    The first note of the overture never fails to bring me to the brink of tears. It’s so...powerful. It’s almost like it hits you with all of the magic of theatre all at once

      Oh I agree so much. I saw phantom December 9th of 2022. The Australian cast. As soon as the overture started I started crying my eyes out lol, even tho it’s all colourful and they’re rehearsing Hannibal and stuff, that organ note is beautiful

    I've seen this show three times live, and it never fails to send chills when the auctioneer announces "Perhaps we can frighten away the ghost of so many years ago with a little Illumination...GENTLEMEN!" and I'm bloody bawling by the time that first note hits and the chandelier lights up.

    Overture FOR SURE always gives me the feels! Even when I first heard & discovered Phantom (5 years old) now I'm 14 & of course it STILL gives my body chills. I've only seen the show once which was last year but when I heard the first note of the Overture I TEARED up. Oh... I wanna be a musical theater actor one day... We'll see.

    When I went to see this a few years ago in my hometown, the chandelier was already hanging from the ceiling at the start of the auction scene, and it was covered in some sort of thick fabric. At the start of the overture, the fabric was automatically pulled away and stuffed inside the prop, revealing the chandelier. Now here's the thing that blew me away. In this show, the chandelier was hanging above the audience, and I was sitting on the balcony that stretched around the right side of the theatre, probably just 30-40 feet away from it. So at the start of the overture, this huge crazy flashing thing was revealed right in front of me as the intense, badass music started, and I was in absolute shock since I had no idea that it was going to happen.
    Best introduction in all of theater history.

    • @Troylito
      @Troylito 3 года назад +3

      It depends on the venue, if they are able to rig the chandelier into the ceiling to have the effect of hanging above the audience, and to crash down onto the stage at the end of Act 1.

    I saw this back in '99 at the Majestic Theater when I was in college and it's a totally differently experience when you see this masterpiece live rather than on TV. As soon as the pipe organ kicks in, the floor vibrates, your chair shakes, and a plethora of emotions runs through your body. You feel joy, fear, suspense, awe, and so much more. You may even shed some tears, but that's ok. You're surrounded by musical magic & genius. It's sensory overload and it never gets old.

    For me personally, I think what would sell the fact that you’re going back in time is the feeling of wind blowing and dust flying starting from 1:23 when the chandelier starts to rise up

    As awesome as this is, seeing it live is kind of difficult to describe. I first saw this at the majestic back in 97, being a teenager and having very little prior knowledge of the show. When that chandelier goes up and the theatre rumbles with pipe organ, it’s *completely* breathtaking.

    This is how the auction scene should be; creepy, foreboding, leading into one of the greatest moments in live theater when the overture begins!
    The new tour completely ruined this whole scene, which is my favorite part of the entire show. Pitiful...

    Saw this December 9 2022, I’m 17 I’ve loved the show since I was 14, but not completely obsessed.
    I saw it and fuck I cried so hard as soon as the overture started. The Australian cast is beautiful, the chandelier is amazing I swear, the chandelier doesn’t get risen in the aus version. It’s on the roof and the drape over it gets sucked inside the chandelier, still amazing. It also doesn’t swing onto the stage, it falls straight down, which was terrifying lol I was right underneath it
