- Peter Sheppard and Keith Day welcome us into Wolterton Hall, an 18th-century English country house in Norfolk, England. Both Peter & Keith have been steadily restoring and redecorating Wolterton Park since they bought the estate in 2016 - bringing the state rooms back to their original glory and creating beautiful, practical living spaces.
Watch the full episode of Design Notes as we tour Wolterton Hall and Peter & Keith explain how they live in the Palladian rooms of the piano nobile, from the State Bathroom with its alabaster-panelled bath to the Saloon that looks out on 500 acres of parkland.

Do we really have to have serious art blurred out because it shows the human body? These gentlemen are highly cultured and sophisticated, this is a design, history and arts film, there nothing remotely indecent about their paintings. I assume this is RUclips’s American Puritanism.
Unfortunately it is. 😞
Absolutely agree, insulting.
Of course, one can’t do show or say anything anymore.. thoroughly ridiculous
Overstatement
Naive me! I thought is was blurred out to protect the owners from being targeted by burglars.
These two gentlemen have breathed life back into that manor house in such a beautiful way. Bravo!
yes they have bravo indeed😊
@@benhassan11 Tearing it down or letting it further decay would accomplish nothing historically. Find your happy spot Ben. Giving the world joy instead of anger and hate is a good start towards righting wrongs. It begins with you.
@@evertstuiver2805 There are cruel people out there who rejoice in the misery of others, including children. You are one of them. Sick
@@benhassan11 No, it’s not. You’re looking for things to be angry about. Why not focus your energy on a real cause like helping the earthquake victims who could use your help instead of manufacturing problems where there are none. That’s asking too much of someone who is permanently affronted by every misdeed, real or imagined. Your hand- wringing is misguided and juvenile.
@@susan3070 Susie, How about the British children who were brutally exploited when this monstrosity was built?
Those children needed help as well. Where is your humanity? What has happened to you to have evolved to such low level?
Glorious home. But what prude at H&G censored the paintings?
I’m glad somebody’s living my life.
We bought a cottage, not loved for many years and my husband convinced me we are the ones to bring it back to life. Well done to these guys for making this a grand home again.
I deeply love and appreciate historic homes being restored and saved, I am doing one myself even though it's just our village's oldest farm, but I just can not see it derrelect. What an enormous labor of love and to keep it up there after, never mind just the electric bill. Beautiful job guys.
I absolutely LOVE when you release these kind of videos focused on heritage british houses and british interior designers!

Those fireplaces! ❤ Those hardwood floors! ❤ That BATH @0:48! ❤
I remember being amazed at photos of Strawberry Hill in my Art History text in college. I'm so pleased to see this long abandoned home coming back to life. Peter and Keith have done a wonderful job restoring and maintaining the 'state rooms' in period style, while their private rooms reflect their own lifestyle. I love the idea of 'junk shop finds' next to fine art; I've done something of the sort as well. It does my heart good to learn that they have purchased the Walpole family portraits, library, and furniture, keeping these important historic collections in their original place, rather than auctioned off and scattered to the four winds. These tours are wonderful.
Can't believe this is the UK. Another world. Well done, gentlemen!
I love the yellow silk walls in the Palladian room. Such an antidote to the coldness that so many people have gotten conned into.
I remember the kitchen winning the award - the best kitchen ever!
I love the idea of putting the portraits all together in one room.
Awesome job.😊
Blurring out the artwork at 10:02 really is terribly prudish.
My thoughts exactly.
It's always a thrill to see what happens when people love color, and have experience and confidence with what they do. There is no mistaking it.
I have no words.... 😉
This house is WONDERFUL, Amazing, stylish. It is perfect!!! I will come and stay for 2,3,7,12,20 nights....
Gorgeous!
Grand, sumptuous, and very tasteful.....they have done justice to this magnificent house. Bravo 👏
An incredible house. Well appointed and truly livable.
Why were the brief glimpses of some of the few nude pictures and drawings blurred? There was a time - quite recently, actually - when civilised people laughed and scoffed at prudes and puritans who couldn't cope with an image of the naked body. To think that we have returned to the shame and censorship of a hundred years ago is an affront to anyone who cares about art - and I'm sure is especially grievous to the exceptionally creative custodians of this beautiful house.
Hear hear! Well said.
Those carved fireplace mantles are a triumph... soooo beautiful and decadent!
I could spend all day in the gold room. Absolutely stunning
The most beautiful fabrics on the walls and chairs I have ever seen. Truly a work of art.
I adore manor houses. I must have grown up in one in a previous life.
My gosh....what a stunning place and what a lucky pair of dogs!!
Love the coordinated socks
This is simply a magnificent manor! I can’t believe what you have done to bring it back to life. It looks like your family has been there for 300 yrs. My heart is pounding! I love all the family portraits put in one room together! So special!
I love the symmetry, something very comforting about balance, soothing.
It must be marvelous to live in such a simply stunning home!
Brilliant !!!
Yeah, also think about the slave force and the exploitation of natural materials employed to orchestrate this monstruosity.
@@benhassan11 slave force? Exploitation of natural materials? Because that doesn’t continue today? You don’t buy anything made overseas from underpaid exploited workers of colour? 🧐
I'm so shocked this house is beautiful. And I can't believe Lord Chomdondeley allowed them to buy some of his family collection. This is Great thanks so much for sharing what dream.
It's because it wasn't owned by him but by another branch of the family.
What a treat! with two charming gentlemen who know how to enjoy life - with style.
I could easily watch a series were each room is an episode. The history, architecture, furniture, it’s all magnificent! But the way they tell the stories is absolutely captivating. Love what they have done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Mentioning the brutal child labor and exploitation carried out to build this monstrosity would had been some sort or relief.
Sublime and beautiful. What a privilege to own a house like that. Custodians for the next generation. Glorious and beautiful things every where. What an absolute joy!
What a wonderful rejuvenation of a magnificent home. The Palladian window is stunning. Thank you for sharing your home.
INCREDIBLE! Kind of funny how we see so many people showing their homes..and then two blokes from England blow everyone away with their...are you ready for it: 18th Century English Manor home. Well played gentlemen.
Breathtaking. I would never leave home. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
A treasure and a treat to wake up today and see this wonderful video. The house and it's owners are simply fantastic. Well done! House and Garden you have made my morning.
You breathed new life into the house....Thank you for sharing your journey...❤
Stunned at all the beauty and amazing design skills and talent . Impeccable taste . I think I would primarily live in the main restroom ( the bathtub 🛀 ) , the magnificent library , the main bedroom , and the kitchen . I would rarely leave the library . It still astonishes me that some people are fortunate enough to actually live like this . Again , Impeccable style and taste . 💐
I wish they would adopt me so we could have dinner parties and learn about furniture and art ❤
Beautiful, sympathetic restoration. Bravo!
Absolutely beautiful home. Brought into the 21st c whilst maintaining all the elements that matter and a bit of fun here and there too.... perfection. Thank you for sharing.
The designers have managed to staddle time and effectively connect the old with the new like Siamese twins.
The entire property feels not only restored to its former Grandeur but more importantly it feels Alive and Welcoming.
Stunning.
So many people try to imitate a palace inside of their homes. This really IS a palace. Glad you so lovingly restored it!
Well done.
The house is gorgeous. These thoroughly pleasant men have reclaimed a sad old house and turned it into a home.
This has to be the most stunning and thoughtful restoration I have ever seen. The maintenance and upkeep monetarily must be ….well….challenging….. but they are so energized with it all that it does not seem to be a burden to them in the least. Wonderful!
✨👏✨👏✨👏✨👏✨👏✨👏✨👏
Everyone should hire them
The fireplaces and the glazed wool wallpaper are astounding. What a gift these gentlemen have for using fabrics and textures and the way that it plays with the light. It's rich and beautiful.
God !... Love, love, love.. and that kitchen concept!... Passionate, happy people... I mean I was able to feel that serene, laid-back atmosphere myself while watching.. enchanted...
That is absolutely gorgeous! That house could not have come into better hands to give it life again. Bravo !
This must be the poshest house I’ve seen, I’m so in love with it 🎆
One of my family’s ancestral homes in Ireland is now a refugee reception centre. My family sold it to an order of nuns in the 1920s before leaving Ireland for Africa. My twin brother now lives nearby and he took me there and we were allowed to see some of the reception rooms. Our family portraits from the early 1700s onwards covered the walls. It felt weirdly fitting.
What an absolutely charming tale with a charming pair 💘
Most beautiful home I have ever seen. Favourite part...the kitchen
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS VIDEO. SUCH GREAT DESIGNERS WHO HAVE GIVEN THIS OLD STATELY PALLADIUM HOME A NEW LIFE. BRAVO!
Incredible what one can achieve on a budget...
haha
What a comfortably modern home.
Well done to you both. The house is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you for not ruining this house. Absolutely beautiful.
What a crazy thing to put the same fabric from the cushions to the walls! How extravagant and distasteful!
love that it is not cluttered with stuff
I love the 18th century, and I've never seen period rooms look so warm and liveable and lived-in. The balance of design and space, period and modern life, is perfection. I'm so in love I'm in pain right now.
This house seems both grand and comfortable, which isn’t something I usually see in these manor houses. Their skill in organizing and decorating that big girl is perfection! ❤
Well done gentlemen!! So many superb design choices and the Palladian design of the house gives it an innate elegance.
It is an awesome Miracle these 2 men came into this Great House and breathed fresh Life into it once more. KUDOS! Stunning. Cheers from Canada!
I love the House. The Bathtub room is fantastic.
The Pugs are so sweet.
Great video,
Jeff
Beautiful.
I love this place , marvellous job !
Living on the edge of style and warmth. The historic aspect is just gravy.
This house is magnificent,This couple have bought amazing life to it but although it is huge,It feels homely and liveable.I just love it.❤️Chrissy
I love people who restores old homes back to their original state. This house is a piece of art. You gentlemen did a phenomenal job making it beautiful again.
Grateful to all relevant to this video, high quality material indeed.
Do these gentlemen know what an amazing expressive life they lead?!
So tasteful.❤
Gorgeous
Their matching pink socks
OH MY GOODNESS SUCH A PLEASURE TO WATCH THIS VLOG BEAUTIFUL INTERIORS !
What a special treat! Thank you 😊
Wow. Gorgeous, livable, elegant and comfortable.
How can I get an invitation to one of the parties in this house? I would take the first plane from Saratov Russia. The most fascinating mixture of eras in one beautiful house. Breathtaking video tour. Thanks!
GORGEOUS!!!!!’❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my goodness, I'm in love with this beautiful mansion.
As someone who lives on the Piano Nobile of a palazzo in Florence I’m very much hoping that the success and good taste of these gentlemen is something I can look forward to myself 😂
I am absolutely rabid with envy... but definitely would not have been able to do such a wonderful job of refurbishing. An excellent demonstration of taste!
You guys are awesome. The interiors are genius. Great experience seeing this beautiful place!
Great place, LOVE the old Piano nobile part. Great antiques!
Soooooo lovely!!!;❤
They really brought it back to life, such an amazing accomplishment. Makes me wonder though just how much space is needed for two people without children? If you're not constantly entertaining, it must get quite lonely here since the house is so big.
Wonderful home !!!! Love the details and the atmosphere ❤
My favorite room hands down is that gorgeous kitchen. Wow! The natural light is so perfect in that room, and that pale bluish gray color on the walls is delightful. Truly, everything about that room is pure perfection: elegant, subtle, minimalist, inviting, and ever so comforting and relaxing. I don't think I have ever seen an interior decor so perfectly realized to suit a room's intended purpose.
it seems to me a lifelong project. each room deserves an episode and it takes a documentary to review all rooms.
Kudos to the gentlemen for bringing the house back to life. Its lovely 😍
I do like the golden fabrics.
Magnificent
These guys are my hero's.
Entranced completely with The life of these amazing Gentlemen ,
The home has taken my breath away, The History and Grandeur

I get so excited when your videos pop up on my feed. This is utterly stunning. The painting’s & tapestries have so much history. The yellow room was beautiful. I loved the cosy kitchen. Well done for making this historic house a wonderful home. Remarkable
Marvellous to see little snippets of each room. So good of them to have bought the family portraits and library contents. Wonderful but too short a film. I'd love to hear these two gents tell us more about their home and treasures.
How it feel to live in a Manor House so beautiful like that.....only in my dreams😢
These gentlemen have wonderful taste and were brave too to tackle such an enormous project.
Beautiful Home
Thank you for saving the old manor. I think the deep set windows and the beautiful woodwork and molding of the windows very much adds to the elegance. So much better than modern windows that are almost flush with the wall.
