      @mattcridd2 13 часов назад +535

Exactly! If someone you loved told you they have been drinking all day every day for years, and have been "functioning just fine", you'd still hold an intervention for them. Why do we think it's fine for people to be daily smokers, but not daily drinkers?
You're still getting intoxicated every day, and that's not healthy, physically or mentally.

    • @marigolden_mariposa
      @marigolden_mariposa 13 часов назад +407

@@mattcridd2well, you can't act as if they're the exact same because they're not. alcohol poisoning leads to death but you literally cannot overdose on cannabis... they cause different outcomes, alcohol often leading to aggression, violence (including domestic violence), and drunk driving accidents. weed smoking usually does the opposite of making you violent and belligerent.
yes, they both need to be respected and used in moderation and people need to take care of themselves overall, but that doesn't mean you can simplify it down that far to them being basically the same thing if used daily.
I know plenty of daily weed smokers that have normal, productive, happy lives. it is literally not at all the same thing as drinking everyday, so your comment is such a false comparison.
yes, there can be problems and drawbacks, but it's ridiculous that weed is the one that's illegal while alcohol is not, when it's very clear by the basic statistics that alcohol causes more problems in society and leads to more suffering and death than weed ever could... whereas weed can potentially help with a myriad of medical conditions like anxiety, depression, seizures, chronic pain, nausea, etc.
decriminalize and legalize it federally, and regulate it, invest in rehab/health measures, and study it thoroughly with rigorous scientific testing. it's not that complicated.
in general I don't want the government telling me what I can and can't do with my body and that includes what drugs I put into it. it's my basic freedom to take the risks for myself.
It would be more safe if it was regulated, because people will do it whether it's legal or not, prohibition doesn't work.

I quit weed a few months ago. I was smoking all day every day for 5-6 years and it eventually started to feel like I was turning my brain to a pile of mush and my tolerance is shot, I can’t enjoy any anymore basically. If I do get a high, it’s short lived in comparison and just isn’t *fun* anymore. It’s a REALLY good idea to stop as soon as you can. I went cold turkey and was relatively okay, tho it felt like my withdrawals lasted months instead of weeks, but that could’ve just been in my head.
All this to say I see you, I hear you, I relate, and I wish you the best on your journey friend! You aren’t alone.

Thank God someone finally is speaking about the physical withdrawal symptoms. I grew for years. I started smoking when I quit heroin in my late twenties. Before that I didn’t smoke much, up until around the age of about 27.
I quit at age 36. I was having severe memory impairment. I still have issues, though they’re better and it’s only been about a month and a half since I quit. I went through severe physical withdrawal. I was smoking a lot, about a 1/4 a day. Take it as you will. I quit heroin, severe psych meds over the years, been on and off benzodiazepines throughout my life so I’m well versed in withdrawal symptoms. I had severe depression, anxiety, constant sweating, chills and cold sweats at night, nightmares, runny nose like I was quitting dope or benzodiazepines. It was ROUGH. Now every one has a different body chemistry, and I’m sure my use patterns were on the higher end, I smoked joints like they were cigs and was always high. But I went through very severe and very REAL withdrawal. Weed does become physically addictive. Anything psychoactive you put into your body on a daily basis will cause some changes as your body adapts to not having it when you quit. But weed withdrawal is very real, and its addictive properties are as well. I get cravings in the same way I did for heroin after I quit that. Not as powerful of a pull, but definitely still powerful and something REAL.

This year my mother went from a healthy, bright person to not knowing who I was, and then to her grave in the space of six months. As the dementia took her I watched my dad’s heart break. My weed vape, which i hit the odd evening, was all of a sudden a huge crutch for me. It really helped, it put this thin barrier between me snd the horror and it helped me be useful instead of a sobbing mess.
After the funeral though I decided to quit for a while to get a healthy relationship back with weed. Emotion hit me like a train and I experienced true deep depression for the first time in my life. A cautionary tale that if you mask grief/pain it does not go anywhere. My Dad and I used to smoke together. He died of lung cancer. I knew full well that I desperately had to stop... It took over 5 years of fighting with myself to finally break the cycle. One of the major things that always pushed me back were the vivid dreams following quitting. Sleeping became like work. Dreams were so real it felt like I hadn't slept at all. I'd always wake up with some new cryptic message to try and decode. Now that I'm past it the initial drawbacks, I feel so much more comfortable in general. Every long term user should quit for at least a few months so they can learn who they are without it. I have a feeling most would refrain from returning to it.

I needed this honesty. I'm in the 10%; addicted, using it every day, pretty consistently, with high THC levels. And of course, every time I try to quit, those nasty withdrawal symptoms are very real, and I feel awful for 3 or 4 days, and I don't really feel 'great' until I make it more than a week - which is rare when the weed brings me all the good feelings right away. The only upside is that I started in my early 20s, and not my teen years, so the developmental damage should be less damaging - though the long term damage is definitely still there as I know I have no motivation and terrible memory problems. This video is a big motivator to heavily cut down, thank you for the science.

As a long time everyday, all day smoker (10+ yrs), I quite literally cannot sleep more than 2 hours without it, I wake up every morning with enough phlegm in my chest to drown a child, and I am extremely socially awkward at times even amongst friends, and I never used to be. Probably the worst part of all though, is that I am hyper-aware that my cannabis use is responsible for the majority of the negatives in my life, and I can't seem to be able to bring myself to stop for more than a couple of days without going insane. I'm preparing a mix while watching this video to keep my brain busy. 😢

I started smoking weed when I was 15. I’m 28 now. In a few short years l’ll have smoked for longer in my life than not. It reminds me of my grandpa who we used to always scold for smoking cigarettes. He would say “it makes me happy” and “I’ve been smoking since I was 16 years old.” I don’t want to be the grandpa that my grandkids will be begging to stop. I still smoke but I’ve definitely reeled it back over the past couple years. The effects have been so obvious - I’m more clear headed, more confident, & more disciplined when I’m sober. I’ve found that my intention going into smoking makes a big difference. When I was younger I would say l’ll never be one of those people who say “I used to smoke weed” or that I grew out of it. But.. as much as I want to deny it, that seems like the path forward if I want to continue to grow and evolve into my best self. Weed helped me escape when I felt trapped in my life, but now that I have autonomy and endless possibilites to explore, it has become an easy way to hide away from that intimidating truth.

As someone who has been smoking almost daily during the summers and not at all the rest of the year, I can attest to many of the things mentioned in the video. By the end of the summer my memory tends to be quite bad and I perceive the prospect of stopping as really boring and every time I wanna keep going even if it has lost all the magic. Then, no more than a month after I quit for Uni, my memory improves, my motivation gets higher and I no longer miss it. And when I do it again next summer it's a much more pleasant feeling. Problem is with lots of free time to kill, I end up overusing it again. I'd like to use it in a more balanced manner but as mentioned in the video, it is truly addicting. I’m a legal medicinal user of cannabis and it stopped me using opiates, and I’m grateful it works so well for me. I live in chronic pain, and without it I cannot function. Moderation and medicalisation is key though - I use it just like a prescription medicine. And I use high CBD and low THC strains - which are so much more available too thanks to legal medical use. I have a great doctor who has tried many different strains and types with me to find the best for my pain, and who treats it just like any other medication - with potential side effects that we work hard to minimise. I’m so glad I can use it instead of opiates, which turned me into a zombie! With cannabis I can be out of bed and living my life all day. I really hope this sort of research continues - it’s so important that it’s treated like any other drug that has a lot of potential side effects, because using that information for utilising and creating better medical strains for specific purposes has been very helpful for people like me!

It's sad how what you say can be true, but so many people completely omit the last 1/3 and treat it as if it's some sort of
      Wonder Drug.
Yes it has some effective medicinal qualities, and can help people with physical and mental issues, but it is also addictive, with an odor that lingers and gets carried by the wind easily, and can cause great discomfort even to those not actually smoking it.
It should be moderated and restricted to certain areas, just like smoking - not the "anytime, anywhere, as much as you'd like" solution that so many advocate for.

@@kimeojin1234 It's mostly because the people who are presenting it as this problem-less drug are those who don't have a sufficient understanding of how it works-- it's a cultural change in perception more than anything. We still don't rag people for smoking cigarettes in public though second-hand is objectively worse from tobacco. Similarly, the wide access gives it to everyone, and in this big pendulum swing of acceptance, lack of info and response are rampant. Like the original commenter, I use it medically but with a higher level of understanding of my relationship and function with it. I have chronic pain after breaking my spine, and a history with opiate addiction, so I refuse any high-level painkillers. Weed has its benefits, and its downsides like anything. The "Wonderdrug" pitch is one we've seen from opiates themselves to tobacco being doctor-prescribed, vapes are still up in the air-- we just live in a time where everything changes so fast that a lof of people get lost in the big general shifts and lose the knowledge to navigate and understand it responsibly. That's not even considering that there are always billion dollar industries behind these things with their own rhetoric and capacity to influence common perception.

I had only smoked weed a handful of times as a teenager, over a decade later though I began smoking for fun with friends which eventually turned into a daily habit. I've been smoking daily for 2 years now, this video helped me realize that a lot of the personal issues/problems I've been dealing with this year are most likely caused by marijuana.. constantly depressed, anxious, suicidial thoughts, no energy, no creativity, no attention span, and a lack of motivation to go to work.. whenever I've tried taking a break I just can't help myself from not smoking at the end of the day. I was so depressed yesterday.. I couldn't even bring myself to leave the bed. Quitting now seems more viable than before I watched this video, I finally feel the slightest enthusiasm for becoming who I was before this all started. Thank you.

I'm a stoner and I really appreciate this video and your cautious thorough language. I've met a lot of people who believe complete myths about drugs, and weed is close to the top for misinfo. People flat out reject any purported side effects and treat it like an actual miracle drug. "If you had any negative effects it's cause of you not the plant." and other such drek, ignoring that as with any drug the effects don't simply change, they're potentiated or reduced by your anatomy. If a drug causes heart attacks in someone but not you, it's not because it doesn't affect your heart, it's because your heart has thusfar withstood the damage.
It also irritates me that it's treated as a cure for literally everything, some even alleging that it treats their ADHD. An effect I've heard many allege, but I've never once seen demonstrated. It's always possible someone has very specific brain chemistry imbalances that weed attenuates, but that'd be very rare. Instead what I've seen is people saying it helps, then their behavior proves that it makes their symptoms worse across the board. I think it makes them feel better and in some cases emboldens them to do thinks they otherwise wouldn't want to like unclog a sink, and then they attribute that to weed helping their focus. Something that you could just as easily claim is true of heroin.
For the record I have ADHD and it doesn't help at all.

this video was so necessary! i am a recovering weed addict (even when i say it it sounds funny), i smoked everyday for 2+ years and i’ve been clean for 2 months now. in the beggining weed did wonders in my life, it allowed me moments of socialization and diving deeper into my own feelings, helping me understand myself and heal. it really made me a better person.
but with time, it started to slowly eat away my life. sometimes i would feel ill or anxious and knew weed would worsen the symptons, but i smoked anyway. i felt like a puppet, i couldn’t control my hands from reaching for my stash and rolled a joint without even thinking. then just as the video says, it became a remedy and a culprit for loneliness. i would feel lonely and smoke, but that also made me more anxious to go out and socialize.
also, i would do nothing most of the time. smoking weed and staring into the ceiling was just fine. i would never feel bored. it was some quick and easy dopamine instead of pursuing some actual fun activity, like going out or playing sports, hell even playing video games.
the moment i decided it was enough was when i started missing my master thesis deadlines because i would always prefer smoking to anything. i was going to fail my degree i worked so hard for because of weed! the first few weeks were hard but i am back to normal now.
i do miss it though :( i really hope i am able to enjoy weed in moderation in the future. so my message is: enjoy weed but be careful!!!

I cut back and when I did a lil hit after playing a round of games when I came back inside I asked my lil brother to watch over me with a phone ready to record because no one has ever seen me go through it and I got shakes lucky I didn't have another seizure. Started smoking heavy because I wanted to escape from life's troubles/emotions. After these 2-3 years I understood that these troubles will only truly dissapear once I face them, smoking only conceals these troubles, doesn't solve them. If anyone's reading, once you control your smoking habits you will control your life much better. It's not easy to just quit, so let's all just try our very best and take the steps needed. love

I used to work at a dispensary so I was deep into weed culture and was very supportive of it. Even then, when I considered myself a stoner, I still wouldn’t use it more than once every week or two, despite always wanting to. That was because the experiences I had when I kept my tolerance as low as possible were unmatched by anything I felt from chronic usage. I wish more people would see it this way too.

HUGELY much needed topic that needed to be covered! I only have personal anecdotes but heavy weed use nonstop for 2 years developed a social anxiety disorder within me. Talking, thinking, reading and socializing became incredibly difficult and I withdrew into a shell of my former self as a result. I felt like I had lost my spark and personality and turned me from someone extremely social to one that was very afraid of social interactions. Whatever people said, my mind couldnt process with enough speed to facilitate normal conversation and this made social interactions awkward and difficult. I always felt like people were looking at me and judging me; body movements that once felt natural felt forced and unnatural.
At the time, I just kept going because I felt like I could quit at any time (i didnt feel addicted), and I also underestimated weed (and many other drugs). It was my time of exploring drugs and all I was curious about was pushing limits and seeing how high I could get / different combinations of drugs.
Anyway this sort of mindset and lack of respect towards drugs has led to myself having to live my disorder for the rest of my life. It has been a very hard 5ish years but im slowing learning to live with it and figure out ways to be at peace with myself and my anxiety.
One thing ill note for sure is that after quitting weed, alot of the long term symptoms feel like they are slowly reversing and over the past couple years I have felt more myself than ever since I started smoking.
Im not saying this will happen to everyone/trying to demonize drugs, since I know many of my stoner friends have different experiences. Ive also had the most intense, amazing, fun and unforgettable moments on drugs.
But just dont underestimate weed (or psychadelics) just because they are "physically safe". The psyche is a very fragile thing and every time u take a drug that is psychoactive, ur playing a game of russian roulette whether u know it or not. You may be the unlucky few percent that has to have their life changed for the worse forever. Its a risk you have to be willing to take so keep monitoring how your body and mind feels to it and prioritize that over fun.

Always a banger video at Kurzgesagt. Thank you guys!
Watching this video is really influencing me to attempt to quit again. When I was only 12 my mom is the first person who introduced me to Cannabis. I was smoking heavier and heavier as the years have passed, I was pretty much high for half of middle school and all of high school. I'm 20 now and I'm to the point where I smoke everyday, and when I don't the hardest part for me is the boredom they talked about when your brain isn't being dulled for hours. It's so frustrating for me because I feel like I wasn't able to choose this for myself, I'm ready to choose for myself... I think its definitely a drug that can really inhibit your life and relationships... sadly a lot of this video I relate with. I hope as time passes more conversation surrounds both the negative with the positive. As well as how many young people do get exposed to cannabis far before they are able to understand these consequences. I feel most people don't understand weed can be harmful like this because of how the positives seem to be the only thing most people are educated about. I don't think this means criminalization and I'm really glad society is moving forward because for some people THC helps them live with chronic conditions, but for people like me, and there's a lot of them, they need to be more open to looking at not just the pro's, but the con's as well. This video was truly a wake up call for me.

Since mushrooms are legal right now in Oregon and Colorado (in CO to grow, consume and give away for free is completely legal, and in 2025 will be available in dispensaries or else in small "doctor shops") and it would be great to see more information on them.
I have many friends who smoke, nonstop, all day and all night and none of them seem to have any of the issues described here with thc. In fact, most are legal growers and have great jobs, and they join clubs where they meet all the time to help each other, so it's not anti social all the time with over consumption. To add to the video as someone who had a severe addiction to weed and has since quit, people with ADHD need to be even more cautious as we have a colossally higher rate of addiction to substances and weed in particular can really appear to help.
Also, while there can be a loneliness feedback loop as described in this, another danger is being around other addicts. This will reinforce your usage and give you constant access. If you're addicted and want to quit, cutting out or limiting contact with other huge stoners is a necessary place to start, even if it's really hard.

I second everything in this comment. I'm 28, started at about 13 and smoked daily from 21 until last year when I finally managed to stop. The hardest thing about it was having to leave all my friends behind. Even then, I only really did because they moved onto harder stuff that I always swore to stay away from. Despite how hard it was, I'm happier now than I was when I was smoking heavily---I can now recognise how paranoid, apathetic and scared to be myself I was when I smoked, and how much it impacted my ability to function as a responsible member of society. I'm still struggling with the last part, but it is getting easier as the days go by.
If this sounds like you now, please take this as a sign and do everything you can to stop. Find a hobby or two and meet people who do things other than bond over substances. It could be games, an art, music. Anything. For me it was martial arts, and I'd recommend it because not only does it teach you that discipline and self control that can help you finally drag yourself out of that hole you're in, kicking and punching stuff is fun enough that it barely feels like exercise.
      Good luck to you all.

the problem with this fact that you're not entirely wrong about is that this only proves that everything can lead to addiction including things that are commonly considered healthy like fresh air, water, being in a healthy relationship, and exercise (especially the last one.. i notice most people who love exercising love it more than i like weed)
at that point the question is: in a vacuum, is addiction itself really a bad thing, or is it the thing you're addicted to that's bad?
ironically enough, the first video i saw from Kurzgesagt tackles this topic, and they were forced to delete the video by their investors (which lead to drama, because those same investors paid the channel to make videos on biased topics, which they later apologized for)

Suddenly, I started getting severe panic attacks while/after smoking and I had to stop because it was no longer enjoyable, it was just terrifying. The absolute worst withdrawal symptom was EXTREME boredom, and nothing could entertain me. It wasn't depression, but it's like I was completely incapable of indulging in any stimulation at all. It helps me reset my tolerance as well as gives me time to kind of emotionally check in with myself. A couple times it was a lot harder to cut out, so I made myself stay off it for several months so I could focus on addressing the things I was running away from.

  •  6 часов назад +319

There is a fourth very important factor, perhaps more important than the other three: Stimulus/motivation/reason.
That is, the biopsychosocial and cultural reasons why people smoke.
A person who smokes when they are on the weekend, having fun with friends, taking advantage of a vacation, relaxing at home, or even to get artistic inspiration, has a completely different relationship with marijuana than a person who smokes to distance themselves from the problems they are experiencing, such as risks, violence, financial difficulties, family problems, precariousness of life, etc.
The same goes for alcohol, which can be both a tool for socialization and violence, or even psychedelics, which can cause paranoia or be used to treat post-traumatic stress.
When it comes to drugs, the context and environment make all the difference.

Drug interactions are the uncomfortable elephant in the room. On a whole I've seen that people who use cannabis tend to think "it's a plant, it's natural, so it's healthy!" and are largely unaware that marijuana is a stimulant. It makes you sleepy and could make you a total potato for an afternoon, but cannabis also makes your heart work harder than usual. It is prudent not to mix this with other stimulants that put a strain on your heart, namely a lot of ADHD medications like methylphenidate (ritalin). Navigating these conflicts is how we learn to use cannabis with more safety and informed moderation.

We recently quit (like 2 weeks ago) because we were experiencing EVERYTHING they talk about here. I have noticed a cognitive decline in myself, attention and memory being the most noticeable. The addiction is very real and the withdrawal was ugly but short. We already see a better path for our lives , the social isolation, depression and anxiety is already getting better. I do not believe legalization would have changed this situation for us as it was always very easy to obtain. If this video resonates with anyone who is feeling addicted to weed and have been considering quitting, rip the band aid off and do it. Thank you for this video.

I smoked so much during my youth and into my twenties, and it definitely impacted my life. After a long break I have found a great way of using its benefits with less risks - cutting WAY down on THC and putting a lot more CBD. I highly recommend this for anyone trying to quit but struggling, or realizing the high potency of weed today is impacting their life.

@ I prefer to consume via rollies. I order CBD (nearly zero THC) flower online and it’s very high quality. I then sprinkle in minimal amounts of real THC weed (I try to find ones bellow 20%, lower than 15% is amazing but so hard to find lol). Days I want a little more bang I sprinkle more. It allows you to control the strength.
New studies also show that CBD helps counter many of the negative effects of THC. Stupidly, the high THC strains they developed recently have near zero CBD …

I'm an alcoholic, and I still struggle with it today, but there was a time I was using it heavily almost every day and becoming physically dependent. I turned to THC as a kind of replacement. It put me in a much safer and less destructive state of mind than alcohol, but I was also using it compulsively for the exact same reasons, missed some opportunities, and didn't feel like myself. The strength of it was uniquely uncomfortable... yet an incredibly far cry from alcohol poisoning and withdrawal. I believe it played a role in teaching my lizard brain that, actually, sober is pretty nice. I don't recommend anything I've done, but I kind of saw the light when it comes to how heavily weed is vilified and alcohol is advertised.

Also, one of the only things that shares my opinion is "If you want to try it, there is a time and place." I would just add "have a trusted friend nearby" as well, for a variety of reasons, including having them help with any possible paranoia, just in case something goes wrong, and because it is frequently really hilarious. When I say "trusted" friend, I mean someone who is not going to screw with you. For me, it was my father.

Me and my best friend have been smoking almost everyday for 8+ years since being teens. I have taken a few breaks and then i get back into it and im resonsibile
at first only smoke after work. Than one day on a off day and i feel like shit or im bored i smoke early in the day and that creates a spiral that has lasted almost an entire year.
The part when knowing it has bad consquences but doing it anyways hits hard. I am such an addict when it comes to weed. Everyday has felt like groundhogs day because i go thru the same cycle of convincing myself to smoke because it will make me feel better but all it does is couch lock me.
My friend has a week off of it today, and I am at day 3. I already feel like a different person.
Kurzgesagt hit it right on with the numbing the weed can do to your emotions. I used to be someone who was very passionate about my future and my 10 year plan. But since ive lost control of weed, i used it everyday to make me happy, completely oblivious that im loosing all site of my future.
I hope if theres anyone out there who is struggling with weed addiction, to share your experiences.

I think it does work for people with ADHD, but should be coordinated with a doc and/or therapist. I have been smoking for 10 years and it’s been apart of my adhd regime for almost all of that time. Omg, I'm not sure if this is a positive opinion. As an ADHD and once was a smoker of weed, I became very dependent on it as it numbed all of my pains just like what video said, and made me feel no need to go forward, since getting high made me feel relieved already. My impulse became so so much stronger, which is a huge issue in ADHD. I'm not sure if taking weed for ADHD is that good idea. For those who have behavior impulses, that can be calmed down for sure, but anything else that our cognitive function does gets worse. Even memory. ADHD with even weakened memory? Man, I am not sure what can be caused

I agree with you, in fact I did not find out I had ADD until after I quit smoking weed because I had to start using the VA for medical diagnosis and treatment
Uncle Sam does not like weed so I had to quit, I think it is kinda funny that Uncle Sam had no problems giving me Adderall
I think I was able to cope with my ADD better when I smoked weed because like you said a person can train their mind to do so with a little help from weed
I have found that the Adderall only helps me for part of the day and I can't take too much or I will not sleep, sometimes for days
I never had a problem with sleep when I self-medicated with weed
It took me 30 years to get a Bachelor's degree because I could never complete degree programs but I still ended up with over 430 college hours from five universities and two community colleges
No way I could have done that if weed was a problem, it was the ADD that was the underlying problem
When I got my degree it was in Cyber Security and I would have never been able to get that degree if was not for self-medicating myself with weed
Now that I know I have ADD and I take Adderall I was thinking of starting on a graduate degree
The reason I haven't yet is that a lot of colleges want me to take online courses when I know because of my ADD I do better taking in-person courses
The odd thing is that in a previous job I ran an online learning management system for a university and was able to support hundreds of faculty and thousands of students with no problems
But weirdly I find it much easier to run an online system at work than take an online course for myself

I wish I could say the same. Weed makes my adhd way worse these days. It helps me turn my brain off when things are crazy but sometimes it makes me think even worse thoughts and makes me more confused and unable to focus.
I found that opiates help the most with my adhd. Doing opiates is like magic for me, suddenly allows me to think clearly and calm down. It's very unfortunate that opiates come with a ton of awful side effects that only make things worse in the long run. The best part of my life where I was the most productive and alive was when I had a fentanyl addiction. It helped me socialize, do better at work, be creative and gave me energy, it was wonderful. It also almost killed me and destroyed certain parts of my brain and the withdrawal was a nightmare. Wish I could have only had the positive effects without the negative.

That is something that honestly perpetuates the cycle and enables me to continue feeding my addiction to cannabis. Your perspectives on this have afforded me a new outlook, one where if I work hard enough, I can undo the damage, I can go back. I started at 15. Been pretty much a daily user, in periods quite severe daily use, for well over 15 years. And let me tell you, this video hit like a kick in the nuts.
Being the 1 in 10 who got the worst, who 100% had developmental changes, memory, personality, etc, I can personally say I believe this whole video to be almost completely spot on, bang on the money true. Even the last part where scientists aren´t agreeing yet, I can vouch for it being true. I am not, nor will I ever be the person I was or could have been, without the use of "just a flower bro".
I´m still a user today. I rationalize it as recreational, even though I know its an addiction. I only clicked on this video to watch something while I was rolling. But now, with palms sweaty from how frickin hard all of this just hit, I dunno man. I´ll smoke it, I know that, but.. Maybe it actually, like really, is time to get off my apathetic, lethargic, glutton-for-misery, boredom loving ass and realize the fact that it was only _fun_ back then.

What's done is done. It doesn't mean you're screwed for life. The body is quite resilient and can adapt. You recognise you have an addiction. You need a reset and re-establish your relationship with cannabis. Decrease the usage and then stop altogether for a good long stretch, like 2 months. You will need to find joy in doing things without the high. The body is naturally able to do this, but not under the influence. Do productive things, get busy, it'll pass. After that you can use cannabis again but you must employ strict moderation.

I grew up with a mother severely addicted to cannabis. I was raised in a filthy home with no responsibility, constantly surrounded by the smell of cannabis and fearing for my mother's health, who always had these minute long coughing fits multiple times a day. Her memory was always hazy and seemed to never actually be happy or energised. Though we weren't rich, we were a lot poorer than we had to be because she'd spend hundreds of Euros a month on weed and impulsively ordering food. Her addiction almost cost her her life last year, when she fell down the stairs because smoking and drinking together ruins her coordination. She quit cold turkey after that, which she told me my whole life that she couldn't do, and became an entirely different person for the better.
I recognise that the demonisation of weed in America was more than necessary and that its long term harm was overstated, but the glorification of weed always struck a bit of a sensitive cord with me as someone that actively had a very strained childhood because of it.

I've known about PPS (Permanent Pot Syndrome) for a long time, and I didn't start using THC products until early 2023. I approached it knowing that tolerance can increase, so I adopted a mindset of moderation. Nowadays, while I do use once a day, I limit it to 5mg THC, and so far it seems with my frequency of use, my tolerance seems to have found an equilibrium.
Here is MY OWN experience of the upsides and downsides:
    Upsides:
    * Calmer approach to stressful situations (lower tendency for aggression)
    * Increased level of creativity
    * Pleasant euphoria when learning new things, and putting them into context
    * Increased empathy
    * Increased focus on tasks
    Downsides:
    * Harder to find words sometimes
    * Increased sense of paranoia (I sometimes feel like people are aware I'm acting differently, and are judging me. I typically don't really care what people think about me when I'm sober, so maybe I'm just not aware that it's happening while not using)
    * Increased impulsiveness (can be good or bad, depending on the situation)
The downsides only seem to manifest while I'm under the effects, which I think is a good thing.

@partyboat123 It’s not in a medical dictionary, lol. Just meet someone who has used for years and years at high levels, and compare them to someone who hasn't. PPS is an observation, more than anything.
Ozzy Osbourne is an example of PPS.
My dad has PPS, total hippy vibes.
All I'm saying is there are long-term effects of heavy extended usage.

This video really resonates with me. I started smoking weed at 14, and by 15, I was a daily user. It didn't take long for me to realize that I had become addicted. I tried to quit several times, but I always ended up relapsing. As a kid, I had big dreams of becoming a filmmaker and pursuing other creative passions, but I also struggled with a lot of anxiety and fear. Weed became my escape from the negativity and hardships I was dealing with. It numbed the pain and kept me stuck in my “comfort zone,” even though I was quietly sinking into a deep depression there.
I ended up neglecting my hobbies, interests, friends, and dreams. It even affected my cognitive abilities-I felt like I was becoming dumber, and my memory was shot. Now, at 31, I'm seven months clean, and for the first time in a long time, I truly feel alive. No more depression, less social anxiety, and I’m more in touch with my creative side. I'm actually finishing things now, something I couldn’t do before. Since I stopped smoking, I’m so much happier and excited to work toward my goals and bring my dreams to life!!!! Much love from The Netherlands

18 years ago or so, a close friend in high school started regularly using it at 12-13, he also fell for all of the over-hype about it, even the "it cures cancer" stuff. I've always told him "smoking ANYTHING is bad for you, even campfires" but at the time I didn't have any solid data to counter the claims of cannabis being a major cure-all, so that was that. Now at over 30, he's struggled to hold onto any job for more than a few months (just enough to buy more weed), and as far as I know, most of his friends (at the time) have moved on. Life is REALLY hard for him, and yet he's okay with that because he's high all the time...
I absolutely think there needs to be a lot more education on the negative impacts of starting cannabis at a young age especially. The brain is VERY sensitive while it's still developing. That said, I do partake in edibles a few times a month and find it very helpful. As with everything :upsides and downsides, and we need to talk about both. Thank you for this video.

The biggest impact it's had on me is a direct result of its legal status, not it's effects, and alcohol has affected me much more even though I don't drink nearly as often.

I've been using cannabis for years, and I’d like to share my experience. In the beginning, it was fun-lots of laughter and enjoyment. But after about two years, that faded, leaving behind a dullness and a creeping sense of depression. The biggest takeaway for me was how much it distorts your perception of reality. You start convincing yourself that your beliefs are true, even when they aren’t, and your view of the world becomes skewed.
Over time, I noticed a significant drop in motivation, which made it harder to pursue my goals. This isn’t the case for everyone, but from my observations, I'd say about 95% of people go through something similar. The good news is that after quitting for a few years, you can recover almost entirely-though there are some things you never fully get back.
Is it worth it? That’s for each person to decide, but from my perspective, if I knew then what I know now, I would’ve made different choices.
But we are all smart after the fact.

I'm surprised that CHS wasn't mentioned in this video, as it is an increasingly common effect of heavy use that seems to never get talked about. The worst part (if you really enjoy weed) is that, once you develop CHS, you're stuck with it because it can't be cured. It eliminates any possibility for you to be able to use weed normally again, even on occasion, without experiencing those symptoms again.

Toronto had SARSStock back in 2003 to help boost tourism. 500,000 were at the music festival. I remember talking to a neighbour cop and he was telling me how they confiscated any alcohol people tried to sneak, but when they found pot on people, they ignored it and let them in. In their eyes stoned people were less likely to be violent than those that got drunk. This was before pot was legal in Canada.

Let's not forget that people also use drugs to cope with underlying issues. There's a lot of societal/economic issues that pushes people into drug use. Weed is used for coping for a reason, so i think looking at why people consume drugs is important when talking about addiction. A lot of the time the villification of drugs shifts blame from policy makers that oppress working class people leading them to addiction to cope with the living situation they're in.

I mean, the only way for the next government to roll back legalization is with a CDU-AfD coalition, which is not going to happen.
All other options involve one of the current parties that introduced legalization, and I don't really see them abolishing it if they just legalized it. Well, maybe FDP because they're unreliable af, but chances are they won't be part of the next government.
I suppose technically CDU and AfD could roll back legalization without being in a coalition, but that would not go over well with anyone else, including whoever the CDU *is* in a coalition with.

It took a while to get back to "normal", but by this time the general panic anxiety has gone away. It's a humbling experience and I think it can be good to know that some people don't have the possibility to handle it - like alcohol. I'm still a strong supporter of decrimilization, which I believe will help to prevent these situations imo, together with an overall understanding and respect of the drug.

I tried a SMALL amount of edibles years ago. Our neighbor made chocolate chip cookies with weed. It wasn't bad, but the buzz lasted a lot longer than I wanted it to. Then later, I tried a "gummy". It was just too much. I was stoned like never before and it lasted a good 6-8 hours. I thought I was going to be permanently disabled from that after so many hours and started to worry. Edibles are bad news. As if smoking the new powerful weed isn't bad enough, edibles are far worse. Period.
The absolute worst thing I've ever tried was when someone gave me a packet of the fake weed (forget what they called it). That crap had me so hyped up I thought I was going to die of a heart attack or something.
Getting high is a gamble I'm just not willing to take anymore. I'm finding being straight with a clear mind is the best bet and the most enjoyable. A huge plus is that instead of drowning in problems feeling miserable and getting high to avoid the misery (which doesn't work) it's far superior to be clear minded and come up with actual solutions to problems so they go away completely.

Now that it's as strong as it is, I literally can't have more than 2 good hits without being in space.
I try to buy the strains that are either 50/50 THC CBD, or I just buy CBD flower now and grind it together with the normal bud, and I find that's a decent compromise; plus it keeps me from using it too late at night because it will keep me awake.

    As a former weed addict,
at first you start smoking it feels great and feels like a different way to socialize or spend your free time. But as you start getting addicted everything starts feel like a chore, you begin to care less and less about even the most basic things like washing your face or having a shower, as you develop this kind of behavior you start to lose your social life, your responsibilities and even the people's respect in your life.
If you ask for my advice, if you are going to smoke, smoke it occasionally and with friends that you like to spend your time with.

It was in Canada, and she said at the time that the weed she was smoking was much stronger than she was used to, which was a contributing factor. I don’t use weed in any form, but would do if it was legal in my country. I know plenty of people who haven’t suffered from it like she did, but her story is always a useful reminder to me that it’s not safe in every context for every person. She ended up in a psychiatric hospital after getting increasingly paranoid - I watched her slowly fall apart over the course of a few months and didn’t understand what was happening at the time.

But yeah, it's weird how people still apply double standards to drugs like tobacco and especially alcohol on the one side and other drugs like weed on the other side...

@@comradedeath7399 the issue with contaminated (fent mostly) drugs is that people will always acquire the drug where it's most convenient. If you sell exclusively in a locked down environment, it makes it less accessible. So if a dealer is easier to access than a shop, people will tend to buy from the dealer and OD cases will remain higher than needed. While we don't want to flash substances in front of children, we also don't want contaminated product circulating.

I'm very depressed and have bad anxiety and I don't go out to socialize anymore due to the anxiety. I also shake really badly, hoping it's a side effect and that I can get rid of it. I'm going to give it an honest try and not smoke to see if things get better for me. I've lost interest in so many things, and it's scary thinking about the future cuz I see nothing. I know it's going to be hard, especially at night, but I need my life back.

Cannabis helped me create friend groups when I was isolated and alleviated a lot of depression based issues I had at the time. This is the best video about weed I've ever seen.
I've fortunately never had any addiction problems with alcohol, stimulants etc. but weed had one of the single most negative impacts on my life, to the point that I failed my 2nd year at university because of my addiction to it and it gave me mental health problems I still sometimes struggle with today (depression/anxiety). From the ages of 16-21 years old I smoked it (nearly) every single day, and at my worst was getting through a half-ounce a week. It made me lazy, unmotivated, content with doing nothing (like this video says you somehow find joy in boredom!) and ignore all the things in life I knew I should be getting on with, namely study/work etc. I ate terribly, was horrifically unfit (people always forget you're still inhaling smoke into your lungs which is exactly what they're NOT intended for!) and worst of all eventually became completely dependent on it, to the point where I had to smoke it before EVERY meal (including breakfast) to have an appetite, before bed to get to sleep, before sex to feel aroused, before films/entertainment to find them stimulating, the list goes on...
The best thing I ever did was to quit it, I'm 23 now and am in the best shape of my life and am finally getting my life back on track. It makes you forget about the long term, lose sense of any ambition and most importantly the fact that if you want to achieve something in life you need to work every day to get good at it. The way I got off it was by getting an early-rising job (6am) and getting into sport (swimming/triathlon). Change your lifestyle so it simply becomes impossible to accommodate it anymore.

I am 38 and For 7 Years now I smoked weed at night just about every day (except when sick or on vacation) as part of my nightly ritual before going to bed. I started out fun and liberating but slowly became a yoke around my neck. Before I knew it it was impossible to stop without feeling horrible. I noticed that my memory, motivations, ability to learn, my mood were all in decline and making it harder to be a successful functioning adult. I have been super depressed, anxious, and overall feeling mentally unwell. I only recently started kicking the habit but it is very difficult as the physical effects (especially my blood pressure spiking) is very serious and so I almost need to "ween" myself off the stuff to quit it fully. I am slowly starting to feel better! No one should kid themselves into thinking its not addicting or not harmful, if you disagree then you are in denial.

I smoked for one year when I was 16, there was a guard who worked at a supermarket closed to my school. We would talk everyday and he had a son who was also 16. This guard was a smoker and one day he learned that I had started smoking. He implored me to stop and explaining that it is very addictive, that he could'nt stop himself from smoking. Since I looked up to him so much, I immediately quit. I'm 28 now.

But then you notice that weed is something that is getting you stuck in the first place. So now I don't buy anymore and just smoke veeery occasionally when I meet a friend that also smokes (Around once per month). It's been 4 months since I stopped smoking daily, and life is so much better without it, there is no comparison. The first 2/3 weeks after stoping were the hardest. Feeling depressed and unmotivated. But I can garantee you, if gets better afterwards. Keep strong man :)

Nonsense. Which cultivar did you smoke at night? It is not addictive unless you have an addictive personality. The problem is in you, not cannabis. Stop talking as if everyone has to be having the same experience as you with it. I use almost everyday in moderation, with gaps, and everything is fine. There is depression, anxiety, and so forth. In fact, I just used it to help me get past a cold where I had a nonstop headache for more than a day. Cannabis made me feel a lot better, closer to normal while sick. Then I took a whole bunch of it and finally destroyed that headache. Feeling fine. Cannabis is medicine in the RIGHT hands. You are the wrong hands.

Doctor of Pharmacy here. I don't use cannabis to get high, relax, have fun, etc. I'm AuDHD and use it as a mood stabilizer (measured dose, 2 to 4 times a day as needed). The strain is important, too. Hybrids with 60-70% indica to 30-40% sativa are where my sweetspot effects live. For me, this has worked better than any of the prescription drugs. I made the effort of writing this to shed light on the medicinal side of cannabis. Not everyone uses it for recreation. And medicinal doesn't only apply to cancer, HIV, or chronic pain patients. I drink beer or a nice cocktail on occasion when I want some recreation. Good video overall. Thanks.

For a pharmacist, it's interesting that you believe in the complete myth and nonsense that is sativa vs indica. There is literally no difference. Any argument toward it is outdated and invalid. You can fact check me on the wifi or cellular network you read this comment from.
The miniscule differences between the two will never be enough to make any perceivable difference, and essentially all weed is hybrid.
