      @sourhour3403 Good catch! this is a really late reply but I’m a former detective so I had to comment. I’m happy you noticed that, and it’s actually a real interrogation technique that the FBI teaches. It’s called a “pregnant pause” and it serves the purpose you assumed it did. At the moment of confrontation they basically have a natural tendency to fill the awkward silence, often with information that explains the evidence before you finish confronting them about it. But due to the adrenaline dump and lack of prep time, they almost always give an inconsistency, a lie, or accidental confession (excited utterance) by mistake, leaving the interviewer with more evidence than before.
      (I started typing to explain the technique but started explaining the nuances and eventually ended up writing something that resembled a published scholarly article, so if you’re interested you can find out more online lol)

    One small thing
    When you load into a zombie game solo, you play as one of 4 characters. Rarely does this matter in speed runs but in shadows of evil you must get a certain character, Nero, because he can let you perform a certain step (upgraded swords) much faster then every other character. Which means runs must get Nero and reign drops in order to get past round 1, and it’s why soe takes a lot of luck.

    So genuine question here: this guy was actually amazing at the game and the only thing he cheated was the RNG. If every runner resets until they get that RNG, is it so terrible? I mean, why isn't it more common practice to force RNG in these games where basically 90% of your tries are reset partway through at no fault of your own? It seems like a waste of time. Kinda like playing Jenga but someone kicks the table every turn. It's not a measure of skill. It's just a measure of endurance.
    I'm not saying we should take this particular run as valid. There are certain rules in place and he violated them. I'm talking about speedrunning in general.

    I'm not a speedrunner, but part of me thinks that RNG is a bullshit mechanic when it comes to speedrunning, it's luck of the draw. I think speedrunning should be a sheer display of skill and maybe it should be allowed for players to manipulate RNG so that everyone has a chance to be the most skillful, rather than wasting their lives trying to get lucky. I know a lot of people will disagree with that but that's just my two cents.

    • @BigBuckies
      @BigBuckies Год назад

      this really depends on the game, there are plenty of games that have basically 0 rng and are purely skill based and then there are runs like these with low chances, and everything in between, some games even have perfect rng manipulation that can be pulled off with human input, ultimately no game has the same level of rng so there can't really be a "universal" clause for it aside from allowing external software, which some speedrun communities allow, bioshock infinite for example has an equipment drop needed for optimal gameplay, so speedrunners use a mod that guarantees it

    If there's RNG that forces you to throw away run after run (bubblegum luck, which wave has the needed enemy spawn), and there is a way to hack that to happen in the right order, the community should come together and decide if that would be ok to use or not. Even if it is it's own category. It sucks that this guy cheated, but other than the RNG manipulation the run was legit, correct? So it's a shame that he gets so much hate for using something that simply made it so that he didn't have to waste hundreds of hours throwing away runs. Yes, it was an advantage over other runners, but honestly, they should have been using it too.
