I flew SAS from Chicago to Copenhagen, Copenhagen to Helsinki, Helsinki to Stockholm and then Stockholm back to Chicago. I took a vacation to the Nordic countries this past fall. I didn’t have a single problem with them. No delays, no cancellations, friendly staff, good hard product. I really liked them. Never flew KLM though. Austrian is good too. I flew with them in late 2021. On a side note: that’s my review at 11:49.

Great video, but something to keep in mind, the KLM was the cityhopper it has no recline, basic seats and less padding. The KLM Cityhooper is used for short flight and it’s a short haul aircraft. On the other hand SAS has the larger plane, used for longer services therefore better seats and padding and other stuff. KLM does offer short haul on larger planes like the 737 which is similar size to the a320 you were on on SAS, the old and the new cabin of KLM in the 737, 700, 800 and the 900 would I say it’s kinda the same as SAS’s seats. The old cabin of KLM 737 is like the SAS cabin on the a320. It would be a little more fair if you did the 737 for KLM, so therefore I would say KLM won. (BTW this is no hate comment I think your great)

@@ericstruk True, you flew KLM Cityhopper, which is a like a sort of low-cost (but not entirely) subsidiary of KLM. But keep in mind that your SAS flight was operated by SAS Connect which is also a sort of low-cost subsidiary to SAS. Most SAS Connect planes don't have Wifi because SAS Connect is very new and the planes are pretty new so they haven't really found the time to install wifi on all of them yet. Overall, both airlines are pretty even, though personally would go for SAS all the way.

The differences between KLM and SAS is that KLM is a full service airline, while SAS is more of a hybrid between low-cost and full service. It's somewhere in the middle. One plus with SAS is that you can buy youth tickets for a very cheap price, around 50-70 dollars for short haul flights, depending on how long your flight is. My personal favorite is SAS, as it's the airline i've flown my entire life.

I've been flying every 3 months to the USA for work with KLM. At first I went with regular economy class, which was great, good service, good seats, very comfy, skilled pilots, etc. But that was on a bigger airplane than you flew, like the cityhopper. For work I could upgrade to business class, and I can tell you, it's a whole different experience. Great lounch, great facilities and seating, service, etc. on the plane. I can also collect these "Delfts blauwe huisjes" from KLM which you get for flying with business class and after flying for years with KLM, I have an entire collection cabinet full of those pieces.

I flew KLM intercontinental SEL AMS HAV in 2017 and the experience was similar. Strong and solid service, but there were DELAYS at AMS due to many passengers connecting into my flight were stuck on a hold pattern due to strong tail winds. We ended up waiting 2 hours for the rest of the passengers and additional 30 minutes taxi. The queue of aircarfts was huge, and I enjoyed seeing many airliners from different companies from my window seat. The crew was amazing, the passengers not so much, but the crew made sure to keep all the disorderly passengers on check. Their friendly approach and multi language skills made up for the delay. The return flight was very bumpy, and again, the crew shone through. Great experience with them back to back.

I always have flown with KLM to much further destinations, taking up to 12 to 15 hours of flight. The seat is probably not made that comfy because these types of planes are used for very short distances only. In the Dreamliner the seats are definitely better. What I like the most about KLM is that you can just walk to the kitchen part and if you want to have something to drink you can get it for free, or any other food that is just standing there. The personnel is not complaining if you stand for a while in the aft section because you want to stretch your legs and the amount of food is more than enough.

Emirates. First class from BKK to HKG literally for cheap. You can literally shower at 30,000ft. You won't regret it.
If you want an suggested itinerary for cheap, I'd go like this, assuming you're not flying out of Canada though by the US.
Los Angeles (LAX) - Tokyo (NRT) : Zip Air ''Business Class-ish''
Tokyo (NRT) - Bangkok (BKK) : AirAsia X ''Business Class-ish'' (AirAsia is like our Ryanair of South East Asia)
BKK to HKG - as suggested.
Given it is a one way fare, you'd be spending roughly USD 2,000.

I now live in the Netherlands, and I have lived in Sweden for a few years, so I have flown both a few times. My experience with both of them is great! And what you said about the coldness of the people of KLM, you’re right, Dutch people aren’t very social, so that’s not on you.

I think you flew KLM cityhopper wich is the more low cost service airline of KLM. I think you should try to fly the real KLM on long-haul service, but actually a great video

Have flown on KLM several times since the mid-2010s, but I'm about to fly SAS for the first time in April of 2024, so we shall see. Shouldn't judge an airline just from one person's experience a 16-minute RUclips video, but it's a good preview at least.

A major plus for KLM is AMS Schiphol Airport: the amount of global connections, with KLM and partners, is amazing! And this is a single terminal airport as you said, really nice place too. By the way, my best KLM experiences where SFA-AMS and Hong Kong to AMS, AMS to Seoul was good too! Test the Seoul Starbucks, if you are lucky, nobody speaks English (besides the names of the beverages) and the receipt is totally incomprehensible - but such a fun keep-sake! Had to transfer to Guam and barely any ticket agency sells Europe to Guam tickets, so I got seperate ones. Also flew through Taipei and stayed in Taiwan for a few days - must do! KLM to Cape Town is awesome as well. AMS is not too huge (doesn't feel that way) but is a global center with amazing connections - many options, high frequency, safe and clean airport and Amsterdam is also a great two-day in between layover location, very close to city center - with amazing rail connections. By the way, Copenhagen is also an excellent airport, just not so well connected as Amsterdam however, with way better Scandinavian connections!

Yes. I can confirm flying KLM on numerous occasions since 1983. Dutch people are cold in a weird way no matter which airline they work for. Case in point, I thought the flight attended in Emirates Business Class Dacca to Dubai, she was Dutch and took herself waaay too seriously. Dutch, Belgians, Luxies, Germans and Danes carry some personal baggage with them. I believe it's a cultural thing that we North Americans have to get climatized to; otherwise, you'll be suffering for no reason. When in Northern Europe do and act as the Northern Europeans...be solemn and moody. The moment you show friendliness and put on a happy face, they'll think you've got mental problems.

You’ve obviously never been to Charles de Gaulle terminal 1 if you think EU airports are so great. Also Atlanta is a great airport despite it being so busy and has plenty of options in every price range. It’s by far one of the best I’ve traveled through over the decades.
