Thanks for this valuable advice! I just started my own FB community dedicated to future-proofing your career in the age of AI and It will definitely help!
Great video. I can hear your passion. I have kept my private FB group small on purpose..less than 100. My goal was to focus on quality versus quantity. However, my content must be getting boring because the engagement has dropped. Now I am looking for new ideas and possible some growth. Thank you again.
You’re welcome! I hope my video has giving you some inspiration. It might be a change in algorithm that’s led to the drop rather than members disengaging.
I am having a problem at the moment where I have a FB group that is growing like crazy I have had 3000 members join in the last month. I didn't do anything but post button art over the years and then 4 weeks ago it it took off. Without warning. I am having hundreds joining on the daily now. I came to you tube to get insight on to how to manage a group of more than 1000. I am in tons of groups on FB but I feel I will actually need help. With others being moderators etc
Wow - congratulations! My group has grown fast during some points and it can be quite overwhelming. The admin can really get on top of you! I’d definitely recommend putting a post out asking for volunteer moderators. This is a good first step to help you keep on top of the group until it settles and you can manage it a bit better. I cover lots of advice on managing volunteers and moderators in my book ‘Gather: How to grow a mission-driven online community’.
Thanks Philip! Yes, 100%....definitely change in to private. When I was researching for my Gather online community book, I didn't find a single successful Facebook group that was public. There is no incentive for members to join if it is always open. Plus it will massively affect your engagement levels if members know anyone is able to see what they post. What is your Facebook group for?
Thanks Lisa! Absolutely - it was published just over a year ago and everything is still relevant for growing a Facebook group today. I hope you find it inspiring and helpful! Let me know how you get on :)
First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video!!!! You're incredible. I have a very detailed question for you, but no worries if you don't have the time to answer it. I am going to be launching a PR campaign with the goal of getting 25,000-50,000 signatures on a petition to help move a piece of legislation forward. I am fairly well versed on most of the social media world, but have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to Facebook Groups. Realistically this campaign would last for 6 months since that is when the next legislative cycle would start. With that said, would it be worth it to put effort into a facebook group? Or, is it to short of a time frame to be valuable? If so, would you suggest running a promo like the one you suggested in this video to increase Group count faster, or would that degrade the quality of those who joined? Don't feel pressured to respond, but if you can, even a sentence or two would mean the world. Again, thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for the kind words!! I’m happy you found it helpful :) I think for this sort of campaign you’ll want lots of different approaches to marketing to increase your reach. A group will grow faster than a page (especially if you can encourage people who join to have conversations - put post out with questions and ask them their opinions and this will get the conversation flowing). So I would definitely try opening one! As it’s a short timeframe it might be worth trying ads alongside the techniques I suggest in the video. Very happy to answer questions :) Also do you have a link for signatures? I’d love to take a look!
You only need a few.....I'd suggest having one that introduces your group and what you're about. And then another that would encourage conversation with your new members such as 'introducing themselves' or 'sharing ideas or what they do', etc.
