- 4 years ago today I watched POTO live for the first time @ HMT. I first learnt the music when I was a teenager and had waited 20 years to watch this at London. It was an exhilarating, hair-raising and incredibly entertaining experience worth every penny and every minute! I managed to capture the overture & the chandelier-fall stealthily with my trusty iPhone XR. The Carlotta is Kimberly Blake.

Very beautifully filmed. Thank you so much for this.
This production is so much better than the one that is in London now, shame on Cameron Mackintosh, for ruining it a masterpiece.
There were reasons behind it, most people think it was just cost cutting to make him richer, not actually the case. The original production had investors since day 1 which were incredibly expensive to pay, estimated at £100,000 a week! The theatre was planned to be refurbished 4 years before so when the pandemic came a long it was the perfect time. As nobody knew the uncertainty of the future it was too risky to put back in its original form. Fortunately the tour was around and was almost identical, CM said it was the only was to save the show from being permanently taken off.
@@michaelwood9389 i agree that the risk was too high, the problem is that the show lost half of it's magic.Better no Phantom than a cash grab Phantom in my opinion.
I just watched the London version around 2 weeks ago. (Actually two weeks ago to this day) it is almost exactly the same as the broadway version. Intact, the only things changed is the percenium, chandelier and orchestra size.
@@animationflow1055 yes exactly, i don't like these new versions
@@michaelwood9389 the west end one NOW is the same as it was BEFORE
absolutely gorgeous video. i have never seen the original london overture in such good quality. thank you so much for this! do you have any more?
same auctioneer from 1995,2006
theres rumours of a 2024 us tour. when will this happen
it's definitely gonna happen. i'd imagine it'll be in the next few years ish. when it tours it'lll be the current london production and not this one.
Great clear clip. You mentioned that you captured the chandelier fall. Any chance of uploading it please? Thanks 🙂
agreed!
I haven't seen the Italian production, and I'm not sure it is worth the money. As it seems, the restaging looks a lot like that of the American tour of some years ago, the Phantom desappears curling on a bed ad covering with a sheet, not from the throne. And he doesn't see Christine when she comes back to give him the ring. No candelabra, no stairs, no portcullis... I have read that audiences are very satisfied, of course we have Ramin, but I wonder if they have never seen a single scene from the original. I have downloaded some version from the net, one whole with Hug Panaro, seen a couple of time, also on the net, the one at the RAH... So I think I would be quite disappointed by a poor set. And if I can understand this was made because of the limited budget, I can see no point in changing the meaning of the story at some points
