If you ignore the modern things in the house, you could pretend you stepped back in time. Also I love the music , I feel mansion/manor tours need classical music as an accompaniment it just fits.
You mean heat and electricity? 🤣 we went home every Christmas from the states and my grandparents lived within a mile of Dublin and they had no heat, just fireplaces and this was the 1970's. The fire places were lit in the bedrooms a few hours before bedtime and you needed to pull the bedding down to get it warm. That was the only thing I missed from home. Edit- the property sold in 1987 after my grandfather's passing and it still didn't have heat yet.
I don't know why, but this layout of the house gave me de ja vu. Like I once lived in a house similar to this. As a servant or a very lucky rich person.
When they were filming the bedrooms I realized that if I actually lived in a home like this I would have no desire for televisions or computers. The attention to detail is so interesting and is abundant throughout with all of the furnishings, artwork and embellishments, as well as the picturesque grounds and views. The builders, landscapers and decorators really did an amazing job! :) I am curious how much of what we see here is original.
Lovely home. From the days when people stayed with friends/relatives before deluxe hotels were started. Out in the country owners wanted a houseful of guests and entertained them. And the house supported itself off its fields, mines, foreign trade. This one has been restored and given modern amenities. Brilliant. I’ll be there Friday.
You can stay here! In the main house if you here for a wedding but just for a weekend staycation one of the many on-site cottages! Check out the instagram @onlythorntonmanor or the tiktok @thorntonmanor🤍
My heavens. Tears welled up in my eyes as we entered and began a tour of this place. Immediately upon entering the front gatehouse and seeing the facade of the manor, I noted the very good taste of the architect to have ample windows for lots of natural light. Too old of structures seem to be scant on windows, leaving the interior darkened and more dungeon like. I was absolutely elevated by the fine detail of decor, decoration, the moldings, artwork, paint colors, wood work, the artisanship and craftsmanship. What an absolute delight would be living and spending time, being creative in such a gem and masterpiece. In my ideal life, I’d design and build such masterpieces.
The tiny and infrequent fenestration in older structures was because glass, esp of any size was as yet, not really done. They could not do it! They didn't know how! Hence, the lack of large windows. Which were way, way expensive anyway!!!
I would spend my day writing romance novels and letters on this window desk 8:26 drinking tea in the garden and running in the wind in a white dress 9:16, telling my husband the children are outside playing 6:41, and planning my next conquest on a map in the middle of that room 6:05 I really should stop watching so many keira knightly movies...
I love this house. How beautiful. Pretty close to a dream home. It looks like all those houses in period dramas that are dreamy. I love the light from the windows and it's spaciousness. Makes it feel like you can breathe freely and easily. The video was so well made and a relaxing, smooth experience. No grating, boring host of the video (im looking at you, abandoned house youtubers). No annoying jilty camera movements. Good pacing. Better than any real estate video and castle tour video. I dont know why, I just dont like the feel of all those videos. I feel they spend either too little time on the inside, the interiors are boring and ugly, or the mood offputting. Or Im not at all interested in the people that happened to live there and they go on and on with the stories. This is probably my favorite house tour ever. Thank you.
The other half says: What a gorgeous home, this one feels so right, what I WOULD GIVE TO OWN THIS REMARKABLE HOME. I had been looking for home tour like this one for quite some time. I love the clarity! The interior architecture seems to respect and maintain the home's historical integrity. The millwork throughout is just amazing! I love clients who desire versions of homes like this one!
The house has been refit to host events, which has been done with reasonable fidelity to it's history. The downstairs "dressing rooms" adjacent to the function rooms are surprisingly nice. If the hideous bar with beer tap in the ballroom is a hire, it should never...be...seen...again. Even though the ballroom is an addition from around the turn of the century, it makes an effort to fit in, which that bar most definitely does not. The best surprise was the symmetrical garden front. I can't help wondering if this was once the arrival front, and if the original hall was divided with a floor into lower and upper rooms.
That bar is like a great big herpes lesion on the face of a beautiful young woman. On the other hand it would be hard to miss after one has had several drinks and thinks one needs another. I would imagine that guests at a wedding here would be well versed in etiquette and would treat the premises as they would their own homes.
@@williamcalhoun1090 Especially when compared to the country house style, which relies on a certain amount of clutter to imply generations of acquiring things. The manor is old and beautiful. The manor is so enormous that it could be made into a bed and breakfast. Or, hotel. It also looks like a college university.
I think it's considered a castle, not a manor. I once stayed at a 12,000+ sqft manor in on west Virginia. It was a beautiful good condition huge house withe a fancy master staircase, a very expensive baby grand piano, several acres of land, and 5 stories. It was also available for purchase under 300,000 dollars.
Love the architectural elements---the windows especially---A very large house but liveable---Not cavernous like so many house like this are and I can see me holding a glass of champagne walking around the gardens---Would be quite content
Stunning.. Those passage ways outside are fantastic.. Some ornate lighting poles at night or the likes would make the place romantic and magical adding to it's mystique and charm, unless it is meant to stay stock original.. Lighting embedded on the stones outside would make it so enchanting at night.. ❤️
Thank you for that info. It looks like Tudor exterior and Georgian interior, which may have been the inspirations for a manor built in the mid 19th century.
Minimalism has its own appeal, but by far, vintage charm is so much more. It is a case of more is more, less is less. Magnificent mansion surely this is

Pleasant tour of one of the UK's sort of Gothic revival exterior meets a faux evolutionary interior, the pretense that it had "been in the family" for centuries and had received stylistic updates, e.g. mill worked 18th century panelling here and victoriana influences there admixed with retro mullioned windows....terribly amusing to those of us with authentic old piles. However, the tour is delightful and the ground floor common areas panelling seems to have French influences which are charming.

Exactly the type of Manor I would imagine in a romantic history novel.

Retro-fitting the entire building would be interesting though. I mean like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and networking
It is a folly house, designed to appear much older than its 1800s date.
