It would be great to see a Garth Ennis shoot interview.....it would also be fun for you guys to go over The Pro by Garth Ennis and Amanda Connor. People think Wolverine gets treated bad in these issues? Wait until the audience sees what Ennis has in store for "League of Justice." One of the funniest comics ever printed.
Punisher Vol 6 - This whole run is sick, the next issue (18) Punisher is in Belfast Garth's hometown and he fookin nails the humour, highly recommend. Also a tidbit for fellow Dublin Kayfabers, I spoke to John McCrea at a festival once and he said himself, Ennis and Dillon used to work on comics in the Green Dolphin boozer in Raheny!!
You should check out the Punisher: Born by Ennis and Robertson that came after this. The art improves hugely and it was under MAX so it's much more "outlaw" content wise.
I fucking love these Ennis Punishers! I love that he was able to ramp up the violence, offensiveness, and just general outlaw shit throughout the run and really give us the sick shit we crave in a comic about a pre-meditated murderer! Ennis is one of the few writers I actually seek out no matter who the artist because of his wonderfully psychotic imagination. I can tell you guys loved reading these and I say do more!
Love this channel guys! So far I bought Wolverine Jungle Adventure, FF Grand Design and X-Men Grand Design. Love the texture and smell of the pages from the grand design large books haha. I know thats weird. Also bought the hardcover history of Kirby- Epic Life of. CANT WAIT FOR HULK GRAND DESIGN!! You guys are solely responsible for getting me back into reading comics. Thanks!
My man Darick joined Greg Rucka and relaunched Wolverine in 2003 after he finished off Transmet. I think he did 3 issues of Punisher in between Dillon's issues, and they came out before his Wolverine run. Dillon did issues #1-6 of this volume of Punisher after his 12 issues on the previous volume, and came back at issue 18 in this volume. An amazing combined run 👍
The Wolverine writer at the time, Frank Tieri, took umbrage to the characterization of Wolverine in these comics and wrote his own rebuttal where Wolverine "outs" the Punisher as being gay.
I just recently reread this run of punisher and FUCK do I miss the marvel of the early 2000s. say what you want about Joe Q but I was in elementary school back then and the balls of a lot of that early Marvel Knights and Ultimate work is unmatched in mainstream superhero comics. hell a lot of it didn't work at all but they were getting all star writers and artists and just letting them do whatever the hell they wanted and looking back now it's insane
The first Darrick Robertson Marvel I saw was New Warriors right after Mark Bagley! Much later Darrick was supposed to do a Deathlok mini series and unfortunately never done! Beautiful artwork!
Hey Guys it was the same team, Garth and Darick on The Boys too. Keep up the awesome work, its great to hear both of your genuine enthusiasm coming through and it cracks me up when you both just burst out laughing at all the parts that we do too ;)
Ed mentioned Jacen Burrows. He and Ennis recently worked together on a Punisher mini. Derick Robertson worked on a Wolverine ongoing with Greg Rucka after this
Man, this story was SO funny. I remember the LCS I bought it from just hated it because of how Garth Ennis treated Wolverine. I thought it was hilarious. Logan gets his face shot off? His nethers blown away? AND run over with a steamroller? C'mon, what could be more fun than that?? I remember reading it years later and having to google what a "pine martin" is because Punisher called Wolverine that at the end of the story.
I bought my comics from Peninsula Comics shop and have those early Space Beaver's as well. The owner of the shop I believe was in business with Darick at the time. Good stuff.
Ennis and Roberston did indeed team up for The Boys, which you two would have a field day with, graphically violent & hilarious. Robertson didn't do the entire run but at least the first 2 arcs and some more.
Robertson's run on Wolverine with Greg Rucka had the unfortunate timing of being released during the era of the Fox X-Men movies where the comics were trying their best to lure fans of tall, handsome Hugh Jackman. Robertson's Wolverine (as written by Rucka" was supposed to be short, feral and nasty looking, but editorial supposedly wasn't happy with it.
I always loved how Ennis' Punisher admits he'd never win in a one-on-one fight with most Marvel characters, so he's forced to get creative and crude with his methods in order to evade them.
Had me in stitches with this one lads. I remember a month or two after this came out the wolverine comic did a punisher crossover issue that wolverine came out on top this time but it fell flat because it ended with wolverine outing frank as homosexual, super weird.
The best use of the Punisher I've read was the Greg Rucka run in the early teens. It works mostly because the story is about someone other than the Punisher. The woman who ends up being the protaginist has a very strong character arc and it wraps up nicely at the end of the run.
Darick and Ennis did Fury from Marvel Max before this. Then did Punisher Born, Fury Peacemaker, and next worked with Ennis on the first half of the Boys.
I forgot Robertson was on the original Fury MAX book. Fury: My War Gone By with Parlov was a better comic in general, but I can't believe what Marvel let them get away with in that first book.
If you guys want to see a super gory violent wolverine comic you should check out Wolverine: The best there is...... its great artwork it really reminds me of Red Room......
Check out WOLVERINE v2 186. Frank Tieri and the Dodsons put together a direct response to this matchup a little more skewed toward Wolverine obviously.
guys i love you, but we really don't need a stereo image for your voices. ed is like hard panned right and jim's center left, it's mad distracting. keep it up fellas though, awesome as always
That guy on the last page was a little person version of John McCrea

The Pro is so good, my copy got ripped off, unfortunately.
Yes to both also! But you have to get Darick also! Talk about these issues, and his career! Please…..

Wasn't that Belfast issue written and dawn entirely by Dillon as part of the 'Nuff Said gimmick month.
@@markwhittington1070 it was!
You should check out the Punisher: Born by Ennis and Robertson that came after this. The art improves hugely and it was under MAX so it's much more "outlaw" content wise.
Born was my first comic and still my all time favorite.
Darick did every single damn issue of Transmet without a fill-in. He's a champion workhorse, and a hell of a nice guy too!
I fucking love these Ennis Punishers! I love that he was able to ramp up the violence, offensiveness, and just general outlaw shit throughout the run and really give us the sick shit we crave in a comic about a pre-meditated murderer! This channel is such an inspiration. The future generations of artist will grow up watching this I think.
"He really captured the head..." I love Ed off the cuff. 😆

It was a bad idea to take a drink when Ed said "thoes Peter Dinklage lookin Fucks" everythings wet & I couldnt stop cracking up smhh thanks Ed
The Wolverine writer at the time, Frank Tieri, took umbrage to the characterization of Wolverine in these comics and wrote his own rebuttal where Wolverine "outs" the Punisher as being gay.
I remember that
What issues?
Thank you so much for covering this one! Another great Marvel comic from the early Aughts!! A truly underrated era...
Darick did all 60 issues of Transmet, but Rodney Ramos inked most of it, in order to keep Darick on sched

Yo this is one of my favorite comics!!!! Thanks for covering it!
Punisher/Wolverine team up. Gotta love it!
YES!!! I have been waiting for you to cover this two issue story.
Ennis and Roberston did indeed team up for The Boys, which you two would have a field day with, graphically violent & hilarious. Robertson didn't do the entire run but at least the first 2 arcs and some more.
Wolverine looks like that Tar Man zombie from Return of the Living Dead
Great story!! Thanks for sharing!!
Dudeeeee.
I remember borrowing this from my local library when I was like 11 or 12. Completely warped my little mind at the time.

The guy looking at us and grinning is Garth Ennis.
Had me in stitches with this one lads. I remember a month or two after this came out the wolverine comic did a punisher crossover issue that wolverine came out on top this time but it fell flat because it ended with wolverine outing frank as homosexual, super weird.
Garth Ennis was awesome on Punisher and the six issues of Darkness he wrote and Ghost Rider.
The best use of the Punisher I've read was the Greg Rucka run in the early teens. It works mostly because the story is about someone other than the Punisher. The woman who ends up being the protaginist has a very strong character arc and it wraps up nicely at the end of the run.
Fuck me, what a ride.
I love this story and bring it up whenever Garth or The Boys comes up!
The page after we see Pauli on his stumps, the caller states "... taken off at the knees well halfway down their thighs actually"
Wolverine is like the coyote in the Roadrunner cartoon lol
Darick and Ennis did Fury from Marvel Max before this. Then did Punisher Born, Fury Peacemaker, and next worked with Ennis on the first half of the Boys.

@@markwhittington1070 I really wish they’d reprint My War Gone By.
Dope, as always!
Darick Robertson drew a brutal Wolverine in the first few issues for the series that started in '03.
Or there is a stump juice collector till the puss and fluids drain from the wounds . And wolverine doesn’t allways aim to amputate that exactly.
You know, I still want Ennis to tell a Wolverine story as he sees fit.
If you guys want to see a super gory violent wolverine comic you should check out Wolverine: The best there is...... its great artwork it really reminds me of Red Room......
I need to find these
Garth's run on Punisher was so good. One of my favorite things he has done.
Check out WOLVERINE v2 186. Frank Tieri and the Dodsons put together a direct response to this matchup a little more skewed toward Wolverine obviously.
You guys should check out the Wolverine/Punisher/Ghostrider by John Romita jnr!
There was a response to this story in wolverine #186. Not nearly as good though, but they couldn’t let Wolverine get punked like that.
So… the plan was to turn all these guys into Cotton Hill?
Whoa! Totally edge-lord!! Did Frank actually solve a crime..? What was the crmie...?
They said Wolverine's damn near one of them because he's short.
If you guys think this is wild Robertson and you haven't seen The Boys, it's worth your time. Not peak Ennis work, but it's fun Robertson.
Punisher/Wolverine: Junk Trauma
Hahahahhaha best ever laughing so hard
How the hell you guys never read the boys , that comic is off the chain
guys i love you, but we really don't need a stereo image for your voices. ed is like hard panned right and jim's center left, it's mad distracting. keep it up fellas though, awesome as always
This is PG stuff compared to Punisher Max.
This video made me pull out the Born TPB. Brutal stuff in that book.
