Doug Braithwaite grew up in Northern Ireland like Ennis and Johnny McCrea. They were all part of the comics scene there. That's the connection with Ennis.
Also, Braithwaite's work on Imperium from contemporary Valiant is some of the best superhero work of the past 20 years.
Braithwaite did some good stuff on Judge Dredd and Rouge Trooper. At a certain point, he partners up with Alex Ross as his penciller for a Justice League series that Ross paints over. Kind of interesting collaboration.
The "Justice" series is Ross's best artwork in my opinion, so Braithwaite for sure deserves more credit than he was being given here.
Doug Braithwaite has had a second bite of the Punisher apple, and worked with Ennis on Punisher MAX too
Don't know about you guys, But Captain America getting shot mid monologue is the funniest thing ever.
Proto The Boys!
I don't really understand the complaint about the Elseworlds imprint. The whole point was letting writers use characters outside traditional editorial constraints and inject some new ideas into the mix, so it should be exactly what you'd be looking for.
There were several interesting and well-developed Elseworlds tales done in this vein, like John Byrne's "Generations" series and John Arcudi and Tom Mandrake's "JLA: Destiny".
I didn't realize this was Ennis' actual first Punisher work until maybe around MAX era Punisher. This was a good read.
There's a whole Marvel Knights era of Ennis Punisher before MAX. And that Punisher is alot more like this, the slapstick Wile E Coyote Punisher.
Doug Braithwaite's done a lot of way better work than this in the past so I'm guessing a lot of the jank is down to tight deadlines and all the inkers. His Valiant stuff is excellent.
IIRC he did the pencils for Alex Ross in the "Justice" series and that may be Alex Ross's best artwork ever.
I liked his work on Universe X, which is the only other place I'm familiar with him.
Closing one eye while aiming determines your centering and accuracy.
Doug Braithwaite turned into a great artist. Check Justice, Paradise X, Universe X and his new Valiant work. He's got a draftsman's realism to his work that I don't think is photo referenced.
was just rewatching the 1st season of invincible last night, & man oh man is Omni Man's setup & elimination of the guardians similar to the situation on the moon here
Practical shooters nowadays no longer close the eye completely while on target. Ideally, your dominant eye focuses on the front sight of the weapon and your other eye is sort of squinting but can still pickup other threats in your peripheral vision. For target shooting it is still common to close.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
You guys probably don’t care but there is the “Blue Area” of the moon that has a breathable atmosphere. I forget how it got there/who made it but that might account for their lack of space helmets 😆
Punisher: War Journal & Punisher MAX = BOOM
The Punisher has become a symbol and meme of right-wing identity. How did that happen?
Poor media literacy
Lies.
