“Ulveham” is based on the medieval balled "Møya I Ulveham".
The tune of this ballad is long lost, but Gåte has giving it a new melody.
Like other historical legends and songs it carries an important moral.
The song is a story of young maiden that undergoes a series of injustices, but by upholding justice and goodness, even in the toughest trials, she triumphs over evil and breaks the curse placed upon her.
The chanting you hear in the beginning of the song is Gåte's rendering of a recording of Marit J. Lillebuen's chanting (n.1879 - d.1975). As you might have heard, this chant is also what we built Ulveham's chorus on.
This kind of chanting (lokk in Norwegian) was used on farms to call the livestock home. It is a wordless tune designed to travel far and echo between the mountains. The animals would recognise the chant belonging to their given farm and head home when called upon.
There are few recordings of this vocal tradition in Norway. And this tradition of chanting is rarely used today.
In Ulveham, a song without a tune, meets a melody without words.
We find the result is both mighty, beautiful, and striking!

The coolest element in this excellent performance in the second and third long chorus where Gunnhild start out very powefull and pushing Even Harder and filling the raw Tone completely. @@V3ntilator It does not matter. that old Norwegian dialect is not easily accessible for Norwegian ears either, so the whole tune is not so reliant on the lyrics in the first place.
So it has to use other means to be interesting, and those means are not language-specific.
Gåte is a fresh breath of air in between all these bip-bap-bop songs popping up from everywhere. If you’ve heard one, you’ve heard them all. They could be AI generated, and they dont stick out in any way. In Eurovision you need that wow-factor together with several other X-factors. Gåte has everything we want to export from Norway.
If this masterpiece cant win im not rooting for norway in esc ever again! This is literally a masterpiece, when i listened i always get chillls. Norwegian folks this is THE ONE, you dont have a second choice please send this masterpiece

Heavy metal combined with folk music and a female vocalist to go with it.. And the scene show is absolutely indredible. Norway often gets burried by the jury but not this year. I think we're gonna win the entire thing.

Gunnhild's performance is World class, but also the the song it self without the vocals is pure hit magic ! Listen to the chorus and all the leading chords, that is the way to make powerful music

Har ikke fulgt med på mgp på mange år. Selv om det er lite trolig at de vil vinne Eurovision, siden det som oftest favoriserer engelsk lyrikk og pop sjangeren. AMAZING. So little needs to be changed, this is so Eurovision-ready! The fog full of lights creates this dreamy, stormlike effect that contrasts the darkness of the stage beautifully. The lasers amplify the mood and creates this chic, modern element that I think juries will appreciate. The images of Norwegian nature are crisp and beautiful. The only thing that needs tweaking in my eyes is some camera angles, it seems maybe its just a practice thing, because sometimes it struggles to keep up with Gunnhild's lovely face while the platform is spinning. Maybe there could also be more grass/nature on a bigger stage to fill it out and make it look alive. Otherwise, GORGEOUS!
Except the lyrics... The lyrics need to change because they are from an old folklore song so they need to be re written
