Hi from Australia. 🇦🇺 I've been watching a few of the auditorial subjects on the construction materials of several models of wave runners. I've purchased a 2006 Yamaha FXHO Cruiser with a MR-1 FX1100a_e engine that had shot N° 1 conrod out it's engine block. For a tinny boat project build. Now I've decided to run the WaveRunner for a couple of seasons before installing it's components in to the project build. While in the process of installing a freshly rebuilt engine I've come across a little bit of damage to the inner lining. A 2" long crack. Now having to repair the inner lining I'm wondering what's it's composed of ? Then I look under the hull to only see more damage. So I ask also what construction materials are the bottom outer hull made of & what do I need to repair both the inner lining & outer bottom hull of this 2006 Yamaha FXHO Cruiser waverunner. Kind regards Bernard.🇦🇺
Awesome video as usual. I went with a 22 fx cruiser svho this past fall. I’m already seeing some scratches on the bottom, and I now realize it was from beaching it twice. It’s my first ski and I want it to last. Should I apply a gator glide or slick 2000 bottom paint to it? Would it effect any performance?
Will this switch help prevent the paint bubbling in the footwells that I have experienced on my 2017 FX Cruiser SVHO? It occurs from rain water sitting in the footwells for a period of time.
The hull mold is the same, just the material is thicker/heavier. This means less about maneuverability (except the relocated sponsons help) and more about absorbing vibration/impact, which in turn, reduces rider fatigue.
We literally just bought a 21 FX cruiser HO 3 weeks ago so do I need to be scared about hitting waves in the ocean? I know how to load and unload my ski and I know not to be running into docs but if I’ve got to worry about my hull breaking in half while hitting a wave that freakin sucks the amount of money I just spent… hopefully it’s still a good hull just not quite as good as the 22 model
Back in the day Ocean Yacht Sportfish boats were called “the flexible flyers” bc the hulls were so much thinner than there competition Viking Yachts and others. Yamaha’s nanoexcell vs Kawasaki’s hand laid ultra hull is a similar comparison just in smaller form. But.....still not plastic, lol
Nano2 is NOT as bad as the internet would have you believe. The vast majority of failures came from folks running their skis up the beach or up the bunks of their trailers too hard.
@@watercraftjournal I was ready to write this comment until Kevin said the SMC is painted. That's really a disappointment. I repaired a dime-sized gouge in the gelcoat of my STX-15F with a simple $40 gel-coat patch kit. A little wet sanding and polish had it looking like new. Dealing with paint on the hull sounds like a nightmare in comparison.
2015. The issue is NOT as bad as the Internet would have you believe. But folks continue to play too rough or are too careless with how they treat their hulls, but Yamaha wants buyers to have a better, longer lasting experience with their WaveRunners, so this was the best solution.
@@watercraftjournal Interesting I was hoping 2016-17 FX SVHO with upgraded timing chain still had Nano Uno. I didn't have any problems with my 2020 GP1800R SVHO, but did notice I would see paint left on my bunks from loading and unloading. I even put slides to try and minimize it along with backing trailer in enough before loading to have all the carpet wet.
The people that just baught the 21 FX.. I got the 21 6 months ago definitely a noticable hull flex when hitting chop it was a little startling the noise it makes
The 18 txt hull shakes in midair on a fairly good wake jump. I dunno if it’s engine torque winding down along with a open top deck like covertable cowl shake
Its shaking because its hitting the rev limiter as the pump becomes unloaded out of the water, try to chop the throttle in the air or remap and raise the rev limiter at the same time as chopping the throttle.
This is the reason I went with a '22 FX HO rather than the VX HO. I had a '19 VX deluxe w/TR-1 engine and there was just too much noise and vibration with that ski. The FX is like a luxury ski compared...no vibration in my hands...quieter, rides of course better...and still goes 62-63.
So the breakdown of hull material is as follows for 2022 models? NanoXcel or NanoXcel 2 for: Jet Blaster VX Deluxe VX Cruiser VX Cruiser HO VX Limited VX Limited HO GP1800R HO GP 1800R SVHO The hulls that will have SMC in 2022 are: EX EX Sport EX Deluxe EX Limited VX-C VX -----‐--------------------------------------------------- FX line will have SMC hulls with NanoXcel decks for the top half on HOs and NanoXcel 2 on the SVHOs.
@@watercraftjournal huge amount of confusion on this issue. So I'm trying to create a clear concise list that people can look at and easily understand which hull is on which model.

@@watercraftjournal Yes i've seen all of these videos. But i dont remember he talks about any PIECES in plastic resine that de add to the jet. Im not talking about a lotion or a liquid, but about a solid piece that we add on the jet hull front, like a shoe ^^ (sry im french i'vnt the right word)

No, proper maintenance will.
@@watercraftjournal any specific maintenance that you recommend? Currently I have to put a tarp over the Yamaha cover which is a huge PIA!

Do the 2022 FX models have SMC hulls as well? or just the 2023's?

@@watercraftjournal thanks for your reply and yes

With the hull differences, is the maneuverability handling (not in rough water) superior in FX HO than VX Cruiser HO?
The hull mold is the same, just the material is thicker/heavier. This means less about maneuverability (except the relocated sponsons help) and more about absorbing vibration/impact, which in turn, reduces rider fatigue.
How is it thicker if it’s the same mold?

LOL no. Enjoy the heck out of it! Just scan it occasionally for paint cracks and scratches.
Do you think the GP1800R are still good since they use the NanoXcel 2?
OF COURSE! Nano2 is NOT BAD it's just sensitive; and too many folks were running their skis up beaches or up the bunks of their trailers.

which has the better smoother ride, the SMC fiberglass Hull or the Nano on the FX?
Most would say SMC only because it ABSORBS more vibrations and jostles, not that the hull shape behaves differently.

Unlikely to happen. The GP’s are lightweight race craft - they benefit greatly from Nano2.
The 18 txt hull shakes in midair on a fairly good wake jump. I dunno if it’s engine torque winding down along with a open top deck like covertable cowl shake

That's no good.
Its shaking because its hitting the rev limiter as the pump becomes unloaded out of the water, try to chop the throttle in the air or remap and raise the rev limiter at the same time as chopping the throttle.
Can the new fiberglass hull be replaced or fitted to a 2021 instead of the

NanoXcel or NanoXcel 2 for:
Jet Blaster
VX Deluxe
VX Cruiser
VX Cruiser HO
VX Limited

GP1800R HO
GP 1800R SVHO
The hulls that will have SMC in 2022 are:

There are paint-applied coatings and then there are plastic guards. Neither are recommended, and both are frowned upon by the manufacturers.
Do you think they’ll make this switch on the vx line eventually?
