@@CinemaPunkYeah but you see several other filmmakers make many other films for half the budget that bomb in the box office and land on home video and become cult classics...David Gordan Greene has always seemed like a genuine filmmaker that tries to implement his own bizarre twists in beloved horror franchises...I think he's doing this purely for others who aren't there for Fandom and want something different instead of a rehash of the same. Which I do give him credit for...he's a great filmmaker that I beileve has been compromised due to financial/contractual reasons of some sort and lost his way as a modern horror industry plant. Check out some of his earlier non horror contemporary work and I'll think you'll be pleasantly suprised. Love his esthetic, he just can't seem to properly execute these IP's. I'd love to see some original horror content from him independently, it doesn't help that he has fucking Danny Mcbride in his corner writing shit for him either.

I am so sick of dumb comments like this that act like ppl don't do what they love for profit. Filmmakers make good movies because 1. They wanna make money
      2. They have a passion.
I'm so sick of ppl complaining about legacy sequels. Pretty soon these will somehow be nostalgic like Texas chainsaw 03 and Friday the 13th 09. Finally, we have so many great horror movies coming everyday that this is the last genre you should be complaining about. Just because David Gordon green couldn't do the impossible and top the greatest horror film ever made, Hollywood is all of a sudden for profit. GTFO

This was an aspect to the original that gave a reality feeling which was a major factor in its effectiveness. Why hasn’t Hollywood rediscovered this in 50 years? Thank you for this! I can't believe it, but I believe I am going to skip this one. I am a Christian and yes I love horror movies. A friend wasn't allowed to see The Exorcist when she was a child because her parents believed it was from the devil. I explained to her how The Exorcist was so much more than the profanity coming out of a 12 year old girl. It had a tense atmosphere, showed the struggles of a single mom trying to keep her sanity while trying to find out what's wrong with her daughter, and the internal battle of a priest who has lost his faith. And as religious as they were, I couldn't understand why they wouldn't love exorcism movies. This isn't about a girl running in the woods from a murderer having to rely on her own strength and wit to survive. With exorcism movies you don't defeat the evil yourself, or even with a community of people. You have to go to God to intervene. It's the ultimate good v evil. If DGG didn't explore this, then I am not interested.

I agree I just watched the movie last night, it seems like nowadays shows and movies try to deny God and his power. With the exorcist being about demonic possession and needing God to exorcise the demon out, the movie tries to make it seem like God has no power over the demon but instead people coming together has the power. I think that’s very disrespectful to not only Christianity but to most religions. Also I know you said you weren’t going to see the movie but spoiler alert anyway,at the end of the movie the demon winds up killing one of the girls and let’s the other live, I see this as the devil winning, and that also doesn’t seem right, especially since the girl who died did nothing wrong but still goes to hell.

@@Evan-e5zI’ve been seeing that too, like how are you gonna defeat demons if you don’t believe in God or at least acknowledge that the demons wouldn’t exist without God. Especially when demons were essentially fallen angels, angels that God created before they decided that they wanted to go against God who is the embodiment of good. We as humans if you read the Bible and actually believe in it, Once both Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, all of us humans were born imperfect and adding the free will we already have made us have the ability to do good and evil things. To defeat absolute evil you need something that is absolute good to destroy absolute evil in this case you need God who is the absolute good. We as humans aren’t perfect like that. We’re full of grey auras most of the time, which is why in the Exorcist franchise or other demon possessed horror they call to God or use tools connected to God to call upon him to make up and help for the imperfection that we have to help defeat demons. I’m sorry I went on a rant, even if you don’t believe in God like that, you have to at least respect where the source material for these types of things are from even if you aren’t religious.

My biggest problem is Ellen Burstyn was wasted in this film. David Gordon Green was able to get her to come back, and this is what he does with her character. I don't believe for a moment Chris MacNeil would have wrote a book on what happen. There were far better ways to shoehorn her into the this movie.
After the disappointment of the Halloween trilogy and now Exorcist Believer, David Gordon Green nd Danny McBride need to stay far, far away from The Omen, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street.
My advice is to save your money, stay home and watch the William Friedkin classic and Exorcist 3. If you're looking for a better Exorcist copycat, watch The Exorcist of Emily Rose or The Conjuring.

The original is honestly, even 50 years later, close to a perfect film. It stands on its own even outside of the horror genre as a film very well nade, well acted, well scored. It treats the audience as intelligent with its foreshadowing, the scares are genuine, well timed and executed as well as plot appropriate, and the story, while leaving room for nuance and interpretation at the close of the film, has all of the closure it ever needed. Respect to Brad Dourif, the guy is amazing at whatever he puts his hand to, but i cant help but be cynical of anything following the original film up. It really is just riding the coattails of a dead man.

The girl that ended up being free from the devil was the one without any faith in God. Her only escape was her dead mothers scarf. If she wasn't trying to contact her dead mother maybe she wouldn't be in this mess. Also, Ellen Burstyn was a waste of time. The way they used her then quickly got rid of her was such a crap move.
