    Here is a very simple video to show you how to flush your Yamaha outboard after using it in saltwater or a sandy condition. This should be done every time you use your boat in a saltwater environment. You can use this on Honda, Suzuki, Mercury and Evinrude outboards as well.
    In this updated video I will explain with a 100% accuracy on using the top flush ports on a Yamaha and Mercury outboard flushing. How to use two hose and "RUN" your engine to get a perfect engine flush. This is the "NUMBER ONE way to flush a outboard" that is used in saltwater.

    Hi, when my dinghy is in the water can I flush with ear muffs and/or the top port while the leg is in the fully up position. Also should I use salt away through both ports. ?

    • @captaindrewcavanaugh
      @captaindrewcavanaugh  9 месяцев назад +1

      I am not sure. I would try to keep it lowered. Salt away is more for tackle and gear. Not to be used as a flush.

    Good video man thank you I’ve got a 2013 115 four stroke Yamaha I go out in Apalachee Bay pretty often all I’ve ever done is connect the hose to the flushing adapter and let it run for 15 or 20 minutes am I not doing something? Should I also use the earmuffs?

    • @captaindrewcavanaugh
      @captaindrewcavanaugh  Год назад

      So you can do both at the same time of one at a time. Doing the earmuffs opens the thermostat.

    • @markuswilmes3694
      @markuswilmes3694 3 месяца назад

      If your engine is warm don’t bother with the earmuffs if cold use them with engine running too give time for thermo to open

  • @todd8672
    @todd8672 5 лет назад +9

    Yamaha does claim running the engine with only the top water connection can harm the water pump. Using both looks to be fine. If only one hose, you do recommend only "running" the engine with the muffs on, correct ?

    • @captaindrewcavanaugh
      @captaindrewcavanaugh  5 лет назад +5

      You are correct. If using just one hose do teh muffs. However you can do both, just one at a time.

    • @captaindrewcavanaugh

      No because the thermostat needs to be hot to open. That is why i run the engine.

      @@captaindrewcavanaugh why would you want to flush on the suction side bottom hose and into the discharge line from the pump at the same time? If you want the thermostat to open use the muffs into the suction of the pump.

    If just using only the muffs, how long after the motor is started does it take for water to come out the pee hole? How many seconds or minutes?

      A few seconds, no longer than a minute for sure.

      Great video ! Have the same question, as I just used the muffs only and there was no water at all through the pee hole after about 10 seconds or so. Is it still normal ?
      The other thing I’ve noticed that the amount of water or it’s flow that being dispensed near the intake inlets does not change after the engine is started. Does it mean that it could be something wrong with the impeller or the water pump itself ?
      Thank you !!

    • @blaster-zy7xx
      @blaster-zy7xx 3 года назад

      It depends on the amount of pressure and flow of the water. If low, it takes longer for water to come out the pee port since the entire engine must fill up before the uppermost port expels water. You should see it pee after about a minute max. AND you should obviously see it pee whenever it is running in the water. I always notice that it is peeing while still in the water before I shut it down for this exact question.

    but why use both at the same time? wouldn't the muffs be enough? if were trying to run it to open the thermostats, wouldn't less cooling water flow be better? quicker to temp, longer time flushing all connective passageways?.... lol next time you replace the impeller, hook up the hose. if forceful water shoots down the pressure tube, id say you probably have enough lubricating water to run the engine. we know plenty of people are running their engines and getting away with it. maybe there is enough getting down that tube...

    • @captaindrewcavanaugh
      @captaindrewcavanaugh  3 года назад +1

      Just puts more water in there one, two if you use just the port you cannot run the engine to open the thermostat.
