    My $.02
    I live on the TX Gulf Coast and fish year round. I swear b4 I do anything else after arriving home I hook up the FLUSH-MUFFS, turn on the water and start the motor. Newer outboards have a port to bypass the Muffs... DON'T DO IT.!
    I run the flush for about 4mins then wash it down. My Evinrude is a 2007 Etec 115hp and its serviced every January. God bless and as always "Tight Lines and Full Limits To Ya" (Good subject, thanks for sharing.)

    In the early 1990 s the local marine mechanic told me that as long as I was using my 9.9 Yamaha kicker motor once a week or more not to worry about flushing with fresh water.The impeller would not dry out in those circumstances. The boat I have now does not stay in the water and I do flush it unless going out again in a few days. A lot of newer outboards have freshwater fitting for flushing at the dock but often they are to be used with engine not running.Most I.O. (sterndrives ) around here have heat exchanger closed water cooling where you have fresh water and salt water circulating thru a heat exchangerin separate copper tubes. CHEERS from Wetcoast Canada!

      I run my Yamaha on the flush port all the time and have never burned an impeller. Just don’t rev the motor. If idling, it’s fine and use a large hose, 3/4” to make sure you have enough water flow.

    As I mentioned in my first comment on your gas mixing video, just bout my first boat 88 ranger v393. I plan on taking it out for my first time, it's a two stroke and I wanted to save myself some embarrassment at the dock, so I was thinking about trying / learning to start my boat in my yard tomorrow, once again your video didn't disappoint

    I’m a salt water boater and keep my boat a a marina. I use my muffs almost every time I come in. I’m on the St. John’s river not far from the Atlantic Ocean. Many of the folks in my marina do not flush their engines. But a good number do.

    Hi there, I am 100% saltwater and you need to run fresh water to rinse out the salt every timer you go out. I had mine at several marinas and normally they are suppose to rinse them for you after every time you bring it back in. Since I have mine on a lift now, every time I rinse.

    Some have a new water pump on our inboard mercruiser. When running the muffs on land, there's some water dripping below the pump if the hose is up too high. Is this normal??

    So on my engine above towards the top or midway of the engine there’s another unscrewable outlet that I can attach a hose to, can that also be used to run a boat, or is that just strictly to flush?

    You ever get a boatload (no pun intended) of tools from a buddy and find that one odd tool you have no idea what it is?
    Yeah, that just happened. I had no idea what a boat muff motor cleaner thingy was until today. Now I know!
    Problem is... I don't have a boat, but now I have a muff. I am blessed! Now I just need a boat.

    Just to share a caution that is flagged in my Mariner 50HP owner's manual: Do not have the water flow too high (they suggest opening the tap/faucet to no more than half. Otherwise, to much pressure will damage seals in the engine.
    If you think about it, the motor can only take as much water as the tell-tale can flow, so not much.

    • @WayneTheBoatGuy

      Something might be clogging the passages. Sometimes pieces of the old impeller can block the flow.

    Salt water only..go with my cuzzin once a week for around 5 months and used the muffs once..we always at full throttle right before we get in for around 20-30 seconds..think the one time we didn't fly it in is when he used the muffs..🤷‍♂️

  • @ericneering6357

    That’s because you’re improperly installing them they go the other way that way when you turn the proper on the hose don’t get stuck in the prop

    Motor ran perfectly on the water all day today with a perfect tell tail even at idle. But upon applying my earmuffs for a flush I had no tell tell. Any idea?

    • @WayneTheBoatGuy
      @WayneTheBoatGuy  2 года назад

      I've heard of that happening. Sometimes the muffs don't push enough water through for some motors. Some people only get water out of the tell-tale when submerged in water.

  • @mikeyshelton6771

    how long can you run an engine on water muffs?

    • @WayneTheBoatGuy
      @WayneTheBoatGuy  2 года назад

      It depends on whether you're getting a good seal where they mount providing a good flow. If you rev the engine, sometimes a hose will not provide enough water, so keep that in mind.

  • @sailboatbob3969

    I'd like to suggest that you put the muffs on from the front of the drive. this way if you put it into gear you're not going to hit it with the prop
