Most GMs and owners already have in mind the coach they want and therefore the type of coach they want. The less you fit that preconceived notion, the less likely you are to stand a real chance of ever getting the job. Having said that, clearly the head coaches that get the job see the value in Sam Cassell, because he keeps getting jobs as an assistant.
