    Great video on unions - relevent and straight to the point. Other videos I saw left out some basic information bringing about confusion.
    Thanks to you, I successfully installed a stormwater pump which I can often remove for maintenance.

    I appreciate the video, it helped a lot, God bless America and RUclips... And the rest of the world. I have a pvc union installed just after my Backflow preventer for my sprinkler system. Not sure why they would install a union, i understand the union's purpose but not the contractors purpose. I was thinking on making a cut and installing a tee for a blowout port but i gotta do more homework. Thanks again for the video.

      Study carefully, how the BFP is configured and installed; most often, male threaded ends join to some ball valve closure at each side, and the female threaded ends are joined to some male connectors which are soldered, or cemented to the pipes. When the most common failure occurs, freeze cracking of the valve near the ball, there is no way to easily remove just the valve, because trying to rotate to remove is prevented by the other end.
      You should appreciate that someone added that union, because that will let you separate that end, and even if the other end is threaded you likely can rotate the unit to remove the assembly and replace separate components without any cutting, de- or re-soldering, gluing, etc.

    Thanks for this video. I am replacing valves in my sprinkler system but the installer didn't use unions when they made the system. The valves are threaded, so I can cut the pipe, and unscrew the valve. How much length will the 1.25" union require. The pipes have no play in them so I need to be accurate. I know I could possibly use a repair extension if I can't make the union work. Thanks

    • @FlexPVC
      @FlexPVC  Год назад

      I will have to go measure one for you. Is this one you are thinking of buying from us? The reason I ask it that what I measure will only apply to our unions. For an 1.25" pipe you'll cut out .5" if you are using the slip socket type. If you are using the threaded ones it'll be about 5/8" but you'll have to make sure to use good paste on the threads. Otherwise you won't be able to get them all the way in. Even 3/4" might be better for threaded ones. I hope this helps. If you are not using 1.25" pipe, contact us with the pipe you are using and we'll let you know. Thanks for the question.

    Will these Unions work for High pressure water.. And for high air pressure such as septic air pump aerator pvc connections without leaking over time?

    • @FlexPVC
      @FlexPVC  2 года назад

      Generally most unions are good to 100psi, but it would depend on exactly which union and which size. Best to call or email us directly. As for using them with air... generally same answer, but remember, pvc should not be used with pressurized air due to the spring effect of air and the potential for injury should it fail. Thanks for the questions.

    The white one's you're using for the presentation are very similar if not the same that HomeDepot has. My question is, can I use these for my pool filter and pump? will they work fine under the pressure of pool pumps? Thx in advance!

    • @FlexPVC
      @FlexPVC  3 года назад +1

      I can't comment on the quality of what HD sells. You have to ask them what sort of pressure rating they have and it they are suitable for your application. Note: Swimming pools are at the bottom of the pressure list. Ie most run 20-35 psi max. So it's usually not an issue.

    My Union is leaking even though it is tight. Could it be the O Ring? It’s on a discharge line for a sump pump so not under any pressure.

    • @FlexPVC
      @FlexPVC  11 месяцев назад

      If it's leading it's either the O-ring or the glue joint. The O-ring is the easiest to check and fix. So I'd look there first.

    Hi can you use a flexible pvc joiner instead of unions for swimming pools then.

    • @FlexPVC
      @FlexPVC  7 месяцев назад

      Well that would depend on what you mean by "flexible pvc joiner." I'm not aware of any such product. And a Union is something that is 3 parts. Two tail pieces and a collar. It's meant to be used to connect and disconnect easily. Flexible pvc pipe is meant to be glued into something like a union. Might be best to contact us directly on this question. Please use flexpvc.com/Contact.shtml or call us at 1 888 782 3539 M-F, 10am to 4pm PST. Thank you.

      @@FlexPVC Thank you, and I am talking about a Fernco Flexible PVC Coupling at Home Depot with SKU 687944. Do you think that will sustain the water pressure. Thank you so much for answering.

      Sorry a Fernco would not work. It only holds very little pressure. Best thing to use is unions that glue on to the flexpvc. see flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?product=PVC-Fittings-Unions-China

    Unions, especially PVC, are as rare as hen's teeth in my area and the price is crazy ($45 CDN for a 1.5" FPT union). Absolutely nuts and that's if you can actually get one.
