    I'm 48 and I still have the 18" big chap Alien figure! I got it when I was 5 along with a 12" Darth Vader for Christmas. They had epic battles!

    I actually own the original artwork for the third to last page of Aliens Salvation -- the one with 'Amen' and then an explosion. I bought it directly from Mike Mignola at New York City Comic Con at the Jacob Javitts Center in 1996 or 1997. Can't believe I picked it up for a little over a hundred dollars. (I also picked up an original page of Arthur Adams's work on the Dark Horse Godzilla Special, too... for a about the same price!) It's a little surreal knowing I own a single, unique piece that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world.
    Anyway, great walk-through, as always! Thank you!

    Plenty of gold nuggets on this channel. Thank you.

    what a treasure! the panels from this comic are ingrained in my brain from childhood, it really speaks to the design language of mignola.

    You guys should check out the Clayface story from Batman Villains Secret Files 2005. Drawn by Mignola in the '80s so it's still his pre-Hellboy style, but inked by Nowlan in the early 2000s. Great mix of both their styles.

    I kept rereading this book unable to comprehend how perfect it all was. I couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that Mignola could break down everything into perfect shapes of black and white. Things I’d never seen simplified like that (although I was really into Jungle Adventure and Cosmic Odyssey) And Nowlans inking was impossibly sharp. Nothing looked this good since the first movie. This and Dracula made Mignola god like. He finally seemed fully formed.

      I was thinking about getting that. Do you recommend it? Any other particularly cool stuff in there?

    • @kalerobinson
      @kalerobinson 2 года назад +1

      @@benthehumaniac Absolutely. Vol 2 has stories by John Byrne, Peter Milligan, John Arcudi, Dave/Mignola... They're collecting everything Alien-specific DH published from start to 2016 in 4 books. Omnibus size, comprehensive, and the talent is properly credited. I'm a fan of it.

    I remember seeing the ads for this in Wizard, passed on it thinking this was just more movie tie-ins (i think Alien 3 dropped around 1993 too), but man that Mignola art. I love how he keeps calling back to that swirl design, even the alien queen splash page recalls that swirl with all those dead chestburster host bodies trailing out.

    I got the Alien omnie's and I do not regret it. Some stories are so awesome to read also the art looks sick. Some the best stories I find was Labyrinth and Dead orbit and ofcourse this one as well. Awesome channel by the way. Found it while searching for the Shaolin Cowboy.

    Possibly my favorite licensed book of all time, I read this in the early '90s alongside Bram Stoker's Dracula and became a Mignola fan for life.

    A very sharp one shot,guys! Damn straight about Dave Gibbons writing! Steve Rude told me that he really enjoyed and was probably the hardest thing he worked on (up to that point)! Mignola style always speaks for itself and Kevin Nowlan’s diversity across his career is a beautiful thing! His inks on Jon Bogdanove on Chuck Dixon’s Superman/New Gods/Aliens 4 issue series definitely comes to mind! This is a great one and done story! Thanks again n keep reading and making comix!

    One of my favorites!!! There were rumors of a new alien movie being developed the other day and I specifically named dropped this title as the perfect story to tell in a one off, small budget aliens movie.

    Wow, I dont think I've ever seen this one. When the Alien comics were hitting regular circulation, I'd read it, I'd like it, but it soon turned me away because the result would always be the same, IMO.I was a tweener mind you, LOL!

    I clicked on this so fast! I'm so excited I'm going to comment before I watch the video. This is for sure my favourite of the old Dark Horse "Aliens" comics. Not only does it do something that I always like to see, and that's using these creatures for a kind of catalyst to tell a human story (like the movie "Train to Busan" did with zombies), but it's gorgeous.
    EDIT: While I do love this one (it's one of the ones that stands out in my mind after 30 years), this isn't my favourite. I think I had the title confused with "Sacrifice", written by Peter Milligan with art by Paul Johnson. But now I'm feeling the urge to dive into more long boxes and check, and I'm still not done going through my Heavy Metal collection, you bastards!
