Just picking a random thread to say thanks. New Taco owner here, decided I wanted some Method 703's and I always search for promo codes before hitting go on the shopping cart. I didn't find anything but then I remembered how much content of yours I'd been watching and decided to search your name and promo code. Put in my info and walked away $254.40 better off, HUGE discount thanks so much!
Data point for others doing 285/70/17s. I've got an OME suspension (2.5" front, 1.5" rear lift, measured from street to wheel well center), C load KO2s: OMETAC16HKSB2. With 17x8 zero-offset rims, it's a perfect fit. No need to replace UCAs or to trim or hammer anything. I can smack it around at full steering lock without any rub. Almost all of the clearance issues I've seen on others' set-ups are from going overboard with a big negative offset. 2021 TRD OR.
I've found this to be the case too-- for fitting larger tires, wheel offset matters more than people may think! The lift matters, but 0 offset helps quite a bit. Thanks for sharing your setup!
I’m about to swap rims on my 08’ to 17”. Tire options for 16” leave you with an E range tire. 0 offset seems like the way to go but what about backspacing. Looks like 4.5 or 4.75 but I’m having difficulty finding that answer
Thank you for explaining wheel offsets and your decision making process in detail. Finally, a production without 40 mph wind gust audio noise, and video camera shake that leads to vertigo. You did your homework ! Nice Job !
I was thinking about running a 285/75/16 (32.81") the sizes between that and a 285/70/17 (32.7") are super close, this way at least I could run the stock TRD pro rims.
Thanks for putting this video together, and taking all the work out of getting the right mods. I love everything about this lift, and its functionality. I have the same year and color trd pro, and I have to say those rims and tires are perfect!! Thanks again!

So the westcott collar is adding 1.5" to a suspension that was lifted 1" from the factory, does that mean a TRD Off Road would need ~2.5"+ to have the same tire and wheel set up? Assuming same castor, but I am planning on SPC UCAs.

Had these tires in 35” size on a stock wrangler. Waiting on a 2022 pro currently. Trying to decide what size tires on the pro without any suspension mods. Thanks for the vid.
I’m about to take delivery of my 2022 Tacoma sport and I’m going to put 285s on it with the one and a half inch left you put on the front does it rub even when you’re flexing your suspension out
How off is your speedometer and odometer with the larger diameter wheels? When I increased the wheel and tire size on my old Nissan truck, the actual speed became off and required recalibration to maintain proper speed and mileage indications. Is this recalibration something you can do with an OBD-II tool or does it need to be sent out to a company?
Hi Chloe, good morning. Just purchased a 2008 Tacoma, crew cab and 6ft bed in black. No Jack items and front tires rubs Wondering about appropriate jack size incase i have a flat? RR
So, basically a 1.5" lift and a zero offset wheel allow for a 285/70 r17 tire to fit there perfectly (no rubbing or touching anywhere even at full compression or full turn). Right?
How’d those Methods balance? Did they require a lot of weights? A mechanic told me one of these newer wheel brands are impossible to get balanced but can’t recall if he was referring to Method, KMC, Black Rhino etc…
It does feel sluggish. I have a 2019 with 285s. The factory gearing of 3.91 just can’t handle those tires. It can barely handle the stock 265s. Toyota really dropped the ball on this part of the third gen Tacomas.
Hello, would a Falken Wildpeak 285/75R16 fit without rubbing? I currently have a 275/75R16 now and no issues at all. Before I buy new ones I thought about increasing to the next size up. Please advise and thank you
So have you had any problems on the outer wall of the tire ? I have some toyo open country AT3. 265/70/17 on the trd pro wheels after about 6 months I took the spare down to clean it. And had some major rubbing on the outside wall of the tire from the top of the undercarriage compartment. It was so bad I had to get a new spare. Any recommendations to solve that problem? I’ve tried tighten the spare down as tight as I could but that didn’t seem to do the trick.
Hi Chloe my trd off road right now does has 2” leveling kit front 1” lift blocks rear with the same methods wheels yours you think I’ll be fine running the 285’s ? Thanks 😊
What about caster and alignment...? I have the exact same tires and method 306 wheels. Fox 2.5 coil over adjustable resiviors. Truck is leveled but get rubbing during articulation. Im actually getting the alignment and caster adjusted as I write this.. I hope it fixes the issue.. was hoping you'd speek on the caster and alignment...

1st: disregard my question from the later video which I watched first. 2nd: Did you get an alignment after putting the 285's on? Also, I had my heart set on American Racing 17x8's with zero offset for my '19 TRD O/R knowing I would need new shocks, but I'm guessing those 'Pro' Fox shocks (with the preload collar) will swap in easily... I hope. Not needing UCA's will help with my budget - same reason I won't get those Methods. Great video, as usual!!
I am very interested in how you dont rub the mud flap.. I have a 2020 trd sport and I run a 265-70-17s with stock suspension. And when the suspension is compressed and turning left I rub.. Very annoying...
It’s a big difference compared to stock. Around 3-4mpg on interstate with my truck before the regear and custom tune and I set my speed to 68 on the interstate.
I’ve got a ‘19 off road like you and was wondering your thoughts on purchasing the TRD Pro front suspension and the lift kit you mentioned to swap out the stock suspension. I really like the setup on your Pro model but I’m not sure how well the components would swap between trim levels. Awesome video and keep them coming!!
Between models, there shouldn’t be a difference. You can also look at the TRD lift kit that Toyota sells-I don’t have personal experience with it but from what I heard, it’s not a bad option!
Any updates on off-roading and fuel economy? I have a 2021 pro with a similar lift and want to make sure putting 33"ish tires on isn't a bad idea - appreciate your content!
There's a give and take with BIGGER tires, Things to think about are, taking off from a start is a smidge slower--fuel consumption is a bit more-- and speedometer adjustment needed for correct MPH, BIGGER tires have a cool factor with your higher clearance and is needed for off roading, depends on how you play
