I got the 2023 FX SVHO Limited only because I like to have the newest and show off, I'm fat and old so anything helps. Other than that, I agree, you do not need the Bluetooth and all that stuff.

I’ll keep my 1996 Yamaha WVT1100 with no tech and a fiberglass and gelcoat hull- that thing is bulletproof.

Are the 2025 VX models still use nanocell. Or do they use the SMC too?

An equal and even bigger problem than the fuel gauge, is the trip odometer. It resets automatically every time you turn the ski off. When I'm going 120+ mile trips I like to keep track of distance traveled and fuel consumed so I can continue to better plan these long rides and not worry about running short on gas. Yamaha doesn't seem to care about updating problems and satisfying existing customers just pumping out more skis and higher sales numbers.

Why don’t they use gel coat? Weight?

I literally have NO idea. It would've allowed them to keep Nano2 on the FX's and solve all of these delaminating issues.

    • @simonwallace699

Gelcoat has to be applied in the mould before the fibreglass/SMC gets laid down. It's a more time-consuming and (I'm guessing) probably more costly process. SMC gets stamped out of a machine so it would probably be much harder to do it that way. The advantage of paint is that it's easy to change colours and you can therefore do multiple colours for a given model. I just wish Yamaha would use a better quality paint (as the owner of a 2019 EXR - I LOVE the choice of colour, but I don't love how the footwell has bubbled due to poor painting technique in the footwells where water sits).
One other point - Yamaha uses a US-based labour force. It probably costs more than Sea-Doo's labour force which is in Mexico. And gelcoat is more labour intensive. Paint is applied by robot. Labour cost (Sea-Doo) vs capital cost (Yamaha)

I look at all this extra electronic frou-frou stuff as just more headaches that I will have to work on in the years to come when it goes junk. Paying for pain I don't want to begin with.

Its very difficult to delaminate an smc hull compared to the nana. But it can happen to either, its just much less likely to happen with smc.

Main thing I detest is that we have to pay more for our PWCs so that the tourists can have their bluetooth gadgets and doo-dads.
If a PWC is going to be $500-1000 cheaper by not having a full infotainment system, I'd take it. Just a fuel gauge, tacho, error code display and speedo plus F/N/R indicator is enough for me (and trim indicator, if you have that too). However the people spending the money are asking for all this stuff so I guess that's why the manufacturers are providing it...
