Starlin's aliens look as if he dropped some acid and accidentally locked himself in the produce department of some grocery store.

I bought all the original issues of Starlin's WARLOCK (and CAPTAIN MARVEL) as they came out off the newsstand. Hey, there's got to be some advantage to being an old dude.

The Roy Thomas/Gil Kane run of Warlock stories set on Counter-Earth are very underappreciated.

Marvel also recently put out a Warlock Gallery Edition that contains the Strange Tales material. Beautiful book for any Starlin fan to own.

This series was my first exposure to Jim Starlin. Magus storyline blew my little teenage mind...

I so appreciate this. Aside from my uncle (who was an artist), the single greatest influence in my art career was JIM STARLIN. I grew up reading Marvel... and my all-time favorite comic was Warlock and Captain Marvel (as written and drawn by Jim Starlin). This sage (played out over both series and Avengers Annual / Marvel Two-In-One was the absolute peak. I wish I could thank Mr. Starlin personally. A couple of weeks ago, I did my very first Marvel cover (Captain America: Sentinel Of Liberty, Variant cover)... My one regret is that I somehow failed to put Starlin's name on that cover (even though he wasn't known for Captain America) as an homage to his greatness. I've been an artist for decades... but that cover means so much to me because of the countless hours and joy I took from Marvel comics. ...and the best of that time was spent with Mr. Starlin's creations. Great video. Subscribed! Thank you!

Warlock is a character I love but no one has been able to make him interesting like Starlin did.

I jumped aboard the Warlock wagon through the Marvel Two-In-One and Avengers annuals, and backtracked-sort of-before those special editions came out. I say “sort of” because, and I can’t remember where, the previous stories were reprinted when Marvel had cut their page count. The result was that things like Kirby’s FF (in Marvel’s Greatest Comics) or Starlin’s Warlock would be printed missing a page or two. No, I’m not making that up. So it wasn’t until the uncut special editions that I got to read the whole glorious storyline and, man, was I blown away. Of the Bronze Age creators succeeding people like Kirby, Jim, I think (with the exception of Barry Smith), was the best, because you saw the defined, expansive, unified vision of someone who was a rare bird even in today’s market: a great artist/storyteller AND a great writer. No conflicting intentions between writer and artist; no redundant or excessive captions and dialogue; no “Yeah, the art is great but the writing sucks.” And his Warlock and Thanos are STILL better than the hollow versions that followed, all of them lacking the personality, nuance, motivation, and, yes, humor of Jim’s. Sure, he went on to do other great comics, but the one that set the tone for everything to come was Adam Warlock. Those comics were, are, and always will be the good shit.

Sad we didn't get to see Warlock or Silver Surfer in the Infinity War movie. They had my hopes up at the end of Guardians 2.

When Warlock showed up in Silver Surfer and was freed from Soul World. That's the first comic I read as a kid that blew my mind. Since, Warlock's been my fave character and been rereading these comics for decades

Starlin's generation's page layouts were very much in the wake of Steranko and Barry Smith. These stories may have been chopped up in various reprints, but the original Starlin Strange Tales and eponymous Warlock books were full-length single-story comics. The Strange Tales title was revived during the big Marvel monster expansion as a spotlight style comic beginning with Brother Voodoo.

Excellent! I’ve been with Starlin since the beginning,Iron Man55,Captain Marvel 25-34& Warlock and the man is a force of nature who left a lasting impression on me! That 70’S era was the second stage of the creative 🚀 rocket with lots of fun imaginative thought provoking storytelling! I’m glad you guys have showed great enthusiasm for this stuff! Keep reading and making comix!

Magus is the evil Future of Warlock. This was an important point in the mid-1970s reading these as a 14 or 15 year old. Can you change the path you're on? Can you fight your fate? Will you really grow up to become your dad? And Starlin delivers answers. The Strange Death of Adam Warlock (issue 15?) and Marvel Two In One Annual 2 wrap up everything perfectly.

I devoured the Starlin Warlock books and all the cross-overs to Captain Marvel, and Marvel Two in One. Reading these books made me feel like an adult because the dialogue and themes were so adult and sophisticated. Read the dialogue during the fight between Thanos and the Magus. And the art panels were just mind-blowing. I can't count
how many times I re-read these books.

Great run. I personally loved the Counter Earth arc best, since it was fun to piece together the differences between its known doppelgangers (a good Von Doom, FF crashing, Banner married and a milquetoast son-in-law). But Starlin's run was compelling and original. A true Space Opera. It actually feels like a full character arc that was almost a shame to tack later work on with Warlock. Sometimes a character and his story ends and should be left alone (other then flashbacks, references and bringing back support characters). As a side notion, I wish they'd gone no further than Baxter paper in later comics. Its vivid colors still has some of the warmth and charm of the original pulp I grew up with.

Starlin’s Warlock saga is apex level comicbooking. It can not be topped. It’s that good. The Captain Marvel/Thanos before it was good but not mind blowing. But he perfected it with Warlock.

Side note: would you ever cover Rick Veitch's Panel Vision comics on the channel? I feel like there's a lot of unsung brilliance there

I got to read this series in sequence by searching spinner racks for the next issue, and it slew me! There was nothing else like it in comics at the time. I remember how Starlin's inside look at the bitchy office politics at Marvel shocked me with its open mockery. And Pip the Troll is a totally perfect character: "This is more fun than brown-eyeing!"

Starlin was originally hired to work on Iron Man. Stan Lee insisted on firing him from the title. Iron Man was beginning stagnation at the time. How AMAZING Iron Man could have been if he'd been allowed to continue on the title!
