As the air gets colder it becomes more dense. So you put more air and fuel in the cylinders which makes for more power. That's why they use intercoolers on turbos and superchargers
It's not more air in volumetric terms. Like you said it's density. The molecules are more tightly packed, so in the same volume of air there is more O2. However due to the closed loop nature of motorcycle EFI all it really does is lean out your map some.
HEY DAN ONE MORE THING IF YOUR GONNA GO FAST ON THAT ROAD BY THE HOSPITAL YOU KNOW THERE IS A GEORGIA STATE PATROL OUTPOST RIGHT THERE ON THE LEFT IM JUST SAYING BE CAREFUL BECAUSE DONT WANT AN EPISODE OF DO IT WITH DAN IN JAIL EDITION

But motorcycles also are cheaper vehicles and also cause less damage to other vehicles/property/people in collisions. So even if motorcycles do crash more often, it still usually costs insurance companies less. Typical motorcycle insurance is only $50-150 a month, so for his to be over $300 is pretty crazy. Probably mostly due to the reckless ticket..!
KNACK 2 THA FUTURE I don't think this is inherently true, my car is more to insure than all 3 of my bikes combined. And I have 2 dick missiles and a dual-sport. Also my record is completely clean and I'm 24 as well. Besides the shear number of cars makes car/truck accidents far more prominent than the minority of motorbike accidents.
Have you had the suspension on any of your bikes setup? It is hands down the best money you can spend on one. My suspension guy is in just north of Montgomery AL around Lake Martin and I strongly recommend him. Even if he doesn't revalve the stock shock or forks (most of the aftermarket stuff is extreme over kill for street riding) and just adjusts the stock components for your weight the difference is unreal. Most bikes are setup from the factory for a 150 lbs rider and have plenty of room for improvement.
When its colder, more air can get crammed into the cylinders cause the particles are compacted together so you can get more air into a small area than if the air was hot. This allows for a bigger boom in the cylinders, this gives better power. Same with turbos.
cold air is denser (being closer to sea level also helps - guys in florida have a big advantage) so you do make more power but since you have a supercharger you can actually still make good power even at high elevation since it will force more air in (piston engine planes sometimes use turbos or superchargers for this reason). you do still make more power with that dense air though.
Clay yeah but the oxygen is all you want and all that matters. cold air being more dense is just the oxygen molecules being closer together in a given volume. so yes, more oxygen as per my og comment.
for this case, yes oxygen is all you need in the bike. if you want to be specific cold air makes air dense not just oxygen. because from the way you phrase the sentence, it's like saying cold air only makes oxygen dense
Dan The air is cold and is thinner so it can be compressed in the super/turbocharger allowing more air to flow through. That's why you see 2000 hp builds like the cars on street outlaws putting ice in a box on their engine. it cools the air that goes into their turbochargers. Just a little word to the wise :)
Haven't you watched "Fear and Loathing" Dan? They like it when you take off at full speed, put your blinker on as if your looking for a place to pull over, pull a crazy manoeuvre and stop. He let you go cuz you were too boring.
That’s crazy for that bike. I just checked Geico for a 2018 h2 and it was only $118 a month. If you’re not using them, would check it out. They wanted something like 4800 to insure my S 1000 rr at progressive. $800 through Geico. Saved 4K a year! I couldn’t believe the difference.
I can agree on the addiction lol I've "tested" several drugs and nothing can compare to riding or going fast in general. Love the feeling when you scare yourself from the speed and you shake so hard when you get off you can't even talk.
Kevin Smith 147 a year for my 99' R6 and I'm 20 and I still have my permit lol now that's basic coverage I have on it but full coverage would've been like maybe 500 a year? I didn't get full coverage because I bought the bike with cash in full and it was only 1,600 bucks. Lol now that I think of it I spent over 4,000 in mods on that bike and if I wreck it I won't get any of that back so maybe I should upgrade to full coverage XD
Here in Italy the insurance cost is calculated every six months/every year. As a new rider I'm paying like €130 every six months for full coverage on a 300cc.
Guido Hendrikx watch it again. Dan was speeding pretty good and then he says “ahhh no don’t do it” and then he pulled over and the cop decided to keep going.
When you have a turbocharger, most times you will also have an intercooler (or whatever you would call it) to cool down the air your turbo(s) is/are sucking in. Cold air has a lower density (i think, don't quite remember the difference between high and low density) than hot air, so more air is able to go into the the cylinder than if your turbo was just forcing warm air into it. Pretty sure thats how it works if my memory is recalling correctly. I think superchargers work with the same concept.

Here in Sweden, if you are relatively new to bikes, you can get bankrupt by insurance. A friend passed all tests at the age of 24 and bought the R1 back in 2012~. If he wanted to insure it for the whole year, it would cost him somewhere between 7100$-8100$ per year. He couldnt drive it whenever he wanted because of the high cost, so he "solved it" by contacting the company and told them about his planned trips with his biker-friends so he could get temporary insurance for those days/weeks only and only pay for that. But outside of those dates, he couldnt drive the bike at all. I just wanted to make this comment to get people some perspective of how people define "expensive" :) Great video, sick bike! Haven´t driven the H2 yet, most crazy thing i´ve ever driven is a Honda CBR Fireblade Turbo with 300hp+ @ 1.2bar~. But that was just too much, i was going very gently. Take a heat gun or even a hair dryer and heat the stickers up super hot, hot enough to melt the glue and then gently take a new razor blade and try and start one corner loose enough to get ahold of it and slowly peel it off. And don’t worry if you make a tiny scratch with the razor it will buff out. Then after you get the actual paper off if there is any glue left just use some degreaser diluted with soapy water and get it off. Then if it’s not perfect shiny get you some buffing compound and make it shiny then wax for protection when done buffing and it helps to feel in any scratches that might be left.
@@CheapskateMotorsports if it's a 125 you're probably like 18 which means insurance thinks ur reckless and will up the insurance, they do this a lot here in the netherlands with teens who just turn 16 and buy a moped. That's why insurance for vespa's is a lot here.
@@brianq7365 I'm actually 22. I could easily do my A2 license at this age which is why it makes no sense to charge me this much for a 125 when many 16 year olds get charged less than me.
@@CheapskateMotorsports that's weird. I was not trying to insult you. It's just what caught my eye here in the netherlands. I just assumed you were 18 or around that age because that's the age you can get your A1 license here.
the density of air gets greater when cooler. which means there is more mass of air in a certain space. so if your engine gets cooler air there can be fitted more air into the cylinder. especially if your engine is super/turbocharged.
Two things ..both you know whatever, but one. looks like your bike understeers (especially coming out of the throttle) so (you could) drop the triple clamps down the forks ..say 1cm looks like would do no harm. (there's a steering damper right?) And two. rotate your clutch and front brake levers so that they are more in line with your forearm's angle with the handle bars, I find it far better that way ...otherwise you have to wind your wrists back to use them...anyhow as I said whatever (u like).
It was 92 degrees where I live in Sunny Southern California. And it was 11/22 which was and is My Birthday!!!! That bike is a Supercharged rocket Dan.Enjoy have fun and be safe.
Dan... do you know how much those trucks you threaded between weigh? They're 2-ton machines. With ridiculously long stopping distances. Personally, I drive an SUV (not by choice, BTW), and it's the same situation... the one thing that makes me more nervous than anything else in the world is people who ride unpredictably around my 2-ton deathbox, because I know that if something happens I'm not gonna be able to get it to stop in time. Like, ride that way if you want, but maybe you should save it for the track...
To safely remove those stickers, use baby oil. Saturate a paper towel with it. Dab the oil over the entire stickers. Let it set for about a minute. Then, take t hff em off. It works every time and its extremely safe for the paint. Goo Gone is good but could be harsh on the clearcoat.
Mainland Britain and just past motorcycle test. Busa costs £480. Offences add 25% unless for drink driving or dangerous driving which you pay a lot more. The turbo thing with cold air and cooler fuel getting into the cylinders is an interesting subject even for non turbo bikes.
Air is more dense at lower temperatures so even a non turbo/supercharged engine makes more power at lower temperatures due to more oxygen molecules per CC of air going into the engine. The ECU needs to put more fuel in to make use of the extra oxygen though.
cold air has less volume, so the density is higher and theres more air in your enige aswell as in your turbo charger, naturally asporated engines go better aswell just due to the density of the air, you'll even notice it on very very small engines such as a 50cc bike
Cool air is more condensed and contains more particles per square centimetre compared to warmer air so essentially you are putting more air into the cylinder which allows the engine to burn more fuel and thus make more power. Edit: just a basic explanation, there's more to it than that but that's all you really need to know.
Lol trying to be a smartass.. cold air is 'lighter'. So less particles per liter air. That is why you cant properly breathe on high altitudes because it's colder, and there is less oxygen per liter air.
There was no disclaimer. So Dan is actually brown now.

You know what Dan we are going to get a video from you one day say I crashed the ninja H2
Dre Wallis why would you crash his H2?
I doubt we will, because he'll be dead.
Insurance, half coverage of an H2 for Germany gets around 900€ a year.
Wow that's about the same I pay for my yzf r125 in London🤣
@@brianq7365 lol no offence taken, I was trying to put into perspective how fucked the insurance industry is in the UK compared to sane countries
Dan pls don't die. I love your videos. You're the main thing that got me interested in motorcycles.
Mean while in Michigan you Insurance would be 800 a month
the density of air gets greater when cooler. which means there is more mass of air in a certain space. so if your engine gets cooler air there can be fitted more air into the cylinder. especially if your engine is super/turbocharged.
The answer is "Air density."
That intro! What a throwback. Brings back good memories
300 for a truck and a CORVETTE? I'm 18 with a 2012 BASE 4 DOOR FORD FOCUS this car has like 110hp. They're charging me $299 a month.
Hi, come live in SA, im 19 and pay R400 a month on insurance. Change that to Dollor would be about $30 to $40
Mathys Mostert aye! Fellow South African. You down to ride sometime? I live in Cape Town. Hmu
Hah you think that’s a lot. I’m 16 with a 350 hp sedan, worth about 40k. Insuring that thing is a bitch
I’m 17 and my Corvette costs me $150/month. I also live in a rural area though, so that matters a lot.
Doesn't matter, your parents pay for both lmao.
your winter weather is BEAUTIFUL
Whenever I see this bike I feel like it will fly the next moment like a jet.
Bullshit... I’m born and raised in Atlanta and I love the cold weather.
amere720 me to
THE THROW BACK INTROOOOOO!!!! I love watching dans old videos on his raggedy CBR600s
Was it only me that was waiting for “note: not actually brown” at the beginning of the video
Michael Peatfield no
It was 92 degrees where I live in Sunny Southern California. And it was 11/22 which was and is My Birthday!!!! That bike is a Supercharged rocket Dan.Enjoy have fun and be safe.
Note: not actually brown
Dan... do you know how much those trucks you threaded between weigh? They're 2-ton machines. With ridiculously long stopping distances. Personally, I drive an SUV (not by choice, BTW), and it's the same situation... the one thing that makes me more nervous than anything else in the world is people who ride unpredictably around my 2-ton deathbox, because I know that if something happens I'm not gonna be able to get it to stop in time. Like, ride that way if you want, but maybe you should save it for the track...
You beat the shit out of that thing
To safely remove those stickers, use baby oil. Saturate a paper towel with it. Dab the oil over the entire stickers. Let it set for about a minute. Then, take t hff em off. It works every time and its extremely safe for the paint. Goo Gone is good but could be harsh on the clearcoat.
"Speaking of racism"😂
Mainland Britain and just past motorcycle test. Busa costs £480. Offences add 25% unless for drink driving or dangerous driving which you pay a lot more. The turbo thing with cold air and cooler fuel getting into the cylinders is an interesting subject even for non turbo bikes.
Title at 5:30
MrSnowrocks Thank you
Air is more dense at lower temperatures so even a non turbo/supercharged engine makes more power at lower temperatures due to more oxygen molecules per CC of air going into the engine. The ECU needs to put more fuel in to make use of the extra oxygen though.
Dan my boi
U drank to much cofevee
cold air has less volume, so the density is higher and theres more air in your enige aswell as in your turbo charger, naturally asporated engines go better aswell just due to the density of the air, you'll even notice it on very very small engines such as a 50cc bike
It takes Dan about 4 seconds to go from talking to a bug at a stoplight to flying faster than most of us have ever driven.
