I love how when the Phantom tells her to sing, it's almost like he is literally pulling the notes out of her, and forcing her to hit pitches that even she's never tried before, to the point where she is practically screaming.
Nobody knows who he is, nobody knows why he's there. One day, he just showed up with his electric guitar, and started shredding during band practice, and everyone- even the conductor just kinda went along with it.

Trust me, this song is so much cooler live. I saw this in a field trip, and I got chills when the beginning started playing. It was absolutely phenomenal, and I had goosebumps the entire time during this song. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. If you can get tickets to see this, I absolutely recommend buying them. You won't be disappointed.
4:19 Christine's voice is a bit sharp (higher in pitch) here and I think it's deliberate, it makes the sound brighter and more piercing and intense. It's genius!
@@magiv4205 i will go with him , whatever how creep he are, that voice are so beautiful , if i can listen it every day, whocares how phantom's face mess.
3:46 This exact moment, when he 'commands' her to SING! Apart from her obvious singing talent, her timing and expression in that precize moment is perfect. It is as though the 'aaaah' is overcoming her and she has no control over it. Almost as if he controls her and she doesn't know whether it is a curse or a blessing.
By Christ, he DOESN'T CONTROL HER, she's just S I N G I N G. And surely being with Erik it's a blessing, and a heartwarming, intense love experience ❤️🔥
@@PADARM No, he was known to be a magician, Christine was never in trance. But if that's your interpretation, ok, thankfully the original novel proves the opposite :)
The way Ramin says "MY Angel of Music" at 3:37 is so unique to him, and he makes it sounds as if he were Erik because Erik is insanely possessive of Christine.
His voice is so powerful. Ramin is the best Phantom for me, so is Sierra as Christine. Chemistry between them made the best harmony. (my personal bias)
This show was, hands down, the most dramatic performance of The Phantom of the Opera I've seen. After seeing the show live 4 times (and the movie countless times) these actors floored me. Tiny details totally changed the meaning of smaller scenes, and made me view things differently. Just amazing cast and crew!
@MeetStargazer.... May I ask where you saw the other live performances, if it's not too personal? I saw two live performances on Broadway. They were amazing shows and I have to admit the chandelier moment gave me goosebumps both times. For it to be able to come down and crash and then rise right over the audience was spectacular!! The acting in this performance was sublime though. I adore both "Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo!" I hate to admit but I wasn't crazy over the part played by Raoul though. Although his voice is wonderful, he was a little too aloof for my taste. I wish they would have had "Patrick Wilson" play the part as Raoul, he's supposed to be madly in love with Christine, which Wilson did to perfection. He's so gorgeous as well LoL 😍
@@kudubwrong7897 I was disappointed with this chandelier scene too. On Broadway (and my cities performing arts centers), there were so many moving parts of the stage that made everything so magical. I cried during the chandelier scene on Broadway!Honestly, the stage mechanics of this show wasnt the best. And Raoul was more aggressive than love-struck (not bad, but not what I wanted). But the actors brought something new to the table. Like, over the top dramatic and I loved that!
@@meetstargazer9961 I guess the reason it was simpler in decorations is because this concert took place in Royal Albert Hall and not in Her Majesty's Theatre. I mean these decorations here are not original. Or have it changed so much during the last decade? I remember seeing the Phantom in the early 2000s in Her Majesty's, and the chandelier was the same as nowadays.
Dad: Son what are you watching? Me: I'm listening to the Phantom of the Opera singing "The Phantom of the Opera" from the musical, "The Phantom of the Opera"
Is no one going to talk about the backing music? It's fantastic! I love the racing violins, the dramatic bassline, and just how it all perfectly complements Ramin and Sierra's voices! This would have been amazing to hear live...
YES!!!! I will write in my nacional language, Portuguese. Just if you want to use the Google translate INCRÍVEL!!! eu simplesmente amei essa orquestra!
3:35 I love how powerful and commanding Ramin's voice is when he says "My _ANGEL_ of music!" Most other Phantoms I've seen start this segment of the song very soft like they're trying to be smooth/seductive and build up from there, but it usually strikes me as a bit corny/cheesey. _This_ Phantom doesn't play games; he just cuts straight to the chase with that arresting growl and commands Christine to start singing, with a perfect blend of passion and menace.
I know what you mean. Ramin really commands his lines. He is so good at adding power and inflection while singing. Plus, he cries and screams so well. I’ve seen the play live a few times and the fake crying from those other actors was just terrible! Lol
Sierra is BEYOND AMAZING! What a set of PIPES! Notice how at 4:34, she’s in a trance, but that last note (E) really snapped her out of it somehow. She’s completely befuddled and in shock: “what on earth just came out of my mouth?! I didn’t know I could sing like that!” It’s a great touch, look how she even clutches her throat. This music is so EPIC
It's lip synced. From he's there the phantom...to the E6. That does not discredit how amazing her talent and skills are but it's why it sounds so perfect. This note is always lip synced to save the actress from vocal damage.
@@michaelwright1295 the E6 is definitely not sung live but I think certain other parts must also be pre-recorded for practical reasons. Compared to the other parts of the songs, there are moments when you can no longer hear Sierra's breathing. Like suddenly she's no longer out of breath despite just moving a lot or belting high notes continously. I think those are the pre-recorded bits. Definitely does not diminish how talented these people are though 😊
Phantom:SING MY ANGEL OF MUSIC!!!!!!!! Me :just so you khow i can all of the phantom of the opera songs Phantom: then sing them all Me:ok (starts singing) Past the point of no ritern............... In sleep he sang to me........... Angel or father, friend of phantom.............. .......(and continious to sing all of the songs
I want you to know that every time I watch this performance, I think of your comment and laugh when she's walking towards him while vocalizing. Congratulations. You have both ruined and enhanced my enjoyment of this incredible song.
4:40 : I love how Christine grasps at her throat after the high note, amazed at what the Phantom has been able to draw out of her. Meanwhile, Sierra Boggess (and anyone else who plays Christine) hits that note every night.
I’ve read that very rarely does the Christines actually sing the last note and it’s often pre-recorded to avoid straining their voice, which is understandable especially those who play this in a regular play (8/week).
4:42 love love LOVE the facial expressions Sierra does here as Christine. It’s almost as if the Phantom was pulling a voice out of her she didn’t even know she had. And is in complete shock. Incredible Acting !!!!!
Fun facts: They use body doubles to get to the walkway above so fast The high E is pre recorded as not to strain her voice The phantom disappears by reclining further back on the throne and a piece of black is inserted to hide him... Not that I’ve been obsessing over it since Friday
I had no idea that the high E was prerecorded! But it totally makes sense! I have tried singing that, I can get the high A, B F, G and high C, but the E is one note I can't get. But I deal with acid reflux damage on my vocal chords, so my high notes don't come out as often, I did sing music of the night the other day, and hit the high As for soar and Be, it felt so good, but the G, B and C are harder to hit these days.
Doesn't look like they're using body doubles here though. In the real stage show, there are three gangways going across the stage and as the Phantom and Christine walk off stage on one level, they reappear almost instantly on the level beneath. I'm guessing they didn't have those capabilities at the Royal Albert, so Ramin and Sierra are just walking back and forth on one gangway as it lowers.
I love the look he gives at 3:08. Like he's shocked she just spoke over him and said everything he was thinking. These two have such great chemistry within their performances and are so talented. I've watched this rendition countless times and will probably keep going with no regrets.
Phantom: “Sing! Sing for me!!!” Christine: “Wtf do you think I’ve been doing for the past 3 minutes?” Edit 2024: I still think this is the best version of this song (and whoever thought of putting an electric guitar in this theme was a total genius). I’d say either Ramin Karimloo or Michael Crawford is the best Phantom/Erik Overall, it’s impossible to give any sort of negativity towards everyone who works on the stage, behind the stage, and behind the scenes. The talent is unspeakably incredible, and The Phantom of the Opera musical is a pure masterpiece :)
Now I remember why I purposefully kept away from this particular staging of Phantom after having seen it first years ago. It’s like a drug that never quits. It never leaves me. Now, I’m obsessed again and can’t stop hearing Ramin and Sierra’s voices in my head. I can’t concentrate! I haven’t accomplished anything since the last 4 times I watched and rewatched the stream. 😍
Be assured that you will be fine. This is nothing to be ashamed of. We understand that the obsession and struggle to break free are real. You will be okay, ok?
I feel at 3:08, it's almost like a double take he does. It's like he didn't know she was going to sing, or sing that line to him and look at him. It just gives me chills everytime I watch that bit 🤷🏻♀️
Four things I love about this: 1) the little arm motion that Ramin/The Phantom does at 3:15 2) the hair slick he did so casually at 4:06 3) The singing 4) EVERYTHING!!!

I had never really known about the Phantom of the Opera, and I decided to give it a try on Saturday. I have listened to the soundtrack non-stop for 72 hours, and I'm planning on purchasing the exact same performance as a digital copy!
Christine at 4:36: Surprised about how high her note was The Phantom: Overwhelmed with love Also the Phantom at 4:37 : *Aight I'mma just aggressively bang these piano keys*
one thing i noticed was that the music the phantom uses to try to wake christine up was also the music for don juan triumphant so he was also trying to work on his opera
Ramin's acting, specially when Christine starts with the "aaah", can perfectly express Erik's feelings and the strong love and adoration he had to Christine. He really saw her as an angel, as a perfect being superior to him, which explains why he would do ANYTHING for her, even crimes! She had him at her hands. Not blaming Erik, but he could love himself a bit more. I mean, even when Christine broke his heart soul, he was STILL into her, i feel so bad to this man, bro
@@weirdmusickid6953 lol yeah people forget christine was only really just an adult when the events happened, the phantom took advantage of her and abused her trust
I do enjoy them singing their strange duet once again for us Edit: thought I'd share a true story here too, I have a candle with Ramin Karimloo printed on it, I call it Ramin Candleloo...
I love how this song is so beautifully written- it describes how the manipulation of the phantom controls Christine in a way that is desiring and passionate. How we somehow understand this love is forbidden, but to Christine is uncontrollable and it is up to fate
When Carlotta says that Christine is mad, you can see her facial expression turn to that of concern. She really was concerned that Christine might be unwell. In that moment we see the softer side of Carlotta.
Yeah I agree. Now that I’m older, I’m starting to consider Carlotta one of the saner people in this play. She knows there’s foul play going on the theatre for a young choir girl to upstage her, a professional vocalist. So she walks out of a her job until she’s promised a better deal. I mean that’s self-respect right there.
@@plumppomelo True, although it is true that Carlotta was a bit rude. Christine was pretty good, and Carlotta was a little rude due to her having Christine as competition. But I do like that we got to see a more concerned side of her, cause you usually only see the rude side.
I also love the moment in the 25th anniversary when the phantom makes Carlotta croak on stage and we see Christine look compassionate and worried about Carlotta even tho she just called her a toad.
Actually, I've never liked the phantom of the opera, until I watched this version, I was attracted by these two actors and actress, espeacially the actor, so powerful voice! amaziing.
@@leeheedungie there's no message... it's a small adaptation of a scene on the book. I recomend you to read it, it's very cool and shows way more of the relationship between them (you end up not liking the ghost).
You can always tell when a performer has a deep understanding of the character...Ramin definitely embodies the Phantom (his mannerisms, subtle movements, facial expressions, and how he feels and sings the songs). I really love how they ended this show too with Christine returning the ring and crying over their hands and then beginning to sing "All I Ask of You" on the stairs half-turned as if she was singing to the Phantom, unwilling to leave for an instant, before Raoul leads her out. I love this production and so glad I have it on DVD.

For some reason, I still find Ramin's phantom attractive. Like, the makeup is phenomenal, and I know to most he probably looks deformed and ugly, but to me he's gorgeous. It's actually a bit confusing; perhaps it's his showstopping voice.
I think no matter what Ramin could never be ugly, he's just that beautiful to start with. Also, and this is just my opinion, but since this show had to be filmed so up close to the actors faces they had to get the makeup just right on everyone. It couldn't be that typical stage makeup that is super exaggerated and harsh so people can see it from far away, it had to be subtle and with no harsh lines or colors.
Fun fact: the Christine on the bridge was played by Katie Hall (she’s also played Christine in the UK Tour and also in Les Mis as Cosette in the West End).
FROM THE SCREEN TO THE RING TO THE PEN TO THE KING WHERE'S MY CROWN THAT'S MY BLING ALWAYS DRAMA WHEN I RING you didn't tell me *what* to sing, so you get thick of it
I was today years old when I found out the people on the bridge are not Ramin and Sierra and are instead body doubles. It makes sense because how can it be physically possible to go down and ride the boat in that short amount of time without them being out of breath
THEY DONT USE DOUBLES YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT AND THEY ANSWERED THAT QUESTION IF THEY USED THAT AND NO THEY DIDNT! Sierra said something like this, “it was really painful to run up those 3 stories and sing and then run down again” they didn’t use doubles
@@Xushish she stated several times that it was for down once more. Katie Hall has said also several times that it was her during the title song as Sierra and Ramin wouldn’t have had time to get to the bridge. Also they wouldn’t have been able to use a recording because people were watching it live so it just made more sense to use doubles. Obviously in the down once more it is them but in the title song they use a clip from later during the boat to make it look like it’s them crossing the bridge.

I love the way Ramin sings the title song, and also the music of the night. Unlike any other Phantom, he is not so puffed up, or particularly concerned, with how powerful his voice should sound, or how good he makes the Octave leap, he doesn't even make any kind of acknowledgement to the audience. He seems to be singing into the Phantom, seeing only Christine and how he feels about her and himself, and I love it.

I've honestly forgotten how wonderful this production was. I've watched the whole show 7 times during the 48 hours. Sierra and Ramin are the best duo for POTO. Their interpretation of the show and the way they express those tiny details is breathtaking. Sierra fears the Phantom but is mesmerized by him all the same, while Ramin sees Christine as a mother figure, a lover, and a voice to show the world that despite his appearance, he has something everyone should applaud. The way Ramin expresses the mixed feeling of love and loathing for betraying him in Down Once More.. Damn. It was the first time I felt that the Phantom could almost kill her for a moment. And you could clearly see that Sierra was frightened as hell, but couldn't resist his voice singing to her. POTO was always high on the list for my all-time favorite musicals, but the Sierra-Ramin cast pushed the 25th production of POTO all the way at #1.
I get that the phantom of the opera has been around since the 80s, but I swear, this is my favorite version. Both leads did a fantastic job and I really can't accept anything else since.
My dad is a huge phantom fan and when I was a kid he showed me the movie (2004) because he loved it so much. I absolutely hated it. I talked to my mom and she hated it to. I thought the phantom of the opera just wasn’t for me and I would never be a fan of theatre. (I know I was a foolish kid). Then when I was a freshman in high school I was browsing Netflix and I saw this and just decided to watch a few minutes of it. I became absolutely obsessed. I watched it every single night before I went to bed, I listened to the music on the bus, i read the sheet music during classes and learned it on violin, I memorized all the lyrics and choreography to the point that I could play it in my head if I didn’t have access to the movie or soundtrack. I fell so in love with it that I joined the theatre club just so I could express my love for theatre and POTO. I was in theatre for 3 yrs in high school and it changed my life. Then in college I wrote a creative essay about how watching POTO changed my life. I even convinced my mom and grandma to watch this version and now their fans also (not as extreme as I am though) I’ve actually totally surpassed my dad when it comes obsession with POTO. To me POTO was more than just good music. I needed a production that was believable and potent. Idk if Sierra and Ramin are the best because it’s so subjective. Everyone has unique tastes and that’s great. But I can honestly say without any doubt that this production changed my life and formed my adolescent years. I had no friends my freshman year. Falling in love with POTO gave me the edge I needed to be someone in high school. I will forever be grateful to this production because of that. This show was, hands down, the most dramatic performance of The Phantom of the Opera I've seen. After seeing the show live 4 times (and the movie countless times) these actors floored me. Tiny details totally changed the meaning of smaller scenes, and made me view things differently. Just amazing cast and crew!
Totally agree👌
"Tiny details totally changed the meaning of smaller scenes". I know right! This production is the best.
@@meetstargazer9961 I guess the reason it was simpler in decorations is because this concert took place in Royal Albert Hall and not in Her Majesty's Theatre. Most other Phantoms I've seen start this segment of the song very soft like they're trying to be smooth/seductive and build up from there, but it usually strikes me as a bit corny/cheesey.
Lol

@@themidascurse4048I thought only the e6 was dubbed. Everything else sounds genuine. You can pick up on that better with headphones
@@michaelwright1295 the E6 is definitely not sung live but I think certain other parts must also be pre-recorded for practical reasons. Compared to the other parts of the songs, there are moments when you can no longer hear Sierra's breathing.
Not true. Since the beginning of this show the high notes are pre-recorded.

4:42 love love LOVE the facial expressions Sierra does here as Christine. It’s almost as if the Phantom was pulling a voice out of her she didn’t even know she had. And is in complete shock.
Incredible Acting !!!!!
Fun facts:
They use body doubles to get to the walkway above so fast
The high E is pre recorded as not to strain her voice
The phantom disappears by reclining further back on the throne and a piece of black is inserted to hide him...
I did wonder if they were body doubles! Thanks for solving the disappearing phantom mystery for me too
Doesn't look like they're using body doubles here though.
Amy M they did get up there awfully quick 🤷🏼♀️
Amy M I don’t remember who the phantom double was I think his name is Thor, but Katie hall was the Christine double
I love the look he gives at 3:08. Like he's shocked she just spoke over him and said everything he was thinking. These two have such great chemistry within their performances and are so talented. I've watched this rendition countless times and will probably keep going with no regrets.
Phantom: 🎶 _"We finish each other's..."_
Christine: _"...Sandwiches..."_ 🎵
gineriella Great catch!
Right before that, at 3:04 you see her realization of who she's with.
Same! The nuance
Oooh, that’s a great little touch.
Phantom: “Sing! Sing for me!!!”
Christine: “Wtf do you think I’ve been doing for the past 3 minutes?”
Edit 2024: I still think this is the best version of this song (and whoever thought of putting an electric guitar in this theme was a total genius). I’d say either Ramin Karimloo or Michael Crawford is the best Phantom/Erik

Wait, what lol
@Victoriess no this is for down once more
THEY DONT USE DOUBLES YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT AND THEY ANSWERED THAT QUESTION IF THEY USED THAT AND NO THEY DIDNT! Sierra said something like this, “it was really painful to run up those 3 stories and sing and then run down again” they didn’t use doubles
But they could have used a recording and they had plenty of time to go down stairs
@@Xushish she stated several times that it was for down once more. To serve me
To sing for my music
My music
I love Sarah Brightman and I've seen her sing this song live - but I believe Sierra is the perfect Christine. Her voice is so perfect, powerful and angelic. Ramin is so masculine and powerful
Ramin and Sierra are amazing, and they never fail to amaze me with their amazing voices. Ramin's Phantom is so emotional, and he tugs on your heartstrings. Sierra has an amazing vocal range, and together, they compliment each other.
4:48 This is the greatest delivery of this line Ive heard. Love the way he attacks it and put growl into it as well
Christine’s voice is INSANE
In sleep he sang to me,
In dreams he came...
that voice which calls to me
and speaks my name...
And do I dream again?
For now I find the Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside my mind...
Sing once again with me
our strange duet...
My power over you
grows stronger yet...
And though you turn from me,
to glance behind,
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside your mind...
Those who have seen your face
draw back in fear..
I am the mask you wear..
It's me they hear...
Your/My spirit
and your/my voice,
in one combined:
the Phantom of the Opera is there
inside your/my mind...
He's there,
the Phantom of the Opera...
Beware
the Phantom of the Opera...
In all your fantasies,
you always knew
that man and mystery
were both
in you...
And in this labrinth,
where night is blind,
the Phantom of the Opera is there/here
inside your/my mind
Sing, my Angel of Music!
He's there, the Phantom of the Opera...

I was obsessed. I spent 80% of my time talking about The Phantom of the Opera with Ramin and Sierra, and in the other 20% I was hoping someone would talk about it so I could talk some more.

Chris Mann was pretty good (saw him live a couple years ago). He winked at me--sat in the front row. Nothing is as good a feeling as the flames heating the face. Also, I love the man (no pun intended)
This anniversary show has to be the best, most perfect performance of The Phantom of The Opera ever. I've watched it soooo many times. The production value is top tier and the actor's performances are just next level.

I had no idea this tune was from phantom of the opera, nor did I know any of the lyrics, yet it was still instantly and completely recognisable to me. Felt like I'd been hit in the face.

Always, love 💯💯💯🥰

Ramin and Sierra with always be my phantom and Christine
I love your story and it makes me so happy to read it but I gotta say every time I read POTO my idiot brain went Pirates Of The Opera 😭😭😭

Don’t feel bad. I’ve been a “Phan” for 30 years and was so excited when the movie came out… and I pretty much hated it. Hollywood has a tendency to take great musicals and ruin them.
I loved watching this performance this weekend. At least 20 of the views on the full show were just mine. I couldn't get enough. Gorgeous location, thrilling performances, amazing musical.
I watched it 4 times 😂 I'm kinda lost without it now
I watched it 8 times and cried every time.
@@audrey6995 I watched it three times. The first time, I was like eh, it's okay. The second time, I was like oh wait, this is really great, and the third time I was sobbing by the end.
why am i crying? i just love this so much. it’s heartbreaking i’ll never get to see a potp performance in person, but thankfully there’s things like these that will keep the memory of such an amazing show alive.
God i love Sierra's Christine so much, she legit looks scared while singing those high notes at the end. She even makes me feel guilty for hearing her achieve that level and at some point i have a morbid curiosity to know how much higher her voice can get while at the same time i wish she could stop. Such a great singer and actress
I love how the smoke appears to be his power being projected with her voice at 4:26.
Makes me think of Ursula taking/stealing Ariel's voice in The Little Mermaid
Yes that's because she was Ariel too!
I bet it's a tough job making the very handsome Ramin look really ugly.
Even with all the prosthetics and mask he's still very handsome 🥺
I know. At the end, even with his grey hair and deformed face, when he says "An eternity of This before your eyes", I answer "Ok sure, I wouldn't mind" lol
He’s such a pretty boy! Alongside Peter Joback!
Lmao the first time I saw the show, I missed the part where the wig came off and I was so confused. Like he just suddenly had (almost) no hair and I had no idea why no one else was questioning it.
@@annmariegayz2973 lmao
Been obsessed with this musical all weekend. Thank you Andrew Lloyd Webber for making my expectations of romance include fog, dungeons lit by candles and accompanied by amazing opera singing. No human man can ever suffice now...unless he manages to sing this in a duet with me and lure me to his underground lair which is - need I mention - highly unlikely.
Such masterclass. Dont think anyone can top Ramin and Sierra. I am obsessed since the livestream y'all have no idea.
The way he clenches his fist and says "SING!" is literally why I still live
Ramin and Sierra, you are the BEST phantom and Christine in my mind. I could not stopping listening to this musical since Saturday. This music has magic!!!
