A Great Sabertooth In A Terrible X-Men Movie

- X-Men Origins Wolverine is inferior to the first three X-Men movies in just about every way... but it does have a far superior Sabertooth, one I wish was coming back for Deadpool and Wolverine instead!

Idc what the comics say, Wolverine and Sabretooth being brothers is the best retcon ever
Just makes the most sense for the dynamic
Its weird they arent with how much shit has been going on between them.
You dont get that from a couple of random dudes who got dumped into a black ops squad together.
completely agreed
If you've read Wolverine: Origin, this retcon becomes even GREATER! Logan already had an animalistic older brother, and he doesn't get a resolution by the end of the book. It's honestly such a massive missed opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the reason we get Wolverine and Sabretooth as siblings was directly because the creators saw that opportunity from the comic and decided to take advantage of it. Their dynamic ended up being the best thing to come out of the movie too if you ask me.
@@exarcoom yeah, I have read that one and it does seem like they took inspiration from it, one of the best things that came from that movie for sure
The filmmakers made a muscle suit to make Liev look bigger than Hugh. He didn't like the idea. So he went and put on enough muscle himself and legitimately became bigger than Jackson. Legend

Imagine if they used Saberthooth as a villain in Logan instead of Logan's clone 😍
he was apparently supposed to be in the movie, but running the casino
I'd love for one of these films to use Albert and Elsie Dee for the villains. That would be so insane!
Should've been Omega Red
At least that's why they made Wolverines clone look like Sabertooth
Too bad he had scheduling conflicts would’ve been great to see old man victor
Visually, Tyler Mane's version was more accurate to the comics, but I cant deny that Liev Schreiber's one is pretty awesome.
I do hope Schreiber is back in Deadpool & Wolverine, just with a comic accurate look.
I can’t believe Liev Schreiber’s Sabertooth becomes Tyler Mane’s Sabertooth, I wish they’d edit the 2000 film with Liev Schreiber in place of Tyler Mane like Army Of The Dead having Tig Notaro digitally replace Chris D’Elia
@@ytuser_3122 the way I always justified it in my own personal head cannon is that they're two separate characters. I don't think that they ever actually call Leiv Schreiber's character Sabretooth. He was Victor Creed. I THINK that Tyler Mane's version was referred to as Victor like one time, but he could still be anybody. Victor Von Doom...Victor Fries...Victor Zsasz...Victor Stone..
...wow! There sure are a lot of comic book characters with the first name Victor! Which actually helps to illustrate my point. So...yay!
Same thing could be said about Jackman's version of Wolverine. A lot of people hate him because he is not comic accurate. They could have gotten any other actor in the world who has a comic accurate appearance, but Jackman is undeniably a great actor and fully embodied the character of Logan. For me he is one of the Holy Trinity of comic book movie castings alongside Heath Ledger's Joker and RDJs Iron Man.
Rumor is Lieb Shreiber is playing him but looks like Tyler Mane's version, and his appearance is the result of further mutations.
Despite the movie's flaw, I still have happy memories for this movie
Same, and “Deadpool” didn’t bother me because I never considered that Deadpool, that’s weapon 11

Unpopular opinion. Had they not added that Deadpool plot twist at the end, the movie wouldn’t have been so bad
very unpopular opinion. the only kind of good thing in the movie is the time lapse intro.
100%
Yeah I don't learn my taste in films from the internet. It was an absolute banger that most other X-Men films besides Logan do not even come close to.
People waste the whole thing over its unique take on Deadpool as if it's a blasphemy or something.
@@fractalicflow It's objectively higher quality in every aspect than the majority of other X-Men movies put together.
No it was garbage and that was the final insult.
I pray to Christ Liev Schreiber somehow returns in Deadpool & Wolverine. Imagine seeing him standing with Tyler Mane.
Nah. I want Schreiber's Sabretooth stand alongside Deadpool 2's Omega Red.
The man is too old.have u seen him in that series where he's some kind of lawyer or shit like that.hes gone.
One would think there are better things to ask christ...but then one would think that requests like that wouldn't be on christ's agenda.....but maybe christ would take an interest, being an xman himself, one of the original heavy hitters of the universe...if i was to pray to a fictional diety, i'd ask for something like the ability to cure every disease, grant eternal life, be able to time travel and have infinite physical and mental powers, and set myself up as an indispensable god on earth, selling my services to only the richest criminals on the planet...once owning the earth, I'd consider other options. You might consider a better wish if you get a chance to ask god for something.
@@daverenick5830 I'd settle for curing disease.something breaks my heart seeing sick people in any form or shape.
@@daverenick5830 Why would you want to sell your services to only the richest criminals on the planet?
I feel that X-24 was a homage/reference to Origins Sabertooth, given that his design is the buzz cut, minimal, black clothed style that Victor had in Origins.
Logan seeing a version of himself that he could've become, had he embraced the ruthless and animalistic side that his brother always wanted him to embrace.
X-24 feels more like a fusion of Logan and Victor.
I always thought this was the case, whether it was intentional or not. This is the embodiment of the “animal” that victor refers to. Non human, just savage.
While X-24 can be seen as an embodiment of Logan’s animalistic nature without the mind or will to contain it, X-24 can also serve as a fusion of that concept with the savagery in their shared nature Victor embraced.
To a degree, X-24 is even worse than Victor, a genuine animal, an organic machine like looks like a human, but is little more than an attack dog used by Dr. Rice, while Victor was fully conscious of his malevolence but normalized it due to his traumatic past as an abuse victim by his father and the various wars he and his brother survived.
He’s the weapon Stryker wanted to turn Logan, but he is also Logan not just without a true personality or identity of his own, but without his capacity to reflect on the brutality he’s often engulfed in, the remorse that separated him for Victor.
the way i see it, X-24, is the Wolverine shadow that Hugh Jackman has been trying to escape from typecasting
Should have had Logan mistake X-24 for Victor until he saw his own face looking back at him.
@@TimedRevolvernah I don't think they can pull that off convincingly. Liev and Hugh have noticeably different body proportion, with Liev being naturally broader while Hugh is much leaner
Honestly I think it was a missed opportunity not to bring Schreiber back in Logan, instead of the X-24 clone, just have that be Sabretooth, Wolverine’s greatest rival, it would’ve worked perfectly.
I’m still holding out hope he’s in D&W, I mean they’re bringing back Kelly Hu’s Lady Deathstrike, Jason Flemyng’s Azazel, Ray Park’s Toad & even Dania Ramirez’s Callisto, surely Jackman & Reynolds would want Schreiber back.
apparently he was supposed to be the owner of the casino which is the reason why they go there
I wish they skipped X-23 in favor of an R-rated X-23 vs Daaken movie
If saber tooth killed Logan then x23 kills saber tooth?

I definitely think Leiv was the best version of Sabertooth we've had on screen. He's such a great actor.
They did Liev dirty.
I think it was Ryan stupidly dismissing Wolverine Origins as a whole hust because of that awful version of Deadpool in there.
@@Kacpa2 I can see how that would leave a sour taste in his mouth.
My head canon is that they are the same Sabretooth. I kind of just told myself after getting older Sabretooth just got too animalistic where he got some form of dementia or something and doesnt remember Wolverine is his brother,
Or just devolved too animalistic to care.
Probably not at all true but again just how i chose to justify it.
I remember being so confused after watching origins as a kid considering what happens in the future where sabertooth doesn’t address or act like Logan is his brother. I came up with a similar head cannon to explain that too
@@noahjohn2001I think after the events of X-Men Origins somehow Stryker got a hold of Victor and conducted some experiments on him to push his limits. That's why he has a more animalistic look compared to what he looked in the 80's. These so-called experiments may have been resulted with memory loss in Victor.
@@cengizhanbozkurt337 good theory, I buy into that too
Yes this is what my brain did to fix the continuity
according to the comics
the adamantium in his bones prevents wolverine's mutation from like getting too crazy and making him like, kinda feral or some shiz
sabertooth never got the adamantium so like
i guess he just progressed or some shit
As bad as origins is I still watch the film. I actually find it entertaining and enjoyable to watch. The scene where wolverine gets chased by the helicopter while he’s riding a Harley is a real stand out to me.
It’s way more fun to find the leaked version w/ the severely incomplete CG 😆… oh man, takes me back
@@hellfish2309is that the version where when Wolverine gets hit by the truck it all turns into gray objects colliding?
Origins fixed what should’ve happened in the comics. Victor and Logan should’ve been half brothers.
no they shouldn't, there was nothing to fix in comics so I don't get what you are talking about
That's the only good thing about the movie, but you're right.

Fun Fact about Wolverine Origins: the stunt double for Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, was no other than Martial Arts action star Scott Adkins.
He actually talked about this movie and how tmhe hated how they protrayed Deadpool in the showdown.
Sabretooth was one of the best part of Wolverine Origins. Plus, the war monologue was incredible.
I fully get why they didn’t have this Sabertooth in Logan (feels like it would’ve been too much of an X-Men apocalypse style side quest), but I will be heart broken if he isn’t in Deadpool and Wolverine. I think you can totally have both versions of Sabertooth present in the story they seem to be telling.
Wolverine and Sabertooth have been implied to be related for more than 40 years of comcis. whether its step brothers, balf brothers, cousins etc. But Sabertooth being Wolverines dad is a retarded idea
I mean we already know who Wolverine's dad actually is so.
@@adambump5297 is it Thomas Logan?
2:47
He doesn't try to kill Wolverine, He beats Him within One inch of His Life just to Prove He could.
Have they confirmed it's actually the wrestler guy? Because it could be Liev in a more comic accurate design. The best of both worlds.
As a kid I assumed that offscreen sabertooth offered himself up to a weapon x esc program in an attempt to get stronger after the humiliation of not being able to carry the adamantium but the experiments caused him to turn animalistic and have a more primal brain akin to what happened to beast. The writers probably didn’t think about this as nearly as hard as this though considering we are talking about origins wolverine 😂
my guess is he went through a an evolution that made him more animalistic. it was probably supposed to happen to wolverine too but the adamantium prevented that
Well to be fair, classic Sabertooth from Clairmont's 80s run was very animalistic and very sadistic. He would have no issue killing the entire X-man team just to fuck with Logan, and he could absolutely do that. His power level in classic variant is actually OP.
Toad, Blob, and Sabertooth have always been my favorite "bad" mutants in the xmen franchise. For the good guys it's always been Nightcrawler.
You have a type lol
X men origins Wolverine was one of my childhood movies, and Sabertooth TERRIFIED me there. For sure one of the underrated comic book movie villains.
Logan and Sabertooth being brothers makes even more sense because in the comics Logan is to him a replacement for the little brother he abused since he is a sadist and after so many years of being chased by him there is a certain bond to them
I recently watched origins and I have to say that despite all its issues it is very fascinating in a way. In the way that I find Catwoman fascinating, there is something so interesting in the era they came out in. Its really hard to explain but the filmmaking and story are so dated they are so much fun.
A supperhero film that tried not to look like a superhero film
13:54 Well, Logan does not technically take place in the same universe as X-1, since it is set in the failed utopia we see at the end of DoFP.
Schreiber's Sabertooth was the single highlight of that dumpster fire of a movie. If they had made Origins solely about Logan and Creed's rivalry it would've been infinitely better but they decided to easter egg the ish out of it and the movie suffered for it.
That movie also showed us how great Ryan Reynolds is at portraying Wade Wilson, though we wouldn't get a proper Deadpool until 2016
@@Richtofen-gy9cjAnd gave us the greatest frienemy relationship since Prof X and Magneto: Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds.
It’s mad how some of the worst X men movies still have some absolute gold in them that make them watchable like Quicksilver
My only regret about the upcoming MCU X-Men is that the Fox cast (except Kelsey Grammer thanks to CGI Beast) will never get the chance to do their characters justice.
While I’ve always liked XMen origins: Wolverine, I can recognize its flaws (I think Filmento covers most of it well). But Liev Schreiber absolutely killed the role of Sabertooth, and he became my favorite villain after that movie. His whole character from his behavior to his lines to his style are all so badass and I’ve wanted to cosplay him since I was a kid, I just can’t grow the sideburns fully yet 😆
Damn. I'm disappointed too. The Sabretooth from the first film isn't the Sabretooth I know from the comics. Liev Schreiber's take on the character was FAR more recognizable as the character.
I only found out Cassandra Nova exists a few days ago, completely unrelated to Deadpool and Wolverine, and now i find out she's going to be the villain in the movie. That's a neat coincidence
X-Origins Wolverine is not a bad movie, it is a comedy, and I love it for everything it has to offer lol.
Fun fact: They were gonna make Sabertooth we saw in first X-Men film as clone Sabertooth in Origins Wolverine before they scrapped.
This was my first time ever seeing sabretooth. Never knew that they originally weren’t brothers
" scream for me." "You owe me a scream" are the most horrifying and sabertooth lines ever.
A couple of things:
Totally agree that Liev Schreiber should have returned somewhere in Logan. The haircut of the clone that killed Professor X in Logan showed me that at least someone thought as well about Sabretooth for a minute for the final Wolverine movie.
I also kind of hope that Liev Schreiber and Taylor Kitsch might return somewhere in the new Deadpool movie or somewhere down the line as Sabretooth and Gambit once again. They both were right for their roles. They just happened to be surrounded by a movie that was absolutely, utterly shit.
Sabertooth: once a year, it's on sight.
Ever since disney bought fox ive grown to miss the Fox X-Men movies
You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone!
@@FullFatVideos yes very true man
My favorite part for sure was the opening war sequence. But I also loved how we saw little bits of Origins in the Days of Future Past scene in Logan’s mind, like his claws getting broken. That movie is great because it builds on all of the movies, even using the bad ones.
" You owe me a Scream" line is very Dark actually.. Insinuating alot of things that he could do to her in order to make scream..
Lines like that is the reason why Byran Singer is ....
Dark does not automatically equal good. Also thinking something dark in a film means the creators mean it is a stupid implication for film in general, and nothing to do with Singer’s crimes
Sabretooth was the best part of this film. In the comics he’s one of the few villains that really unnerved me (is anybody remembers the Deadpool, Weapon X storyline, you know what moment I’m talking about). And Schreiber perfectly incapsulated that version. More so than nearly any live-action Marvel or DC villain, you can VERY easily believe he’d do the most monstrous actions on the planet with the smile on his face.
I even LOVED Wade Wilson (pre-Weapon XI), as it’s probably the only time we’ll get to see Ryan Reynolds play the sadistic supervillain Deadpool he was in his earlier comic appearances.
Those smiles Wade & Victor give before massacring the African village always make start to snicker with unease.
Despite still being hilarious, I’ve never seen Ryan be so creepy
This Victor's personality with the appearance of Sabretooth in the first X-Men live action film=Perfection.
Wolverine and Sabertooth as Mario and Luigi pleases me in ways I can’t explain.
Sabertooth as Wolverine's brother just adds to birthday hunts. On one hand, you have this dude who's so petty that he goes out of his way to remember your birthday and hunt you down each year because you share the same power. On the other, you have an annoying older brother who shows up on your birthday every year just to "lil bro" you.
Its a shame we never got to see Liev Scheiber back in the role over the yrs. One of my favourite x men characters and he became that in one of the worst movies lol
I thought they implied that Sabertooth was his half brother in the Wolverine: Origins comic. Or, did I misremember that?
I agree that Wolverine's memory being lost as something that had to happen because of continuity as opposed to being a foundation to his character was kind of a shame. It would have been interesting if Wolverine volunteered for the Weapon X program to intentionally lose his memory. Maybe years of war, depression, PTSD and loved ones passing as he lived took a toll on his mental state and he takes Strykers offer to rid him of his memories because suicide isn't an option. It would explain why in the sequels Professor X denies telling him about his past. It's not that he can't find his memories, it's that he knows they were lost for a reason.
Kind of crazy that he was only in one movie tbh. His performance was so good I didn't realise it was only one. Now that's aura baby
You know X-Men Origins: Wolverine is especially bad when the movie tie in game by Raven Software is So Much Better.

Leiv Schreiber is certainly the sexiest Sabertooth, dayum. He should come back, 100%.

My friends still laugh at me, but I don't care, I love this movie's rendition of Gambit! They can't get over the really bad editing of the fight scene (how'd he suddenly get all the way up on the rooftops?!), but that's hardly the actor's fault, he did what he was supposed to do, capture the essence of Remy LeBeau, and did it great! Assuming he still looks the same and is available, I'd love to see him come back for more under MCU control (I can't believe people wanted to see Van Damme as Gambit just because he speaks French, come on...)
It's a fine short Wolverine film if you turn it off when he jumps down the waterfall.

@@Agentsmithwasright There is just so much nonsense in the 3rd act.
Liev Schreiber's Sabertooth actually felt like a threat, not just a mindless grunt
This made me nostalgic for x men origins of all films, just to see more of Schreiber’s Sabertooth 🙃
Typically every bad movie, has one good thing about it
One random problem I have with this movie is that lightbulb guy. Why not make an honest living as an electrician or something instead of living in a trailer at a carnival and making like two bucks an hour
Both sabertooth and Gambit were quite good in that movie
First it was the importance of dogs in the John Wick movies, then it was Ilsa Faust being the coolest character of the Mission Impossible franchise, and now it's how awesome and underrated Liev Schreiber is as Sabertooth. I'm not so sure I like agreeing with Full Fat Videos this often.
i can imagine this movie not having any actual actors in it lol.. just flash back and cut scenes with deadpool and wolverine inserts .lol
If I am not mistaken, at one time, was it not the actual process of being fused with the adamantium that had messed his memory up? The pain and healing process drove him crazy, and hence, feral. That makes WAY more sense than..what we got. That said, this version of Sabertooth was freaking epic, if most of the rest of the movie was terrible. I want more of his Sabertooth and have wanted it from the moment I finished the movie. Also wanted more of Ryan as Deadpool....and at least that happened!
Tyler Mane as Sabretooth from X-Men 1 is iconic in my opinion
It has always been clear to me that Wolverine and Sabertooth were meant to he related in some way but no writer could actually commit to it anf the mystery had beem built up so much they decided to "subvert" it by revealing there IS no relation.
I recall part of Lievs inspiration for his performance was large cats at the zoo, he said about looking into their eyes and knowing their predatory instinct, a look of ‘if it weren’t for these bar you’d be dead’
I’d say he completely portrayed that feeling, he looks so damn predatory and hungry
Daniel Radcliffe, IDK when you became a RUclipsr, but I respect your career decision and your effort on this vid.
I wanted Omega Red in a movie but his weakness is extreme cold but that would require Iceman or Storm to help Wolverine fight him.
A Wolverine tv series based on his origins and his time throughout the different wars with Sabartooth serving as his arch nemisis and the bane of his existence. Having similar vibes to the classic monster movies such as Frankansteins Monster, The Wolfman and Dracula (with a more upbeat modern adaptation ofc). Now thats something I would want to watch.
Also just to add on, towards the finale you can have Wolverine finally joining the x men
Here I was yesterday thinking about how awesome this portrayal was in that movie. Great video. I’m just crossing my fingers for Liev to appear somewhere in Deadpool and Wolverine
I hope so!
I fell in love with this version of character. Feeling that he will not in the upcoming movie is unpleasant
Even in the comics both of them have periods where they’re just half naked and living in the jungle or forest for whatever reason.
As you say maybe Sabretooth did it for too long and became more animal than man.
Liev Shriber was comic accurate as his character looked exactly like that in the comics at the time. He's also the correct height as Tyler Mane is actually too tall.
Originally Wolverine lost his memory to the sheer binding process of the adamantium was so painful that it caused him to get amnesia, as well the many different experiments that weapon x did to him and even Sabertooth in the comics
I'm so glad youre still making videos!
Thank you!!!
I appreciate the writing of these video. A lot of comic videos tend to be rambly and often stray off topic. I felt like you did a good here
Victor: you took EVERYTHING from me!
Logan: I don’t even know who you are.
The X-men origins intro is 10 times better that the actual movie. lol
Sabretooth is a top 10 SuperVillain in the Marvel Universe. Sabretooth is one of the few street level villains tht defeats Batman in a random encounter, no prep or knowledge
I disagree
Liev Schreiber is definitely my all-time favorite Sabertooth. He was truly menacing in the light blub guy's trailer, ferocious during the wars and great acting throughout. I really like the first half of that movie, after Wolverine gets the adamantium the wheels fall off, but Liev saved what he could. I'd love to see him in DP3 but if he doesn't fit maybe Director Colcord's Weapon X would. I know, kinda pie in the sky thinking but stranger things have happened
Tyler main is actually comic book accurate. Looking to the size and build of sabertooth in the comics. The problem with what's his name Lev Shriver is he was never comic book accurate and one thing about Deadpool is that they stick close to the comics unless is Domino.
Origins holds a weird place in my mind. I was not a fan of X1 and X2 when they came out, so I was already used to things being wrong by the time X3 and Origins came out and just enjoyed the ride of the good bits they had (for X3, I actually liked how they handled Phoenix besides Scott getting shafted). Even with a lowered bar, Origins didn't have much going for it, but I liked the little "arc" Deadpool had of being Stryker's ideal soldier and getting lobotomized to better fit that role (as well as it being just one more inhumane thing Stryker did to people he served with to add to the bleakness of the ending) and Schrieber's Sabretooth was GOLD! The opening credits PERFECTLY set up Sabretooth's trademark bloodlust and disregard for life without needing a single word and his personality was just spot-on for the brutal, but cunning sociopath who enjoys every bit of harm he causes others. It boggles my mind that I didn't start liking the X-Movies until First Class, but Sabretooth was PERFECTED in the series' uncontested low-point.
Sabretooth should be the cunning monolith of barely contained rage who is a mega shit talker
Lets have a separate r rated movie titled wolverine vs sabertooth. How about it?
I remember an animated episode of something where spiderman is fighting the same villain that wolverine is trying to fight by pure coincidence and then they fight eachother over a misunderstanding until Juggernaut in a trench coat newspaper and hat disguise appears out of nowhere because he thought he was found out. Also Spiderman and Wolverine swap bodies as the main plot of the story but i cant find it anywhere
Liev Schreiber could still be in Deadpool and Wolverine.
I actually really liked X-Men Origins Wolverine with the exception of what they did to Deadpool at the end
Liev has a weird likeable but can snap your neck at any second vibe to hm and thats why he was so great at sabretooth
I always had a Soft Spot on Origins Wolverine and aside of its Flaws and Liberties, Sabertooth was one of its Best Additions that I wish he returned in Deadpool and Wolverine.
Bradley: I'm not afraid of dying.
Sabertooth: How do you know? You've never tried it before.
Films are not held back by PG 13 ratings. It's like we suddenly forgot that films can be mature and brutal without showing a waterfall of gore.
THIS!!!!!
*Tyler's version is the more accurate to the animated series and the comics, but Liev had the opportunity to explore the character more than Tyler, what if this version is a combined version of both character, and Liev is playing that character but with the looks of Tyler, and if not, then Tyler can portray the character the way Liev did*
One of my favourite mcu hero adaptations next to
Mark Raffulo (Hulk) is
Liev Shriever ( Sabretooth).
If you had Liev back in the actual Sabretooth outfit but a bit more hairy and Jackman in the outfit with the cowl it would be perfect.
Many nerds have analyzed that Sabertooth would’ve actually survived an adamantium fusion. Striker just denied him access, and Sabertooth wasn’t sure if he was lying or serious. At that very moment, it wouldn't have made sense strategically for him to attack Striker.
I think it’s way more interesting if Stryker is telling the truth
Why wouldn't he be able to survive it? He also has a healing factor. What am I missing here?
I kinda wanna see liev do a sabertooth movie, correcting the timeline.
Essentially, it's just the end of Deadpool. But I still think it needs to happen.
