Thanks for the high quality content. I was deployed to Iraq in 2005 I spent my time there learning about this great empire and walking amongst it's ruins. I even got the nickname the archeologist. One of the staging areas we often used was near the ruins of Nimrud. Later Isis fighters destroyed the ruins. It is saddening how much was lost when they took over the area.

I love these stories, and it's sad to think they may cease to exist entirely one day. Did any of this even happen if we all end up forgetting it? Maybe no time soon, but one day when Earth is just one of many planets inhabited by humans, these stories will drift into obscurity. I think it's so vital that these kinds of recordings exist. Mr Cooper you have single handedly inspired a deep passion for history in me, before I found this podcast I knew nothing of human history. I've listened and re listened to almost all of your videos atleast 3 times, spent so much more of my free time looking into history than just mindlessly watching tripe, and I just can't thank you enough. I haven't listened to this one... Yet... And I can't wait to listen to it 4 more times already
To my shame I was totally unaware of it until it was mentioned in the historical but dramatized and fictionalized series 'The Terror' about the crews of the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus making their own dreadful march southwards, abandoning ship deep in the arctic circle.
I have been listening an watching these podcasts since the early days and I rarely comment, but I simply must comment on your work, as now I must have been through them all several times. I have never been so enriched by a history podcast, the attention to detail, the music, the stories, the forlorn remembrance of epics lost to time and the over saturation of modern culture. Thank you for bringing light to dark corners of history, I have been truly touched by this series, like no other. The appreciation and reverence you display to these cultures is splendid. You pay attention the importance of geography, setting the scene in many episodes by placing the environmental parameters at centre stage, before fading it to the backdrop of the story, but keeping it ever present and reminding us of our fragility; the thin line of civilization marked by tall walls, extreme personalities and power projection. I cannot stress enough the attention you give to environmental factors as all subjects take place within it's setting and all too often our neglect of it's limits can cost us lives, cities and civilization itself. I feel through your work that I am travelling through time on a breeze, a fly on the wall of times and cultures extinguished, experiencing stories that every child at school should hear to connect them to their world. I have learned more through these podcasts than I have by trawling online and through books for decades. Please keep up this fine work, I share many of the stories you have shared to entertain, enrich and educate. If I may be so bold, I am itching to fill a gaps in my knowledge (I am an insatiable sophist) and every episode teaches me so much that I am ever expectant that there will there be an episode on the Indus Valley Civilization? Please make it so!
Another great podcast and coverage of the subject. Paul always goes above and beyond with the research and production of these podcasts. I hope more people discover these, since these are the absolute best podcasts I’ve listened to. Thank you Paul for all you do!
It's here! Looks like this should be really interesting, especially given the context as a civilisation that arose out of the ashes of another societal collapse covered on this channel.
Excellent episode! The amount of effort put into researching and making this is evident. However, I would like to point out that the city of Ashur, unlike Nineveh, was reinhabited soon after the Medes were overthrown by the Achaemenid Persians, and the shrine to the deity Ashur was rebuilt and lasted for centuries after. It is clear that people living in Ashur after its repopulation identified as the descendants of the ancient Assyrians. Thus, the memories of the Neo-Assyrian empire had not vanished even after its fiery collapse.
Crazy how Paul and his team consistently produce some of the finest historical content on the web.
True.
Agreed, and I sincerely wish I could be doing what they do (would be doing psychology or sociology instead of history but still)

I must set aside time in my schedule to watch this the whole way through. I've been taken on such extraordinary journeys over the last 12 episodes
I love this Podcast! I guess I'll have to record the Euro football match now because I'm enjoying this first!!!
YOU have the best history learning channel!! ❤ Thank you for your work Paul Cooper!
Fantastic, one of your best. Adding in the parallel texts from the Hebrew Bible was a brilliant addition.
The Assyrian collapse was amazingly rapid, practically overnight. Cruelty only gets you so far.
Don't know if anyone else dies this. But this is the 4th time listing to this one. Hands down some of the best content out there.
for poor people, youtube is a true Library of Alexandria. thank you for making these great episodes
Idk what to do with my life now that I finished the episode… Guess I’ll have to binge watch all of the episodes again. 👀
I needed something to keep me entertained today...thank you guy's for all your work these documentary's are genuinely something I look forward to
Our pleasure!
I’ve been binging these while working from home for like 2 weeks. I can’t give enough props to this guy for the dedication, detail and love he puts into each episode.
The quality of these videos is unreal, it’s frustrating to wait for new episodes but totally worth it every time! Keep up the immaculate work!
Been waiting so long! Re-listening to old episodes over and over. I pick up something new on every listen. Wish school was as interesting.
America allowing Saudi to fund Isis was one of the biggest historical crimes ever. All to try and overthrow a secular Syrian govt 😢😢😢😢
This made my day. Nothing resonates more than hearing the twilight of elder days.
Awesome! This is hands down the best content on RUclips. I really look forward to new episodes and the Assyrians are such an interesting and mysterious people to cover. Thank you.
Finally!!!! My wife is sick of learning about the Sumerians every night as we fall asleep. Now We have a new bed time story
Thats adorable
Amen brother , A glitch in the system, but why the Sumerians?
Food for thought, man. Perhaps your wife is looking forward to some other kind of entertainment in bed.
@@Neldidellavittoria cheeks are always clapped prior to bedtime stories
@@zacharystrong 🤣
Who are the eight lunatics who dislike this??
Been waiting patiently for this. One of the best history podcasts out there. Brilliant, throughly researched content, narrated with such romance and beauty by Paul.
Thank you for your hard work.
all the dislikes are from Babylonians.
Once again you've told an epic story with imagination and wonder. Stories of ancient history are not appreciated as they should be. Thank you for reviving stories that have slipped through the pages of time.
I hope to see this type of high quality content secured on blockchains or something one day.
This was one of my favourite topics in high school history. Thank you for covering it
Every time one of these releases I think, "This would make an awesome D&D setting"
Hahahahaha! I took Waterdeep DragonHeist and reset it in a D&D version of Babylon. It was awesome!
Nerd. I'm interested 👀😂
Crit!
I want to play d and d in Roman britain
@@isaacshultz8128 Me too! The historical setting of Rome conquering Britain, building London; the geopolitics of holding an island nation as part of your empire; it's a perfect backdrop for D&D.
I learn so much from history. These podcast tell of forgotten worlds rippling through time great lessons that we would do well to heed.
Excellent content. Great team. If there was an Oscar for narration it would be yours.
Truly Paul u have become a legend in your self. When it comes to history I think of your voice the same as with my nature docs I think of David Attenborough. That's it I gotta get patreon and support u.
My kids know your voice and listen for as long as parts hold their attention as we do stuff in our reptile room. Or in our garden.
Tnx for the nature doc recommend.
"in our reptile room" ... :-) Reptiles say "in our human house"
I am legit surprised every time I see anything on RUclips talking about the ancient near east that *doesn't* center around ancient freaking alien theories. Thank you! You're up there with Dan Carlin and Mike Duncan!
These guys weren’t aliens but lizard people
@@angryatheist No.
@@lastofmygeneration lol 😂 it would be funny except that it’s sad because ppl actually believe it
@@gooacnt707: What do you suppose might be out there amongst 100,000,000,000×100,000,000,000 stars? Just wondering how small your mind is?
The most incredible podcast I have ever listened to! I love these, you bring the stories to life and leave in me awe at how much humans so may thousands of years ago were just like you and I.
I was assembling some circuits and left RUclips on autoplay, the algorithm did it's job properly bringing me to this amazing podcast
No way, a new civ?! I will never stop recommending this channel to everyone who shows the slightest interest in history
Another 3 hours of joy. Thank you for letting us share the knowledge 😊
I was just listening again to episode 1 on Roman Britain whilst making lunch and thought how great it would be for another episode to come out!
As a side, I really enjoy your pace of speaking, and it makes it accessible for local friends (I live in Spain).
Keep up the fantastic work, and thank you for making such a high quality podcast.
Well this was just superb.
The King himself👑
Oh look the smartest man on RUclips
oh nice
Wrong episode. Try # 8.
Fell asleep listening to an episode of Lotus Eaters, woke up 1/2 way through this vid and who do see in the comments?
I seemingly experience the world through my nose- and this channel has some of the only descriptions of smells ive heard and it puts me right into the atmosphere when i know what im smelling. Love this content, amazing
I was just looking on the channel for a new video this morning before work. Thank you so much. Best Docs anywhere.
Age of empire and this podcast are just amazing together.
I love this series and yet it's so sad.
Wonderful job. Touching for sure. The education and insight an almost happy by product, in my mind.
"History doesn't repeat, but it often rhymes" Mark Twain
I am recently discovering many great quotes from Twain. This is yet another thank you
Thank you, I made the lamb stew using the recipe that you spoke about, also ordered your book, you keep making them, ill keep listening
I got so hyped when this popped up in my feed!
The absolute awesomeness that my afternoon at work just became seeing this drop!
I legit squealed when i saw this.
Me too!!
lol
I'm always surprised at how fast I always drop everything for these podcasts when they come out. Fantastic documentary
Yes! Just what I need to get me through the day! Clicked as soon as I got the alert!
The march of ten thousand, is probably my favorite story form the ancient world
It should be a movie!
To my shame I was totally unaware of it until it was mentioned in the historical but dramatized and fictionalized series 'The Terror' about the crews of the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus making their own dreadful march southwards, abandoning ship deep in the arctic circle.
The best history channel on RUclips.
Thank you Paul for all you do!
congratulations, what a narrative, it makes you feel like you are right there. I love the focus on daily life and common people
It's here! Looks like this should be really interesting, especially given the context as a civilisation that arose out of the ashes of another societal collapse covered on this channel.
I nearly spat my dinner out when my phone lit up! I can't wait
Uuuuuuuuuuuu
Another masterpiece as always! Never have I heard, seen, or read anything that makes you feel so emotional for a civilization forgotten by time.
This is the perfect for just listening to on a sunny day in the garden. Always love your content there is nothing like this out on RUclips!
What a lovely contrast. I listen in the dark. In the middle of the night when I cannot sleep.
I cannot wait for the video version to come out. 3 hours!? You're amazing. One of the best channels on RUclips.
Love this podcast. I'm really looking forward to the Achaemanid Empire.
