  • Hundreds of students march on the University of Southern California campus in support of Muslim student Asna Tabassum, after the school cancelled her valedictorian commencement speech. Tabassum, a biomedical engineering student who earned top marks in her class, had posted in support of Palestinians on her social media. University officials said 'safety' concerns were the reason for the decision, and that it had 'nothing to do with freedom of speech'. Tabassum said in a statement that USC had 'succumbed to a campaign of hate meant to silence my voice'

How ironic, now the left knows what its like to be cancelled. Patetic really, and the outcome is Donald Trump.

If she had a speech on Trump and the Trials and her thoughts about that would it be OK? It's a Graduation and not a political event.

Except this is a school, which can choose whatever they see fit to be said at their own event. She was one of about a hundred candidates, if she refuses to behave then they are well within their right to choose someone else. Your freedom of speech does not mean that you cannot be barred from speaking at private events or at certain locations.

Preventing the student from delivering her speech did the opposite. She reached to the world instead of her university campus and exposed the double standard when it comes to certain ethnicity.

Criticism of the Israeli government is not antisemitism. Condemning the only real democracy in the ME in favour of a murderous, misogynistic and homophobic terrorist regime definitely is antisemitism.

It’s not democracy, it’s an educational institution that’s granting her the esteemed *privilege* of giving a speech at the graduation. They are well within their right to reject speeches they feel are inappropriate and to select another candidate if she refuses to behave.

Valedictorian is about grades and nothing else. Your political beliefs aren't supposed to matter unless they are openly discriminating. Just more proof we live in a super racist country.

It is a graduation speech, not a political statement they are waiting for. You need to be able to keep your political views to yourself during these events.

Glad she’s denied. She would be partisan….and her opposition would not be allowed to respond to her. I know….let her debate Ben Shapiro on stage.
