  • Motility is the ability of an organism to move by itself by means of propeller-like flagella unique to bacteria.
    If fresh culture of bacteria is available, microscopy is the most accurate way to determine bacterial motility and ‘Hanging drop method’ is a commonly used microscopic technique.
    Hanging drop preparation is a special type of wet mount (in which a drop of medium containing the organisms is placed on a microscope slide) to observe the motility of bacteria.
