"People want you to pay more for their bad bathrooms" oh lord what a quote 🤣🤣 I adore these looks into people's homes so much. Much of it is not my style, but it's so wonderful to see homes truly lived in and suited to someone's tastes !!
That so resonated with me. When I was house hunting - many years ago now, I quickly realized if I chose certain houses I would be paying for someone else’s renovations that were completely unacceptable to me. That prompted a new strategy of looking for unrenovated homes. I lived for many years in a house that had been completely renovated by us and was totally to our liking!
I loved that quote too and repeated to my other half 🤣
What pleasure!
Yes! It's the worst. House hunting crushes my heart when I see beautiful historic properties that have been utterly molested inside and modernised in the most hideous way. Once those gorgeous architectural details have gone, not only is the atmosphere changed forever but the asking price is always sky high; they want people to pay top whack only to have to spend a king's ransom gutting the place and renovating top to toe in order to disgorge the monstrous 'directional' contemporary fittings and fixtures from the grand old property. When bad interior designers are allowed to put their stamp so forcefully onto a high-priced property it's INFURIATING. How do you decorate and put your own things around such aggressively, and comprehensively modernised interior renovations? The ugly built-in features and directional interior design flourishes are everywhere and so oppressive that they're impossible for anybody with taste and character to work around. I pass on all these properties because I can't bring myself to go to the top end of my budget for an admittedly beautifully executed (but hideous) renovation, knowing I now need to find the money to entirely rip out brand new fittings, paint, fixtures (and bathrooms, yes) and re-do it all. Defeats the purpose of buying a 'turn key' home doesn't it? Whyyyyy do all these developers do this?
I too just love his comment. He says it so perfectly. I cringe at all of the listings that say "renovated" or "updated." I just know these updates are probably going to be awful in almost every aspect. Plus, these days everything will be grey and white. I always hunt for the untouched property.
I love how things that are broken or faded can be considered charming if you're posh enough.
I think this especially counts for a cluttered luck as well
That's a terribly middle class comment, hahaha. YOU decide your aesthetics dear, nobody else. Some of my most interesting and ancient pieces were thrifted for nothing.
"this is absolutely a disgusting piece" KILLED ME!! I definitely have some disgusting pieces I love as well haha
😄 My mom found a very old clay bunny, it is painted awful and has a hole in the side. She hates it and can't get rid of it because she loves it. She said nobody else will want it and it will end up in the trash.
Thank God, another Design Notes video! Maybe it's the pandemic, but there have not been enough of these lately. My favorite thing is to pause on each new shot and study the color.
Karl you're my spirit animal. I totally agree with you, I do the same. I study everything too. There's a realistic strawberry vase from Latzio Living which I tracked down after pausing on a video. I had no idea where it was from but eventually found the vase on the above website. I'm like the David Attenborough of soft furnishings and artwork.😂
What an utterly charming home, looks so well loved and put together, excellent taste. Very much my kind of place and style.
I live with a compulsive book buyer. I don't know where to put them anymore, and when I hang out with him at a flea market or he comes back from a visit to a bookstore, I sometimes feel desperate 😆 So you can't imagine how much your landing, with its piles of books, comforts me! Thank you so much for the visit: your house is lovely.
Fellow book addict here. I feel your pain, LOL, but books.are.everything!
I'm going to be watchibg this over and over..... wow, I would be so happy to have half of their style, know-how and resources.... so amazingly charming- a visual feast!!!! Thank you so much for sharing.
Oh i totally agree with you. Those who say less is more are off their rockers. Less is less, full stop !! I'm going to look at it again too😊
I just love homes like this, filled with hunted treasures, tons of textiles, cozy spaces, and eclectic artwork!
I’m in love with the character, color and charm of this home. Everything seems to have a history and a story, not bought in a big box store. Thank you for sharing this amazing home.
Finally someone who mentions the right atmospheric conditions for artwork and adapts their decorations accordingly. This makes me happy to see, a beautiful, considered home that doesn't ruin beautiful antiques and artworks by keeping them in unsuitable places.
Absolutely correct: “People want you to pay for their bad bathrooms”. And by the way, kitchens, too!
✨🌞✨
Found this video just in time! I am packing/dispersing my home ready for a move to smaller more managable house next month. Spent today agonising over too many books and what to do about my collection of vintage toys/fabrics/rugs/nicnacks. After seeing this lovely home I am taking everything with me and squashing it all in. I now have the courage to stand up and say - this is my new home, these are my things and I love them!
I love the line”Well I could be collecting diamonds”. They do take up less space! What a collection special finds🌺
I am pleased to see a house as crammed full of significant ‘stuff’ as mine, right down to the stacked books. Just love this house.
That dining room is really exquisite. One of the more successful interiors done in 'English maximalism". The beautiful colours pull it together. I also like the fact that while there are some really nice pieces, none of the antiques or art work is really grand luxe, it looks relatively attainable in terms of cost.
I am just always amazed when people can take entirely disparate stuff with conflicting colors, patterns and shapes and make it work. Everything here looks a bit wild, flamboyant and surprisingly calm and settled into a harmonious whole. I would have liked a few comments on how it is kept cleaned.
Lovely! I love charming English homes. Their collections I could spend a lot of time looking...oohing and aahing. This looks so comfortable and cozy. Thanks for sharing. 😃
Each one has his own room: my dream!
What a beautiful home, cosy and full of wonderful things.
This home is stunningly gorgeous, cozy yet very elegant! I would live here in a heartbeat I absolutely love it! ❤
What a pleasure to see all colours and interesting things around. Love it
Love, love, love...from the art, to the people, absolute joy!
🌹 I just cannot stop laughing about the phrase, "people want you to pay more for their bad bathrooms" 😭😂. Such an adorable home full of charm. It's their unique taste and individuality injected in the design, that lures you in. So cozy as well.....❤
Stunning house, breathtaking flower arrangements! 💕
Every piece in their house Is so special!!!💐
The beautiful clutter of this house which is very much like mine is an affirmation that I am a collector, not a hoarder. Love it. It overflows with stuff but they’re arranged artistically.
I always wonder how, and who, can clean a place like this?!
The housekeeper I surmise.
Adored this. Every second of it. Thank you.
There is something always very personal when one collects things that we love!
Love their home❤
Very charming couple and home. Benedict is super interesting.
The diversity in living is rather comforting and sobering. ❤️
Absolutely love this gorgeous home, the only thing I’m not a fan of is the wobbly filming but then that’s personal preference.
I cannot stop watching this vlog. This is my sixth viewing and it’s so calming.
Fabulous, filled with taste and ideas, with art, antiques and enthusiasm. Congrats!
Lovely home it has character, warmth and luxury.
Yep! I like your home it's the kind of place I can feel comfortable and cozy.
Love hearing someone talk about color who actually lives with COLOR
We live in a world of COLOUR
@@nagolhayze9366 YES! I hate when people mention a “pop of color” in their home and it’s like a blue-gray pillow 🙄

LoVe LoVe LoVe your style!! So inviting and cozy! Thank you for sharing your home with the rest of us. Thank you for rescuing antiques, continue on with the thrill of the find!
I could live here very happily. Charming. ❤️
What a fabulous cosy home. I’d love to pop in for afternoon tea. I’d spend hours looking at all the nik naks. Wonderful 💖
More Design Note! Basically want to live in an english country cottage all the time !
Just love the flowers on the mantle. The colors & amount are perfectly delicious. All of the decor.
Lovely. Thank you.
I identify myself at lot with you. You are borderline a Hoarder. So conscious of the value of each and everything, that we are not able to throw things away, since we find value everywhere.
Such a perfectly beautiful home 😍
What a very lovely space. And the people who live here. Thank you.
What a beautiful home, and so comfortable looking! I love it !
Eye candy in every room 🖼. Wonderful!
Dream home, just too gorgeous, cozy and cocoon like.
Borders are coming back? Hooray! Having lived nearly seven decades, I was sad to see them come and go.
Love this, harmonious color and interesting objects.
I love this home so much! It says, “ come in and be”….. The pleasure of just exploring and enjoying all the interesting pieces that surround you makes every moment feel alive with joy!
Absolutely delightful! Thank you!
Only Brits can enjoy such low ceilings! Interesting tour even if it's not really my style.
Am so thankful that there are other people not turning there houses grey and lifeless....and yay! Yellow kitchen, I always have a yellow kitchen, bright and cheerful and gets the culinary juices going :-)
I love the colors and patterns... sweet and cozy spaces. I'm not sold that borders are coming back; however. 🙂
Brilliant! An incredible style jux between occupants and objects. Spot On.
re: Baby Jane cushion (@ 8:14), fun fact: Bette Davis did her own make-up for the film, because as she told the make-up artist, she did not want to get them fired, and which she based on the tarted up women she'd seen out and about on Hollywood Boulevard.
Anyway, what a delightful and evocative home, with exquisite colorations. Thank you for this tour!
I love this house - so charming and personal. Benedict and Daniel are fabulous. More of this series please!
Loveeee the style! Beautiful pieces! Like a museum; gives you a desire to look at everything by taking time and enjoying each piece. Thank you!
Fabulous & Cozy
Incredible home. Wow. Amazed.
LOVE LOVE LOVE
I thought i had too much stuff. But I'm a minimalist looking at this. So posh
This house tells a story of its owners, as it should be. Bears the distinctive stamp of its occupants. We built a new cottage in 2016. Started out with plain walls that morphed into the "story board" of my life, every little thing that either struck a cord in my soul or was a bit of personal history that traveled through the years with me...
comfy cozy elegant & fun...loooove it!
Utterly charming!
Gorgeous home - warm, friendly, comfortable, intelligent. A day in this home would increase my IQ.
What a hoot. Absolutely wizard.
Very inspiring with the creative personality journey! I feel like I can breath when I see it!
This is slowly beginning to be my favorite channel
totally cozy! thanks for this.
Something interesting at every turn. Just love going into places like this so I can explore and learn the why's of everything!
The "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" pillow! That is my favorite movie of all time!!!
Gorgeous. Probably needs quite a bit of feather duster action but it’s worth it. I love everything about the choices style and colours. And the garden.
I could listen to them forevermore ❤
Wow. They’ve collected some great things but I preferred the less cluttered rooms. The white room with the beautiful pottery on the shelves was probably my favorite. The bedrooms were also pretty great. I wish I had the ability to add color to my spaces.
I am a dedicated maximalist, and recognise that I have too much in my own very small house. However, watching this I now think that I understand how my minimalist next-door neighbour feels when they see my house. Perhaps it is the ceiling height, but I felt that if I walked into that house, I would be overwhelmed by claustrophobia.
definitely too many things in there, very cluttered.
Separate bedrooms. How fantastic. The evenings together must be romantic.
" I quite like coming here and not having to have any contact with the 21st century"... my favorite sentence from now !
loved this home.
Perfect 💯🌟✨✨✨
Beautiful and very homey
Love this place! ❤
Lovely with a lot of character!!!
Beautiful 😻
Love the glorious clutter of beautiful pieces. I do worry though about how one maintains a house such as this? Who vacuums and dusts? I am in the process of decluttering in my flat, and know how difficult it is to choose what will stay and what will go. Lovely gentlemen, you have created a wonderful home.
"Who vacuums and dusts?" Just the idea of shifting of all those objects, books, & furniture for basic maintenance boggles the mind.
@@johnvonundzu2170 I do and wash the floors also - but all only occasionally!!! The more stuff there is, beautiful or not, still has to be cared for to maintain a beautiful home.
I love these guys!
So glad Design Notes can locate these eccentric, nearly Boston Brahmin types to share their homes with us. When someone mentions Colefax ike it's a local general store, you know you're listening to privilege, if not necessarily "wealth."
Who else seeks untouched spaces with such highbrow negation of "modernized" interiors? It's funny and reminds me just how polar opposite my undesirable world is from theirs. Here, one cherishes the glorious material remnants of a bygone era.
@8:34 we see their lovely garden patio area. How might I find a patio table with the scallops and twisted wire? Keywords or place to search, please? As ever, thank you H and G for another beautiful short film on gorgeous space.
This ceiling height would drive me mad! Love the decor and collections nonetheless.
Unique & inviting 🇬🇧
The baby Jane cushion 😆❤️❤️❤️
This was delightful. Thank you. DA
"People want you to pay more for their bad bathrooms" 😂😂😂 (I think I will be using this quote from now on😁)
Well done!
Ref: 6:38 Beautiful room - I too think of a bedroom as a personal space - at least in theory :))
Love the British style ❤❤❤
All the Persian tiles and plate were my favorite part.
I watch 2 you tube channels similar to this. Nicholas Fairford and My take on home and garden. Both great
You didn't rip a perfectly functioning kitchen out that would just go to landfill, only to replace it with floor to ceiling, highly toxic, plastic-coated mdf in *gloss white!* 👏👏👏💙💛🧡💚❤️
