Here is a great way to stop you being all "upper trappy" when you have a winging scapula - and you're trying to sort it out with firing up your serratus in a scapula press and your trying stabilse your scapula in chest presses and push ups.
With most winging scapula - the serratus is weaker and usually its buddy the lower trap is too. When we need to press or abduct to go over head, if the serratus and lower trap are not so great, the upper trap has to take over and do more work. It's hard to get out of that pattern of movement if its been there for a long time.
Using a band for resistance and feedback is a great way to help you move the scapula into depression (and fire the lower trap in the movement) as well as stop your scap moving into elevation and somewhat inhibit the upper trap dominance.
It can be applied across the scapula press in 4 point, bird-dogs and push ups. See how this works for your winging scap and upper trap issues!

When you say, "Too heavy, too much load. You'll compensate", what exactly would be compensating for the lower traps? The lats?

Again very witty exercise , my traps are getting release but I have a medial winging scapula..so retraction and depression are pushing my scapula medially again. My friends helps mi to push my medial side of my hand which I retract and depress . this slightly could push my scapula our of medially line /I practise a similar exercise with my physio but I am not sure/.What would you suggest? Is it more "easier" to exercise with lateral winging scapula! thank you

Perhaps you do a combination of scapula exercises to cover it all
