Watched this again the other day. Not sure when and if I’ll get the time to do this, but one loop I’d love to do would be an open ended one where the start and finish would be conveniently close: Up the Enchanted Valley, over Anderson Pass and down to Dose Forks, Up the main Dose to Dose Meadows, over Hayden Pass, down to the Elwha, up and over Low Divide, and out the North Fork Quinalt. 73 miles in total. A lot of the mileage would be valley and not super steep, but would still get in some spectacular high country. Since it involves the three rivers Aaron referred to with Mt. Anderson, could call it the Hydrographic Loop, or something like that.
Living vicariously through your videos during the covid lockdowns. I am watching all of them. Thanks so much from Kitsap native living in France. I started hiking these areas in the late 70's early 80's with Boy Scout Troop 509. Good times! Seeing these places again really jogs my memories of how beautiful it is there.
Thanks Andrew! I really like your videos and admire your work. Especially as I am creeping into the Washington wilderness more and more, it is great to get a feel for the area. I just did a trip a few weeks ago in ONP, Hoh river to blue glacier. And then some beach hiking near Scott's creek. I am actually planning on repeating your Spider meadows trip you did with Joey and Aaron next week. What a beautiful area. Thanks again for showing off the Washington beauty!
Just completed the Quinault-Skyline-Big Creek loop last week (with a gorgeous bear-filled side trip to Martins Lakes). Lots of swimming involved! Then watched your epic Bailey Traverse video, super inspiring but probably out of my league. But this route looks eminently possible--and (as with the Bailey piece) your videography and team narration is superb. Thank you! So glad I found your channel and looking forward to taking in the rest of the collection.
Living on Vancouver Island all my life, mainly on the West Shore in Victoria , I grew up looking at the Olympics but have never been. Great to watch this!
Andrew, I loved watching this. You do such great work with your time lapses. It was something else to witness your work, behind the scenes and all. Great introduction and conclusion. I really like how you fit the time lapses in with the music and transitions throughout the story. Really gives the film a wild and out of this world feeling. Also, you got some really good footage of the Black Bears we saw in the interior. A great perspective of a rugged range.
What an incredible video. I’ll definitely have this in my binge list. Can’t believe I look at these mountains out my living room window! So, some years ago, we went to the Deer Park Campground and there was a water spigot the said “Not Potable.” Is that because it is totally unfit to drink, or just has to be filtered? I don’t know. It wasn’t there when you were there?
36:08 Watching this video again while sick. That comment about the bear running away is one reason I love the Olympics. Not that it isn’t a bad idea to carry bear spray (besides, there are also cougars and bull elk) but I really never worry about face-to-face with an Olympic bear. Don’t want to be stupid about it, but it’s not the same as Montana grizzly country. At 47:48, along this section of trail in September 1997, walked by a giant downed tree that had fallen and then slid downhill to where it literally speared through another giant tree. That tree must’ve had some heart rot, but man was that impressive.
Awesome! My favorite video of the olympics! Could you recommend this for a noobie backpacker in good shape? This seriously has to be the most beautiful video i've seen!
Hey Andrew! You wouldn't happen to be able to share a GPX track of this trip, would you? I am planning a similar route for a couple weeks from now and would love some beta on the off trail sections!
Hey Andrew, I know it's a long shot but do you happen to have a GPS track for this hike? If not, do you have any suggestions for recreating the route? It looks amazing and I'd like to give it a shot. Thanks for any help and the great channel, really enjoying your videos.
Thank you! Unfortunately I do not. The route is pretty easy, the off trail sections are pretty open and it would be hard to get lost. At the moment there is lots of snow in the olympics. 2 weeks ago Aaron and I did the Bailey Traverse and it's above normal snow pack.
I have been all through this section of the Olympics, it is truly beautiful and isolated.
Great video and awesome scenery.
Excellent videography!

North Cascades is a backpackers paradise also.

Yup, I been looking at 1000 acre meadow for years also. Great job! Would love your GPS tracks/waypoints/compass bearing where you left the trail.
Incredible views! Nothing like the PNW. Glad I found your channel Andrew!

Such a gorgeous video. Bravo! Looking forward to watching your Bailey Range vid this summer. That should be pretty epic.
"Bailey Traverse 2020 here we come." Love how it all works out. We started and ended this trip with views of the Baileys and Olympus.

It just needs to be filtered. The spigot wasn't active when we did this trip, past the CG there was a flowing spring/creek we filtered from.

Looks about the same as when I did this loop the first time at the age of 10 (1969)
No way would I get that close to Mt.Fromme on such a day and not find my way to the top.No way!

You can find a description of the route in Douglas Lorain's Backpacking Washington.

will do! Apparently I got to individually do it for each video. I thought I hit a master switch but I didn't haha. Going through now to switch em on.
