    What is your favourite Intel 700-series motherboard?

    • @treyquattro
      @treyquattro Год назад +1

      my favorite is the one that MSI doesn't make: the Unify (or Unify-X). No idea why it exists for every other Intel chipset but not the Z790. The Carbon is a great board but I'm over RGB already (have the Z690 Carbon: it's an excellent board).

      @@treyquattro Carbon is nice. But I agree. No RGB is better. Unless it is something unusually cool😄 But creative-style PC hardware has a special place in my heart. Mobos like ASUS ProArt or GIGABYTE Vision D.

    Bear in mind that if you put a gen 5 ssd in the gen 5 m.2 slot the graphics card will reduce to 8x speed. This is a limitation of the CPU as they only got 16 gen 5 lanes. Also on that board with 5 m.2 slots only 4 can be populated, either the slot for gen 5 or gen 4 coming off the CPU. Both can't be populated.
    Another difference between z790 and b760 is the total number of pci-e lanes coming off the chipset. Z790 supports up to 20 whilst the b760 only 10(I think this correct) gen 4 lanes plus 8 gen 3 lanes for z790 and 4 for b760. A b760 board is not CPU overclockable, you are limited only to overclocking your memory.
    I believe you can fit a gen 5 ssd in a gen 4 m.2 slot, they are backwards compatible. It will just run at gen 4 speeds(then again who will notice the speed difference between 7000mb and 14,000mb read speeds?).

    How bad of a match is this? I overclock the 12900k but don’t know much about what makes a good VRM design or power stages as you mention these in the video. • @theivadim
      @theivadim  Год назад

      I think it should be fine if you use it for gaming. But if you throw a lot of CPU intensive tasks at it for prolonged periods of time then you may want to look into your system temperatures more. Don't look at CPU temperature. Check motherboard temperature instead. Software such as HWMONITOR by CPUID can provide that information as long as your motherboard has temperature sensors on VRM.

    • @theivadim

      Oh, and I wouldn't say that you need another motherboard. Even if you find that VRM motherboard temperatures are too high then just go back to stock settings on your 12900K. 70-90C temperature is perfectly good. 90-100C is a maybe. Over 100C is not a good number.
