Yes and No... He was a very fast, creative, energetic player when he was with the Leafs... a real threat on the Penalty Kill, with loads of breakaway Short Handed Goals. He just needed the right line mates on a talented team that could light him up !

If you would have told me that an NHL player could glide to the net on the PP totally untouched - let alone not getting 3 crosschecks in the back along the way - I would have said they'll ALL get 50. Not saying better or worse ... just saying. That path was UNAVAILABLE not that long ago.

It’s not crazy. Look at the history of guys who hit crazy numbers playing with guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman, Sakic, Lindros, Forsberg etc etc. They go from 50 goal scorers to 15-25 without that elite playmaker beside them.
Look at Ovi this year. He’s always been a 40-60 goal guy and without a decent linemate, he might get 30 this year.

I’ve been the biggest Hyman fan since he but on an Oilers jersey. I love him for his insane work ethic and perseverance. He truly gives it his all every single game and it’s so entertaining to watch. And even after all of that, I never thought Hyman would ever get 50.
