The tyre size shown is incorrect! The correct tyre size is 235/55 R18. Apologies for the error.
Instead of treating this as a 7-seater, it could prove versatile as 5 seater plus loads of luggage space - great for touring looks like
Same as safari and XUV700
Given the specs, this looks more like a competition to the Tata Safari. Toyota can lay to rest all their worries and keep looting the Indian customers with an overpriced product like Fortuner.
With not so good third row and just a 2l Compass engine it looks more like just an extended compass than a proper suv to go against the fortuner
Never knew whats the fuss with closing tailgate manually, i mean it just takes half a second.. and little to no effort..i guess it comes in handy when your hands are occupied
And it takes forever to open or close, and no satisfaction of slam shutting.😂
When you are rich enough to afford a 40L car you dont want manual work
Tail gates are heavy in these kinds of cars.. So it's like saving energy or paying the premium for being lazy..
Ask this question to a person who owns a fortuner and is less than 5.5
Honestly, going by the specifications I don't think this is a competition to the Fortuner. I think this falls more to XUV 7OO and Safari territory.
But will be priced as a fortuner rival and will be another fail for jeep 🥲
But in a premium way
What features does fortuner have?
What kind of other features does the fortuner even have... It is extremely overpriced
Jeep is too lazy in launching products, after so long time there is a new Jeep( extended compass). Anyway this looks premium and has that bigger Cherokee dna in terms of design.
hope you enjoyed the chandigarh roads
It's not about laziness, our reforms, import duty, sub4 meter and make in India delays these awesome cars... I wouldn't be surprised if you call Tesla laziest as they might launch in 2025
Common grouse for Compass was cramped second row and small trunk which deters long road trips for families. Meridian solves it, but takes away the fun element from driving. Autocar has best car reviews, it’s apt for what a prospective consumer is looking for. I suggest you start covering Air conditioning as well for such large cars. As a user of Skoda Superb the AC stops working in summers after an hour of drive - a problem prevalent for over two years now and unsolvable by various authorised service centres.
Toyota has always been known for its reliability and comfort! It's difficult for Jeep to compete with Fortuner till the price is very competitive in the market along with after sales services especially in India!
Toyota is famous for it's reliability. but for the Fortuner, please exclude the 'comfort' factor. it's like sitting on a bench travelling at 100km\hr
Beautiful looking SUV.
The 3rd row seats are kinda useless, but someone who needs more space in the boot and a compass like SUV, it's best suited for them.
Never miss an Autocar review. Autocar, please also make a video on the importance of driving in lanes.
I have owned a jeep compass for over a year and a half and i must go out on a limb and say the car is amazing the interior on the other hand completely trash. The cabin is never silent. There are creeks and all sort of noises. The dash board panels, the plastic near the gear lever everything rattles. And to top it off the guys at the service centre agree to it.
Damn
Contrary to this, my Linea 1.3mjd never rattled once in over 10 years!
I'm also using compass from 2019 but never faced a single issue with car and services 😎
and I felt that Compass has the best quality interior... looks like it shows its true colors with time
I feel bad for you 😂
The engine is an anticipated let down. But with the space available in the third row, it is an absolute blunder not to have adjustable second row seats. Hope Jeep fixes that and also price it right and it will sell in decent numbers.
All the videos which is posted are shooted on Day Time. Now a days most of the cars major issues are Headlights, I have been told by few customers Jeep compass is also not drivable at night it worsens if it rains. I own a VW Passat I face the same issue and even Audi Q3 A4 BMW 3 series X1 few more premium cars in market they are not safe to drive at night. Please shoot videos at nights and Do make review on that as well.
With companies like Ford abandoning India how do we buy these cars confidenrly
you can't
A second row with captain seats fully slide and full recline adjustable will do the job for me!
With the same engine as the compass, the price and the cramped third row there will be a small number of people who'd choose this over a fortuner. The price should've been more competitive for it to sell well.
If it is a good touring car, how would you rate it against the Innova Crysta automatic? Doesn't the latter give much better VFM and carry a better reliability quotient?
@Autocar india, I have Innova Crysta-2.8L Automatic Diesel GX variant car, which is upgraded (with looks as incase of ZX variant). I was planning to give away the current car to upgrade to a more better car. I have Fortuner / Jeep Meriden as choice. Can you let me know, if this is worth the upgrade or should i stick to my innova?
The 9 speed is pretty awesome..
Jeep pricing will definitely be 40+ ex showroom. Sad the 3rd row is a bummer
Cars looks good but I still think Ford Endeavour was the real competitor of Toyota Fortuner.
Jeep had an opportunity to rival Fortuner & all they offered is a botched up compass. They needed to come up with a Butch looking SUV in 30-35L range to rival the extremely overpriced Fortuner. They missed a trick here.
I wish they would bring this to the US. I don't like the look of the new Grand Cherokee, but I would have loved to get one of these.
This is an absolutely amazing car to drive no comparison to anything out there in that price range.
If jeep does manoeuvre through stringent government policies and taxes while keeping its product quality and behaves well with its customers it can place this car in the auto market for a long time!
It is a good review and it covers many aspects that a potential buyer need to know. However it would have been useful to talk about reliability, dealership network within india, total cost of ownership, service intervals and many more. We had a grand Cherokee longtime ago and did not go well. May be things have changed now. At least reliability stats even from US market would have been useful.
is the seating position similar to compass or is it a high seating like harrier
Planning to upgrade from Maruti XL6 to Jeep Meridian. Does it make sense? Boot seems about the same and the 3rd row doesn't seem any bigger.
For budget Concious buyers Meridian is better But I would still prefer MG Gloster. over Meridian.
Why is it that they always manage to make something bad in an otherwise excellent vehicle?
Slidable middlle seats with a better seated backrow would have made this insanely better.
I dont think there are any SUVs that look this good in this price range.
Which color's the best looking in meridian?? Wish they had midnight blue....
Looking forward for comparison test with Harrier / Safari and XUV 700,
I am just loving this jeep
Whenever the 7 seater suv launch in india the last seat is always good for children 😂😂😅😅..
Instead of buying low end Mercedes Benz ,BMW for >50lakhs on road this is worth . Good quality interior ,good ride quality . This is what we look for in a luxury car .
Is the 4xe (plugin hybrid)available in India ?
Definitely it is not going to make a dent in Fortuner sales. Even the mighty, massive Endeavour couldn't do it. But love the classy interiors, excellent paint finsh, classy lines , proportions, best in class alloy design - all Fortuner can only dream of!
This is not at all competitive to Fortuner . Fortuner is legend and undisputed king in SUV segment. Meridian is an just a luxury Hector plus or an extended compass . That too with 2000 cc engine.
Having an almost unusable third row beats the entire point of getting a 7 seater.
Vedio has been shot in chandigarh......great......a place where i go quite frequently👏👏😍😍
When can we expect Hyundai Palisade launch in India?
I am waiting for it. If it's not coming is a gloster good option?
God damnit the interior 🔥
Please drive it guys who has not driven the car...Fortuner can't compete in Handling and riding comfort
Would love an unbiased comparison to the Fortuner
Can't believe the basics of this car come from the 2005 Fiat Punto. Yes its hugely upgraded but a small car platform just cant stretch this far
Hi, what colours does the jeep meridian come in?
That one touch rear seat fold reminds me of underrated mahindra marazzo.
Nothing can't beat the mighty Endy, missing badly.
A real winner. Almost the complete car. Love those alloys and the front end. Lovely interior. Clean and crisp.
Hoping we get a plethora of engine options soon!
The common man would be happy with an XL6 but if one can afford the Meridian, it would be a beautiful addition to their garage.
Brands like FCA etc can take on the traditionally strong OEM’s ( at-least in India) by only getting their service cost and accessibility to service at par with #Toyota , #M&M etc !!
No doubts on the performance of this already proven FCA 2L diesel power train. It already powers the like of Safari, Harrier , MG Hector etc & the accessory list is also pretty decent !!
Shout out to #FCA & #Skoda get ur service right & you would have truly arrived 👍👍
Tbh the engine spec and features and gearbox and everything make it as a perfect opponents for Safari and Xuv 700.Till now I don’t get the concept of Why Compass is 5 lac costlier. It’s doesn’t get in the size as well as a powerful engine to talk about this with Gloster or Fortuner
@AutocarIndia , When can we expect the review of BMW F850GSA??
Is there any embargo?
We need such cars for India.
Will hte 2 liter D engine be a low power for such a SUV?
Can you please compare in to Tata Safari in terms of Space ?
was that sorabjee hormazd driving when renukas was in 2nd row?
Confused between
Compass trailhawk or meridian
the car looks big, but the third row is very small.
Why are the interiors not available in Tan leather?
Hi autocar can you jeep meridian, Toyota fortunes & mg GLOSTER please
Heard that Ford is going to still sell their new Everest (endeavour) as CBU in India like they are selling in Thailand. Anyone can verify this ?
Jeep compass is a really good vehicle. But the only issue is the pricing. Pricing is not aggarsive like other competitors.. Now a new car ( extend version) let's see
Long story short, The Car is a stretched version of Jeep Compass with an almost useless third row to seat.
Everything else is just Jeep Compass. Nothing else.
Why everyone complains about third row seats its meant for childrens and small run for adults. So don't complain of third row. So please be educated guys. None of the suv provides spacious third row in the world
Is it AWD or 4WD? Lot of different in both. Please clarify…
Right side entry into 3Rd row ?
Even highly overpriced Jeep looks value for money compared to criminally priced fortuner.
When is the fortuner vs meridian video coming? Or you can also keep meridian vs safari vs xuv700
Location suited perfectly for drive - New Chandigarh
It is just an extended version of compass with not so practical 3rd row n boot space. Also using the same 2ltr multijet for this extended ward. Though i love jeep( owns a fiat punto diesel '16) and even considering to buy a trailhawk, if i were just rich enough to extend my budget then i would definetly go for mg gloster above this extended ward..where gloster has all creature comforts incl better and practical third row, boot space and even has adas.
Jeep offers the perfect amalgamation of features and built quality something the Volkswagen group needs to learn from
Good car.Is there any updates on cherokee 2022?
Meridian💥⚡
Same compass engine with same power. Can't rival mighty tfort with 500Nm !!!
Was looking forward too but anyways kodiaq is the best in 40 lac range today
How is the audio quality and performance ?
If comfort and Smooth ride is all I want, I would go for the Kia Carnival Limousine version. That's the epitome of luxury and comfort.
waiting for a comparison video of gloster, fortuner, meredian
I like the alloy wheels..
When are we getting the VW Virtus review?
why jeep missed out the ADAS Feature in such high end SUV...! GLOSTER and XUV 700 have it... why not jeep... !
It can never be compete with fortuner as it is smaller on both height and length as compared to fortuner.
Very impressive 👍
There's a mistake in tyre size. It cant be 285/55R18. Corrent one should be 235/55R18
Let me know the price of Manual option ?
Every big jeep products has engines options problem. The wrangler has only 2.0 l petrol , doesn't offer the diesel engine and now meridian with single engines options
More like mpv?
Looking at the 3rd row seats of this extended compass i think kodiaq is better option than this one in that price
Jeep did a mistake by putting same engine and power/torque remains the same atleast they should tweek the performance or else include the Brazil's (commander) engine
It will be great success if jeep don't compete with fortuner, fortuner is king in his segment, and its specs more lean to xuv 700 category but more premium, that conclude jeep should tag very aggressively and smartly, later when it will get some presence then they should come with more power to compete with the legend.
great info
I’m just wondering. If Jeep is managing to survive in Indian market why didn’t Ford think of it and to launch new products and Ford could have stayed in India.
Do we even have the roads to drive this in India.
nice camera📷
It looks more like a station wagon, than a SUV. Its rivals include Safari, XUV 7OO, Hyndai Tuscon and Citreon C5. It is no where closer to be a Fortuner competitor.
When will Vw vitrus video come
Still MG Gloster is beast because of third row comfort
If it’s priced under 40L, it will eat up Fortuner like anything!
little more space on the 3rd row. omg almost bought this.....
Compare with mg gloster and fortuner
Ford may have left but if you travel to Thailand. You can buy the Everest 2023 for india
Well! It is always difficult to compete against Japanese Car makers (TOYOTA/HONDA), especially "Toyota" - This brand has swept North and South America's car market with huge margin, for an instance in North America 60% of cars on the road road belongs to either Toyota/Honda (Toyota's another luxury brand called "Lexus" - it has prevailed the best luxurious, reliable, & eventually good ownership experience when compared to German brands(BMW/Mercedes/Audi) ); When you talk about Jeep in North America then the perception is that this is one of the Off-road vehicle which is not reliable and bad ownership experience. If you are buying a Car at India then I would always suggest to go for "Toyota/Honda" - they make impeccable cars and will lost for long without ripping-off your pockets.
