Designed by the renowned 19th century architect Joseph Paxton, Mentmore Towers is a fine example of the 'Jacobethan' revivalist style popular at the time. Built for Baron Mayer de Rothschild, the grand Victorian home harks back to the glory days of the Italian Renaissance. It also kick started a period when the famous banking family built a succession of impressive properties in the immediate Home Counties area.

I lived there for a week in 1978, and a month in 1992, when it belonged to the Transcendental Meditation organization. There was a strong feeling of power in the place. It is supposedly located on the intersection of "ley lines" of power. Whatever the explanation, it was tangibly felt.

Yes that's the building where "Eyes wide shut" was filmed. And stanley Kubrick died for it.

It was only the exterior though and Simon Halabi owned it during production (and still does as far as I know). Interior scenes are Elveden Hall and also Highclere Castle.

Fidelio. That was the password to get through the gate but a password wasn't required to enter the mansion. If Bill belonged to the global elite society and had been officially invited then he would have known that. That's just the crazy little occult world the Rothschilds and their friends live in. Mentmore Towers is a Rothschild mansion regardless of who is living there and Stanley Kubrick wanted to use it for that reason because I seriously doubt he would have been given permission by the Rothschilds to shoot scenes in one of the estate homes in which they were living at the time. Elveden Hall interior shots looked awesome and were quite fitting, especially for that ritual ceremony.

@@AdiiS it’s left abandoned and parts of the interior is rotting away now. Those rich pricks dnt deserve this place. The guest bedrooms are small a.f though and so are the upstairs hallway

That's actually inside the Elveden Hall in East Anglia, not at Mentmore. Exterior is Mentmore, then a small connecting set where Tom Cruise walks in as Bill Harford, built at Pinewood Studios to visually connect the outside of Mentmore to the inside of Elveden. Then yet a third location, also interior only, is Highclere Castle (Hampshire-Berkshire border), during the orgy scenes.
