I got a Havanese 3 months ago. I researched the breed 6 months. I am so happy with my choice. I love my baby girl. She learned to fetch at 3 months and now plays catch with me. Very easy to train.
We have an 11 year old Havanese. He is one of the best things that ever happened to us. He is full of love and gives us great joy everyday. If you're interested in getting a dog, consider a Havanese. But if you get one, plan on a few things. Do not plan on raising your voice, they are very sensitive. Understand that they call these dogs "velcro dogs" because they will want to touch you every chance they get. They'll sit on your foot or lean on you etc.. Just anything to touch you. They will probably fall in love with you and in short order, that love will pull you in and you will suddenly realize that you love them too. They are easy to train and your discipline should be administered gently.
My Havanese will be five come August. We are in the woods daily hunting for the chipmunks. I couldn’t imagine being without him. He knows what I say to him most of the time. He knows when I’m gong to work when I put on the orange shirt. He runs ahead going into the woods but comes back to see if I’m coming. I tell him I’m coming and he will go further and repeat. He is the sweetest dog. I’m 61 and he makes life worth living.
Havanese are the best! I just lost my beloved Sam, and he lived 16 years + 7 months. I love this breed! Intelligent, very loving, and playful as well as lovable. I will never have any other breeds than this beautiful breed.
I have a Havanese. She's the best. So smart and expressive. She communicates what she wants. She does require a lot of attention and is glued to me. But i love her. She doesn't bark unless someone is at the door or the garage opens. I do appreciate her bark since I live alone. She's also very funny and silly super playful. She's 3 and the best Desicion I ever made!
My Havanese is my first small dog. I am completely smitten, she is the perfect companion. As far as the potty training goes, maybe a bit more challenging than larger dogs, but she eventually got it. Now she goes to the door and rings the bells every time. I am completely opposed to ‘pee pads’, it just teaches them to use your home as a toilet.
My Havanese is the best dog Ive ever had. He is very smart and knows many words. He is very good at communicating what he wants to me. He is a very picky eater though. Count on buying a top quality food, or cooking fresh home cooked meals (canine recipes of course) for these babies. No grocery store kibble. Take whats said here about grooming and multiply, you just will not get it until you live with a Havanese. My dog will let me know he wants his bangs cut by shoving them back with his paw and he frequently wants his face washed with a wet cloth. Overall, this video is right on target with what to expect from your Havanese breed.
The Havanese is pretty much the bigger and more durable version of the Maltese with more color options. I own a Havanese right now, and all he does is snooze around and play with his toys. He doesn't bug me unless his water bowl is empty or if he has to use the washroom. He could walk as far as 10 km'.
While I'm sure maltese are lovely dogs also, I love my havanese! I've had many dogs, but havanese are now my hands-down favorite breed. I highly recommend!

@@juliefang5670 HI Julie! I am so sorry for your loss. We lost one about 4 years ago and boy it is a hard thing to deal with. No I don’t breed Maltese but I know 2 lovely ladies that do. They are in the Phoenix area but will deliver a puppy (NO SHIPPING) almost anywhere. They even have show lines. Our girl, who came from them, is the daughter of 2 winning show dogs. Their dogs have even been on the Animal Planet as an example of the Maltese breed. They run about $3,000 for a female and males are a little less. They have a waiting list for puppies but these 2 ladies are well worth waiting on. All puppies are born and raised in a family home and are potty trained to a pad by 8 weeks. My Maltese is wonderful - I sing a song to her every morning when we wake up, and she sings along with me. She's my first Maltese, so it took awhile before I realized how very sweet and dedicated she really is. She's a good little hiker, too. Something I would not have expected, but there it is. You will hear "sensitive" a lot when referring to a Havaneese. I've never loved a dog more than mine that passed away at age 13 recently. She was a rescue so I thought her being scared of fireworks, loud noises, rowdy children was due to this but now I realize it is specific to this breed. But even though you must be careful of those things this is the quality which makes them so human like. My Chica was an excellent communicator. She wasn't a barker but she licked her lips when she was hungry, she scratched at a faucet if she wanted water and she would sit in front of the door and look back at me if she wanted out. She also knew exactly how I was feeling. If I wasn't feeling well she would never ask for anything but just sit protectively next to me. She also wasn't the dog that was licking and jumping and constantly in your lap. She was reserved except at play time when she'd bring you a ball to play fetch. Please consider, as the video says, your ability to physically be near them and willingness to be sensitive to their tendency to be scared by rowdy children and noise before taking on the responsibility of being their parent.
@@susandunlop4490 All dogs bark in certain situations. The amount is relative, some people react to the slightest noise some are more relaxed. Our dog barks at dogs she doesn't like also at people who she thinks act suspicious. She mostly barks at home to protect house and garden when she hears sounds she thinks don't belong. Also it is a question of training. You can certainly train a dog not to bark. I don't think Maltese are barking more than other dogs. But I do think smaller dogs bark more than bigger dogs. Hello First time I will have Havanese-Maltese male !! I will bring home next week. He was born on Oct.22.2020. He’s still in the shop. I saw him Jan.13.2021. And visited him on Jan.21.2021. He seems very quite. Is it normal. ? I asked them they said he’s great. My boy will see vet this week. Probably I ‘ll bring him forever home. I’m so exited. I can not wait.
I love my Havanese pup. She is nearly 6 months old and is such a sassy, funny, loving puppy. Would not trade her for the world. We have always had Rescue dogs but with covid, nearly all dogs were adopted early on. When our Lhasa rescue died in December, my heart was broken. Winter, our Havanese helps us to mend and is a companion for our other rescue dog, Pepper. LOVE her.
I have a Maltese since she was 2 months. She is now 12 1/2yrs. Highly intelligent and expressive love to listen to ole school hits from the 80s especially when I sing outloud, music from that time is more soothing to the ears.
We have had both. Our Havanes was our first dog ever, he was purebred AKC registered and the lineage he came from had some larger than standard sizes. He was the only one in his litter who in his adulthood was bigger and longer than any Havanese I have personally seen...28 pounds with not an ounce of fat. He was super healthy until he developed both a rare lymphoma and anal gland cancer. We lost him in August 2020 after doing very well on chemo for a year and a half, when he suddenly plummeted at age 17 and 1/2 yrs old. Devastating and we are still working on getting over this loss. We also have a much younger Malty-poo that we rescued. We really prefer the Havanese largely for the multi-colors and larger than life personality... we hope to get another Havanese puppy eventually.
We had a lovely male Maltese for 13 years and couldn't love that dog more. He passed and we needed a full year of grieving. So when we got emotionally prepared we went to get a havanese puppy as my wife had researched and decided on that breed. We didn't feel right getting another Maltese. Too many memories. So we went to get the one male and when we met his little brother we made a snap decision and got both. Couldn't be happier. Just the dynamic is amazing. Great dogs. Very protective. Fun and spicy. They always have companionship between themselves or with us. Thats a big deal because these dogs crave attention. The pattern for their days are very simple. They run and play for 2 hours outside then come into their separate kennels which they love. Rinse and repeat. They do get separation anxiety when theyre apart from one another so i take them on separate walks daily to acclimate. Just great pets. I do all grooming and it saves money plus i enjoy it. Love these boys!!
We went with a Havanese because they are sturdier and we had two, young children, one who is mildly autistic. 11 1/2 years later, we couldn't have asked for a better dog than Dina.
By all means, a Maltese. I now have my second little one as our sweet Bella got cancer. Sassy Sadie is our love now. She has a definite mind of her own but is by my side at all times.
I've had my Havanese for 8 yrs. His name is Buddy. He is very clise in personality to how you decribed havanese in your video. One thing that is so true he is a loving friend and hates to be left alone!
We have a maltese female breed with charming characteristics.cute look n fearless. More understanding than humans and has a position❤️ achieved by herself..
Havanese wins, look at the comments. I lost my Havanese, best dam breed ever. I had my boy for 13 years, I loved that dog. It left me heart broken. I have not been able to get another dog yet, its been 2 years.
we just got our 3rd havanese, we lost our second one at age 13 1/2 in April. My husband wanted another dog asap we called a breeder who had just had a litter and we lucked out getting another havanese dog. It's hard to find a good breeder of these dogs. So far our new dog is very healthy, she's 4 months old and now weighs 9 lbs. The breeder had one male and 3 females. We had the 2nd pick of the litter, we got a female that was the best looking female, the male was the biggest, mine was the second biggest and the pick of the females imo. We haven't had a male havanese yet, maybe in the future we will get a male. I loved all our female havanese dogs though. Very good dogs.
Female Havanese pup almost 7 months. Smart, agile. Shows strong rodent hunting instincts. Seemed quiet and shy at breeder visits, turned out to have plenty of facets to personality and vocalizations. Pretty tough little pooch.
We met our ever so handsome Havenese at $300 ..We looked everywhere for a rescue like our Havapoo. Met someone in my neighborhood who’ breeds these adorable pups..
Used to be involved with a Havanese that I nicknamed Ted after that dog in the movies she loved nothing better than a treat, chicken necks and a game preferably with a little treat or two along the way. Miss her heaps not with her owner anymore such a cool little dog. ps very partial to cold roast chicken also. ❤️😒🐶🐶
Don't just choose one , choose both. I have a Havanese and a Maltese ! Louie, the Maltese , is a few years older , but they are "brothers". They eat together, sleep together, and play together. My home with these two furry babies ,have made me very happy.
I have both of these breeds and I love them both. I have to say tho the Havanese breed stole my heart. I just got a second Havanese pup to go with my other havanese and my Maltese
I had a Havanese for 16 years. Loved her. She didn't like small children especially when the jumped or banged their feet. She was 11 lbs of bossy. She was incharge. Potty training was difficult, to the extent I would say never fully trained. I was trained. She was always with me. I really miss her.
Some facts you have incorrect. The maltese is the oldest toy breed They have been around since 5000 bce They are the grandparents genetically of the poodle, bison, shi tzu, heaviness, and laso opso. The can be between 4lbs to 12 lbs and up to 12 inches tall They are rated #1 in service and companion animals for people with mental illness They are incredibly intelligent I know all this bc I own a service dog fully certified maltese and have for 6 years I did research for a year and a half before getting him. He is by far the best dog I have ever owned. He is the sweetest and most well behaved and knows hundreds of comands/words
It's a good idea to brush your puppy every day from the time they are very young, even though they don't really have long enough hair to get matted yet. This way they will be quite used to it and won't misbehave at the groomers. Wash your puppy's sweet little face as often as you can right from the start too! Especially with the Maltese or white Havanese, once tear stains around the eyes or food stains around the mouth show up, they're almost impossible to eradicate. Regular toothbrushing is important too, for fresh breath and preventing tooth loss later in life. The biggest issue though is your fur baby's tiny feets! Handle their feet every day from day one, or they are very likely to become overly sensitive there and put up a fight when it's time for a pet-icure!
We have a terrific Havanese chocolat. After 8 years he got Atopy skin problems. Very Itchy and escalating. He eats only veganistic food now and it seems it helps. Combing daily and cleaning his eyes and under his tail area is nessesary.
We find out this week if Honeybear, pictured at left, and his lady-friend, Angel, were successful in starting a litter. We get a puppy as his “stud fee” and I could not be more excited about the potential of a second generation Havi baby! If you read this, please consider sending some fertility energy their way, haha. Thank you, pet friends!
Easy as pie 😊 Just don’t choose! Our Havanese is 7yo and our Maltese 3,5yo. They are great together! They play, keep each other company and we get twice the cuddles ❤
I have a havanese and a shihtzu. My havanese is much more obedient and so sweet. She love playing fetch. She is smart. She understands things that I said. She never bites. She barks but stop when I tell her not to. She love rolling in the bed and on grass. She is the best breed that I ever owned.
My neighbor had a Shihtzu, they're cute but I don't care for the pushed in face, I heard those dogs with pushed in faces have breathing issues. I really love the havanese's facial features, they are so darn cute. I like Maltese's too but I feel they are too delicate.
I have a Maltese and my best friend owns a Havanese, they are the best doggies so smart and loyal. Her havanese is bit bigger then the average and weighs about 18 lbs while my Maltese is 1/4 shih tzu and weighs 9lbs
Havanese are very very smart. Sometimes to smart. If u do something they don't like they will let you know. They are fun and very loving and protective. They are the best dog ever!
I have a Havenese ber name is CoCo she is just 2 months old and i could train her so easily she is really the best companion she is always by my side every where and anywhere yes anywhere even if i wana go 💩 but ofc i lock the door 😂 But anyways she is always there for me, and for me she is my best friend 😌 I love you CoCo ❤
I have a Maltese/Yorkie mix. She’s 6 months old & extremely active. Her looks are similar to the Maltese & she’s 4.5 pounds. She needs training, but we can’t afford it. How can we train her?
My dog responded well to clicker training with treats. You click the clicker when the dog does the right thing, it doesn't take long for a click to be associated with 'good', I had no trouble with training because she tried so hard to please me. One of the most useful commands was 'go wee-wee' before getting in the car. To train this, I would take her out when I knew she needed to go, gave the command and, as soon as she started to pee, I clicked the clicker and praised her. When she finished, I repeated the praise and gave her a treat.
I owned a Havanese beautiful all-white baby 6 lbs all-white big black eyes, she just passed away in Oct. 2020 during a simple spay, i was shocked that her eyes were wide open and never got regimortis,, if she was put under on propofol? please give me an answer to this i was an RN for 42 yrs and never seen anyone's eyes wide open, i they die during the surgery???
Jasmine also saved my life when my son was murdered by a drunken driver, she loved me so much she was so affectionate and gave me such love we could never be apart.
I have always had dogs and never ever had one like the 6 lb Havanese she was going on 15 when she passed but very very healthy. Please tell me why she died like that 14 mins during surgery? best by far breed on the planet 100%
ever since my Jasmine died I have been looking for another one,, I can't find one do you know any good breeders of small white black-eyed 6 lb Havanese??I'm devastated, her hair was actually very thick and a little curly. so she was always groomed lower. Hair grew like a weed.
Did you ever take your dogs to the groomer or did you groom them yourselves? To be honest, taking them to the groomers is really the factor holding me back from getting a small dog breed, especially during these times.
It’s not that bad. I take her for grooming 3-4 times a year. Cost $65 each time. Although I do have to brush her at least every second day or else her hair gets mats everywhere.
I got a Havanese 3 months ago. I researched the breed 6 months. I am so happy with my choice. I love my baby girl. She learned to fetch at 3 months and now plays catch with me. Very easy to train.

We have always had Rescue dogs but with covid, nearly all dogs were adopted early on. When our Lhasa rescue died in December, my heart was broken. Winter, our Havanese helps us to mend and is a companion for our other rescue dog, Pepper. LOVE her.
I have 2 havanese ..and they are so adorable and intelligent
I have a Maltese since she was 2 months. She is now 12 1/2yrs. Highly intelligent and expressive love to listen to ole school hits from the 80s especially when I sing outloud, music from that time is more soothing to the ears.
I'm a 71 year old retiree and am shopping around for a dog. Both breeds you mentioned are equally lovely but I think the Maltese won my heart.
I went for the havvy
The greatest love I've ever known in my life came from my Maltese dogs.
After owning a husky, and a black lab, I decided to get a Maltese... and ended up with a Havanese - the bigger, sturdier and more colorful version 😉
That must have been such a big difference between owning big - medium sized dogs compared to owning a Havanese :)
My Havanese is such a blessing, adorable but feisty.
Will have some available in July. $800

We bred Havanese but inherited a Maltese pup a year ago. Love them all. My Maltese is quite the barker. My female Hav will bark for reason.
I love my Havanese 🐶 , he has separation anxiety since they are velcro dog. Our solution we got another Havanese 🐶. Love them both!!
I have a havanese and I’ll never get another dog breed. He is the best dog I have ever had. And I’ve had about 10 different breeds.
Maltese for me. Lulu has brought me so much joy!! She charms me with her little barks, whines, and the way she looks at me ❣❤
I deeply loved my two Maltese babies. I wouldn’t have any other dog, though I love them all!💗💕
We went with a Havanese because they are sturdier and we had two, young children, one who is mildly autistic. 11 1/2 years later, we couldn't have asked for a better dog than Dina.
All dogs are awesome....but the Havanese, well they are just a bucket of love. I never loved any pet more than my little boy Havanese.
My Havanese was absolutely the best!! She passed away 2 months ago at the ripe old age of 16 1/2 years.
I had maltese havanese mix .. its so sweet
I have to 2 male malteses dogs they are great dogs very smart, i love them both.
I want a puppy so bad. I’m leaning more towards havanese ❤️
You won't regret it...Havanese are amazing.

My new puppy's mother has just started her season, so I should be getting my Havanese in just over 4 months, if all goes well.
So in other words they're both awesome and would make any family happy....
Havanese and Maltese rhyme!!😁
I noticed you pronounced agility right!! 😃 🐕
Yeah, thank to you :) I try my best not to forget :D I appreciate every other correction :)
My Havanese🥰, she will be 3 in April. She loves to praise Jesus.
🙏❤❤🙏
Havanaz because I have one and it's the best puppy 🐶 🐶 🐶 🐶 🐶
Havanese dog is best
Female Havanese pup almost 7 months. Smart, agile. Shows strong rodent hunting instincts. Seemed quiet and shy at breeder visits, turned out to have plenty of facets to personality and vocalizations. Pretty tough little pooch.
Thanks for the wonderful video. I had a Maltese for 16 years and she was wonderful I think if I could I would get a Maltese and Havanese cross 👍🏻🥰
I've owned a Maltese many years ago. Great dog. Currently I own a Maltipoo. Smart dog, he understands everything I say. I keep him in a puppy clip.
What is a puppy clip?
@@JoanneSgrignoli hair cut short, not long like a show dog. Much easier to keep tangle-free
@@jurapp5334 Thank you!
We met our ever so handsome Havenese at $300 ..We looked everywhere for a rescue like our Havapoo. Met someone in my neighborhood who’ breeds these adorable pups..
Havi ❤️
Used to be involved with a Havanese that I nicknamed Ted after that dog in the movies she loved nothing better than a treat, chicken necks and a game preferably with a little treat or two along the way. Miss her heaps not with her owner anymore such a cool little dog. ps very partial to cold roast chicken also. ❤️😒🐶🐶
Don't just choose one , choose both. I have a Havanese and a Maltese ! Louie, the Maltese , is a few years older , but they are "brothers". They eat together, sleep together, and play together. My home with these two furry babies ,have made me very happy.
I have a Havanese boy and havamalt girl, love love both of them! ❤️❤️
I have both of these breeds and I love them both. I have to say tho the Havanese breed stole my heart. I just got a second Havanese pup to go with my other havanese and my Maltese
Havanese
Havanese
I had a Havanese for 16 years. Loved her. She didn't like small children especially when the jumped or banged their feet. She was 11 lbs of bossy. She was incharge. Potty training was difficult, to the extent I would say never fully trained. I was trained. She was always with me. I really miss her.
I have the best of both worlds. I have a Havamalt.
Perfekt!👍
Thank you for the information. Just curious - what accent is that?
i have a 1 yr old havanese shes a joy
Love love love my Havanese.
I have a Havanese !!!
Watching this with my maltese bichon And my dream pet is a havanese
Some facts you have incorrect.
The maltese is the oldest toy breed
They have been around since 5000 bce
They are the grandparents genetically of the poodle, bison, shi tzu, heaviness, and laso opso.
The can be between 4lbs to 12 lbs and up to 12 inches tall
They are rated #1 in service and companion animals for people with mental illness
They are incredibly intelligent
I know all this bc I own a service dog fully certified maltese and have for 6 years I did research for a year and a half before getting him. He is by far the best dog I have ever owned. He is the sweetest and most well behaved and knows hundreds of comands/words
Does the Maltese have a reputation for barking a lot?
I think bichon, not bison 😂🙃🤣
Yesterday I adopted a Maltese I named her Sofie she’s 4 1/2 months old from a rescue my first adoption😃🐾
Havanese mum forever ❤️
I have a havanais puppy!❤️ Pippi!❤️ she is my love!❤️my best friend!❤️
I have a beautiful older Havanese and I love 💘❤💕♥💗💖💘❤ my Sammybaby!!!!!!!
You have such a lovely voice!
Cuban 🇨🇺 Havenese 🐶 ❤️
Desi havanese, cute Maltese 😍
I’ll take both
I have a Havenese ber name is CoCo she is just 2 months old and i could train her so easily she is really the best companion she is always by my side every where and anywhere yes anywhere even if i wana go 💩 but ofc i lock the door 😂
But anyways she is always there for me, and for me she is my best friend 😌
I love you CoCo ❤
I LOVE my Maltese ❤ best dog ever!!
I have one of each!
I like the Havanese ❤️❤️❤️

I had a Maltese. Now I have a Havanese.
So, go dogs!
Love to hear that :) Maybe get another one?
Did you ever take your dogs to the groomer or did you groom them yourselves? To be honest, taking them to the groomers is really the factor holding me back from getting a small dog breed, especially during these times.
It’s not that bad. I take her for grooming 3-4 times a year. Cost $65 each time. Although I do have to brush her at least every second day or else her hair gets mats everywhere.
@@bandaidsandshoes Thank you so much, I really appreciate your response.
Advik Sandhu no problem
All are best street dogs puppies cats all are heaven ❤️❤️💋💋❤️❤️❤️❤️
