- Skarvane is something quite different, but still unmistakably a Gåte track.
On Skarvane, Gåte has granted themselves even more freedom to experiment with genre and sound, and has made a song that challenges both the folk rock scene and Gåte’s audience.
As a band, Gåte has always represented a breaking point between the traditional and the modern, a meeting place between past and present. This also requires a curiosity and a willingness to push yourself to explore new soundscapes and play around with elements from other genres.
This is eagerness to explore and push boundaries is evident on Skarvane, where Gåte exhibits new sides of themselves, and daringly implement and toy around with new sonic elements.
As such, Skarvane is not only a sign of what Gåte can accomplish, but also an indication of what we might expect in the future.
On the story behind Skarvane, Gåte comment:
"The lyrics in Skarvane is based on the legend «Skarvane from Utrøst» meaning "The Cormorants from Utrøst" . The legend tells that Utrøst is a excessively beautiful «huldreland» (a country of sirens) where "underworldlings" livs. This place is only visible to good-hearted human beings who are in deep danger out at sea. Three sons of the chieftain an Utrøst has the ability to transform them selves to cormorants. These cormorants leads the good-hearted humans lost at sea back to a safe haven."

Utrolig, at jeg aldri har hørt om dere før Eurovision! Akkurat min smak, perfekt blanding.
Når du liker dette her, så anbefaler jeg å også sjekke ut det svenske bandet Garmarna, især platene "Guds spelemän", "Vedergällningen" og "Förbundet". Gåte liker også Garmarna og jeg trur at man kan si at de har vært en slags inspirasjon. Garmarna begynte tidlig på nittitallet, mens Gåte begynte i 1999, da Gunnhild var bare 14 år gammel.

Fantastic mix of old and new. Great visuals as well. Absolutely love every song of the EP, but hearing this especially, I wish there was a full album combining more of these elements. It truly works and is a fresh take on the genre.
