sooo much, I'm pretty much about to give up on inks, I can't seem to get anything to look good. Please do more beginners stuff, I really need help with composition and would really love to do those roses that other people do. I'll be looking out for more from you. 🦋
Thank you for the video. It is absolutely helpful to me - a beginner at alcohol ink painting. I was about to buy a heat gun without knowing it well and this video saved me 😅 I'm gonna order the Remington one because that seems better for my purpose 😊
Thank you Randi! You are extremely helpful with your videos. I am an old hairdresser and air flow direction is the most important part of styling hair. The amount of moisture is very important as well. Like with hair styling, the amount of ink and iso combined with air flow direction is key! Funny how they’re both related.
Also maybe a sock on end of the dryer can control speed of air. There’s a product called a Hot Sock, a diffuser, used on a hair dryer for curly hair to control air flow so doesn’t blow curls too much gives better control. It’s literally a heat proof material sock. I’ll have to try it and let you know :)
Thanks Randi! I can't tell you how happy I am that you are doing some beginning techniques! When I first started it looked so easy... But all I saw was how bad mine were in comparison. It can be pretty intimidating at times. Your channel is going to be wonderful for the newbies... When I think of all the time and money I spent trying to figure it out on my own. You did a wonderful job! I subscribed! Andi
Thank you very much 🙏 first thing I learned when I started was that it is definitely NOT as easy as it looks. But some little tips and tricks can help a lot. Will make more beginner tutorials for sure 😊
Thank you so much for this video!!! This is a great explanation of the basics of using air. I'm a watercolorist, and recently bought a set of alcohol inks. I've been stuck for how to start with them. There are tons of beginner's videos and techniques videos for watercolor, there aren't so many for alcohol inks. This video is excellent, and is exactly what I need to get started. I really appreciate it! Also want to say "Yes! Your hair is very pretty!!!" I bet it is from all your practice with the blow dryers! LOL 😁
My issue is with how to apply and how much iso to use. I got a bottle similar to yours from the Dick Blick art store here in USA but it tends to leak at where the top screws onto bottle. I’ve used smaller needle tip bottles but it seems the bottle diameter doesn’t allow me to get needle tip as cost to the surface as the narrower bottles like yours. Also it seems the droplets of iso are too big when I’m trying to make slender flower petals. So advice and tips on iso usage would be helpful.
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! I finally understand why I only got weird "fingers" so far and how to use my dryer properly. I subscribed and will definitely watch all your videos becaus you explain the process so well. When I get rid of my mistakes working with alcohol ink will surely become even more fun!
Hi Randi, this was very helpful! Would you consider doing a video showing us how to do petals with each of the different tools by adding them to a painting without completely wrecking the other petals/leaves already done?
Thank you for doing this video, Randi...it was extremely helpful! I appreciate you sharing the tips and tricks with us that you had to learn on your own when you first started out. I thought you did wonderfully for your first time on camera and think you should feel very confident! And yes, your hair looks pretty!!!!
You are very very welcome 🙏 and thank you 😊 it actually wasn’t as scary as I thought being in front of the camera 🎥 might do it again. (The “pretty” hair is getting a haircut tomorrow 😃 )
Thanks for a really informative video Randi! I’m so happy I found your channel. You look great, please keep sharing your artwork and hints & tips. Much love Ann ❤️🏴❤️

Hello Randi Firstly how lovely meeting you, I love your videos so now we see the face behind the creations. This video and the one you did demonstrating the Nara paper are excellent for the new artist so thank you. One thing I would like more information on is the air brush. I can see how you use it but it’s the power I don’t understand. There are many on the market but which one to buy, does it matter? I’ve seen some used for cake decorating and wondered if they would be appropriate. Thank you again for your channel. Cheryl from Australia
Hi Cheryl 🙋♀️ thank you very much. I currently don’t have one and haven’t used one for a while. My old one broke. When I get a new one I will definitely do a video on it
What do you think of airbrushing? OMG you are just amazing. Couldn't do anything worth saving if it wasn't for you. You have no idea how helpful you really are. Can't say enough. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much, makes me so happy to hear you find it all useful 🙏🙏 that’s the whole reason I make these videos ❤️ I don’t actually use an airbrush…. Never really felt a need for it, but if I do one day I definitely do a video
You’re welcome 😊 I’ve had several requests about varnish, so I will definitely talk about that in another video. Maybe a bit about resin, although I’m not exactly an expert on that 😄
Hi! I just found your channel and really enjoyed this video. I'm new to alcohol ink and always looking for tutorials. You did a fine job, I subscribed and I will be back! Take care!!
You look great and you did fantastic on camera! I'm totally new to this I do acrylic pouring but I'm interested in the inks it's just so beautiful and a lot less messy! I have all my supplies but I just subscribed to your channel which is really great! I would really like to see a video on where beginners should start and are there learning exercises to practice lol! Thank you so much!
Thank you very much 😀🙏 I used to do acrylic pouring too, fun but messy - tried ink and haven’t done the acrylic pouring since 😊 Good idea for video, thanks 🙏
Thank you so much. I really enjoy your videos. You have a gift of explaining, teaching, sharing what you do as a successful alcohol ink artist. I am also curious about your work area and storage of supplies where you are working. I end up blowing things around half of the time.🤪
Hey ! Thanks for response us, such a great video ☺️ i have a question, do you have alternative of Krylon Kamar varnish for sealing alcohol ink art please?
Thanks for the video! I have two questions: where can I buy the paper you recommend from Nara. I'm from Spain and Amazon only has it in circular format. I would like you to talk about how to frame the pictures or how to glue them to wooden boards without wrinkling the paper. I have seen some artists who do it but I don't know what materials to use, or how to do it....
You’re welcome 🙏 I can definitely talk about framing, maybe a bit about glue 👍 You can buy Nara paper directly from Nara, pretty sure they ship worldwide. (From India)
Thank you so much, this was very helpful! Do the inks matter? I bought Resin Alcohol Ink because I got 18 colors and they were cheaper than Piñata or Holt brands. I just tried for the first time today using a puffer and hair dryer. All 3 turned out ok, with practice and redoing some places. Wanted to try it out before I invested in expensive ink, but wanted to know the difference. I also only had a pipette because my pin bottles have not arrived yet.
You are very welcome 🙏 I do believe there is a difference, but I’ve never tried resin inks on paper..... Pipette works fine, pin bottles are easy to control. About prices, the more expensive inks are usually better quality. If you do start buying, just get a few different colors to begin with, and mix them yourself to create new colors.
Thanks for your videos. I would like to know what are you using for blending solution. I find the branded blending solutions are SO expensive and go very quickly. Do you u just use 99% isopropyl alcohol in your videos?
If you check out my channel, I have videos on roses and ripples. There are some links for applicators etc in the description below this video ruclips.net/video/auwa98Z5rRw/видео.html
Hi Randi, thanks a lot for this video. I mostly use a hair dryer, but also love the effect you can get with a heat gun, only, the heat... So, my question is, do you know the minimum temperature of your heat gun??
Hi Randi, I’ve been dabbling in acrylic fluid art but would love to try alcohol ink. I love the delicacy of it. Do you ever work on a canvas? Thank you for your videos 👍🏻
Well, you have to make sure it’s not to hot (mine has different levels) and then not get it to close to the paper 😉 I rarely use mine anymore - like my hairdryer better
Hi Melissa for regular canvas I use a latex primer - many use Kilz2. Might work for canvas boards. All my videos so far are with alcohol ink, but I also use acrylic ink. It’s a bit more tricky to mix with alcohol because it’s water based, but it can be done. I might make a video on acrylic inks soon. 🤗
Sorry forgot to add this too…..it would be nice to know how to store the inks. I know I had a lot of trouble sticking the push pin into the new bottles when I started. Ink splattered everywhere when I removed them 🤣 Learned to do it over paper towels and use gloves. I have blue fingers and nails on a few digits! 🤦♀️
@@randihart5731 Oh, I thought Resin was just the name brand because they are alcohol inks. Ugggg, this is so hard when there are too many to choose from on Amazon 🙄
@@kathryncurry2662 don’t worry, you are definitely not the first one to think that. Yes to many choices. Some of my favorites are Copic, Ranger and piñata
@@randihart5731 Maybe that could be a video idea, what inks to use or not use! Lol. Do you have a suggestion for a particular starter pack that would be good for us newbies in those your 3 favorite brands?

I have all my supplies but I just subscribed to your channel which is really great! I would really like to see a video on where beginners should start and are there learning exercises to practice lol! Thank you so much!
Thank you very much 😀🙏 I used to do acrylic pouring too, fun but messy - tried ink and haven’t done the acrylic pouring since 😊
Good idea for video, thanks 🙏
You’re so cute! When you said it might have to go to heaven, I hope not 🥺 thank you for the helpful video!
Thank you and you’re welcome 😉
(No heaven, I still have it 😀 )
I would also like to know how to create those lines that sometimes appear in a more controlled way.
Lines, I will do that 😄
You did very good. 👍🥰
Thank you ☺️ ☺️🥰
I learned a lot
Glad to hear it ☺️
Thank you for this helpful vid. I'll give my hair blower a try first. I like saving $ where I can. p.s. you have a nice smile
You’re welcome and good idea $$ and, thank you 😁😁
Thank you so much. I really enjoy your videos. You have a gift of explaining, teaching, sharing what you do as a successful alcohol ink artist.
I am also curious about your work area and storage of supplies where you are working. I end up blowing things around half of the time.🤪
Thank you so very much 🙏🙏 you are very kind. I might show my little work studio in a video - should probably clean up first 🤣🤣🙊
Hey ! Thanks for response us, such a great video ☺️ i have a question, do you have alternative of Krylon Kamar varnish for sealing alcohol ink art please?
Thank you 🙏 I use Molotow varnish, really good. I’ll show it in another video 👍
@@randihart5731 you welcome ! Ohh that will be great, thank you🥰
Randi, thanks heaps from a beginner & love your videos👌
Thank you very much 🙏
Hi I would love if you can make a video with making lines with the inks thank you 😘
Hi 🙋🏻♀️ I can definitely do that 😄
bonne demo merci
You’re welcome ☺️
Thanks for the video! I have two questions: where can I buy the paper you recommend from Nara. I'm from Spain and Amazon only has it in circular format. I would like you to talk about how to frame the pictures or how to glue them to wooden boards without wrinkling the paper. I have seen some artists who do it but I don't know what materials to use, or how to do it....
You’re welcome 🙏 I can definitely talk about framing, maybe a bit about glue 👍
You can buy Nara paper directly from Nara, pretty sure they ship worldwide.
You’re welcome 😉 i only use isopropyl alcohol.! And yes blending solution is insanely expensive.......
awesome video!!! so informative!! thank you so much for sharing tips and tricks!
You are very welcome 🤗
How to make roses reeple and where to buy applicators and round paper and frame
If you check out my channel, I have videos on roses and ripples.
There are some links for applicators etc in the description below this video ruclips.net/video/auwa98Z5rRw/видео.html
Hi Randi, thanks a lot for this video. I mostly use a hair dryer, but also love the effect you can get with a heat gun, only, the heat... So, my question is, do you know the minimum temperature of your heat gun??
You’re welcome 😉 uhhh I’m actually not sure.... I’m using my heat gun less these days, feel like I can do most things just as good with a hairdryer
@@randihart5731 thank you so much Randi. Your work really is so lovely, always enjoy watching your video’s 🤗
@@markolk1 thank you so much 😊
Hi Randi, I’ve been dabbling in acrylic fluid art but would love to try alcohol ink. I love the delicacy of it. Do you ever work on a canvas? Thank you for your videos 👍🏻
Hi 👋 I do fluid acrylic too sometimes, it’s fun. Yes I work on canvas, got a video right here ruclips.net/video/cngvw50KFNA/видео.html
How does one work with the heat gun and not have the paper start to warp?
Well, you have to make sure it’s not to hot (mine has different levels) and then not get it to close to the paper 😉
I rarely use mine anymore - like my hairdryer better
Det var super 😊
Tusind mange tak 🙏
Do you paint on canvas and do you do a safety video??
Yes I paint on canvas, here’s a video ruclips.net/video/y06iosoy_Lg/видео.html. I don’t have a safety video, maybe I’ll make one 😊
Hi Randi
How do you prep a canvas board for alcohol ink?
Do you use alcohol ink or acrylic ink? What is the difference?
Thanks
Melissa
Hi Melissa for regular canvas I use a latex primer - many use Kilz2. Might work for canvas boards.
All my videos so far are with alcohol ink, but I also use acrylic ink. It’s a bit more tricky to mix with alcohol because it’s water based, but it can be done. I might make a video on acrylic inks soon. 🤗
Is a wow embossing gun too hot to use to move alchohol inks? Pamela
I haven’t tried it but I think it might be a bit to hot…. Randi 😊
I tend to agree …. I wouldn’t want to ignite the isop alchohol you add to the inks…..but I’m afraid to find out….
Maybe just use your hairdryer…. ☺️
Ohh no 🤣🙈 that is because it’s the resin inks. Regular ink bottles don’t do that.
@@randihart5731 At least they still worked! I came away with 2 out of the 3 I tried as successes!
@@randihart5731 Maybe that could be a video idea, what inks to use or not use! Lol. Do you have a suggestion for a particular starter pack that would be good for us newbies in those your 3 favorite brands?
May I ask the wind speed and temperature of your hair dryer?
I really have no idea 🤷🏼♀️ very sorry
@@randihart5731 Haha~ it's okay~~
😬🤣👍
