    Wish there were more Z690 vs Z790 comparisons like this! I want to point out that the Z690 had a whole year of use in the wild so it has all the BIOS updates and manufacturers' tech supports have resolved more of the bugs than with Z790.

I've done it before on a different brand board because I overlooked the size of my air cooler which prevented my high profile 2x32GB sticks of ram from sitting in their recommended slots. There were no low profile 32GB ram sticks in stock at my local dealer to replace them so I bought 4x16GB low profile ram sticks to compensate which just cleared my oversized cooler.
      Moving forward about a year, I could've moved back to 2x32GB ram and sold the 4x16 sticks once I purchased my AIO but instead chose not to as they were already installed in my mid-tower build and worked just fine. I sold my 32's to a friend who purchased an E-ATX board.

    I was looking forward to your review of the z790 ProArt and I'm disappointed because you basically said "go watch the z690 review". The problem is that review is not accurate at all for the z790. For example, you say there that the M.2 driives and the SATA drives are totally independent, but on the z790 there are some important differences. Refer to the "Connectors with shard bandwidth" page in the z790 ProArt manual and maybe (hopefully!) you do a full review of the z790, which I know many users were waiting for. Nice review. Really wish motherboards would focus on PCIe 5.0 M.2 over the PCIe slot the GPU will be going in. By the time GPUs saturate PCIe 4.0 these boards will be very old, while drives are already being designed to use that bandwidth.

      The issue isn’t the motherboard vendors the issue is the pcie lanes directly into the cpu itself. Alder lake and raptor lake only have 16 lanes of pcie5 bandwidth and 4 direct lanes of pcie4. So motherboard manufacturers are restricted from the start.

    Hmm, you should expand your channel to a large segment of PC builds market that is being greatly overlooked and under served. The Traders (Stock, Futures, Forex, and Crypto Traders) all need and build or have custom built for them high grade PC’s. The ASUS Z790 ProArt Creator boards are about the perfect for traders. High speed stable performance with fast internet connections on the board everything we need. The only thing different in our builds and needs from your Creators builds and needs is the high dollar high heat graphics boards, we don’t need them, we need very stable and reliable enterprise graphics boards and the best I know of is the Nvidia T1000 8GB which has 4-DisplayPorts able to run four 4K monitors at once with no issues and low heat. It would be nice if Intel and ASUS would get together and design the future Z890 ProArts able to support 256GB DDR5 or even DDR6 at 6000 or even 8800. Another thing Traders and Creator builds have in common is we don’t need or care for the RGB gaming crap, we need fast stable systems that are quite too. So would be easy for your to include Trader builds and optimal components for our builds in your vids which would increase your views and subscribers. Thanks and looking forward to your next vids.

For me IO on the back is much superior on Asus than on Gigabyte (there is HDMI 2.1, two DP 1.4, one more LAN 2,5Gb and two Thunderbolt ports and more audio outs (not important for me) on ASUS, on Gigabyte there is no HDMI at all, DP is 1.2 and no Thunderbolt) On the other hand I suppose there is better power control for the CPU on Gigabyte, but i dont know how much it could influence overall stability. Furthermore m.2 cooling with double sided thermopads on Gigabyte looks nicer than Asus where we can mount cooling only from one side of SSD.

    Mine had issues after three weeks. Red and Amber LEDS's started flashing. Managed to get it to boot and it worked fine during the day (I was able to turn on and off fine) the next morning the issue repeated itself. This repeats every morning, currently back with Asus for investigation. Interestingly, the CMOS battery is not visible as it is located next to the HDMI ports under the plastic cover. You have to remove the mobo to undo the screws at the back of the board to remove the plastic cover which reveals the battery. However, Asus support has told me the battery is not designed to be removed? So what happens when the battery runs out? :(
    Update: Asus support have issued me an update by way of an apology and retracted their original statement and have confirmed the battery is removable...... I'm still awaiting the result of their testing the board.

    One of the things I feel like is being missed about this motherboard, and made me not go with it in a recent build, is it's lack of a 7 segment POST display. I think it is extremely important to have this on any system that is designed for any kind of work/production. I really don't understand why it is missing on Asus ProArt motherboards for LGA 1700 and I assume it is missing for the AMD equivalents. These do have diagnostic LEDs and I assume they still have beep codes, but who wants to deal with either of those when a POST display can be much faster, easier, and granular in what information it can give you when troubleshooting a system. The POST display is useful for overclocking, sure, but I would also argue that it is very important for people who's main machine is integral to making a living. I think more people should be talking about this because that is the best way to get Asus to add this feature to future motherboards.
    Also, I think you should review the w680 Asus motherboard since it also seems like a solid option for creators and might better fit some workstation needs and that motherboard basically has no RUclips content.

    Hey
    I don't know if you know but for the ASUS ProArt Wifi Z690 you cannot update the BIOS without also having access to a 12th gen CPU. I should correct myself; you CAN update the BIOS without a CPU installed, however, the BIOS requires Intel ME to be updated before you update the BIOS and for that you need to be running Windows on the machine first. The effect is therefore that you need the system up and running with a supported CPU from the 12th gen before updating the BIOS to add support for 13th gen. My guess is that most or at least some people who buy this might not have a 12th gen CPU lying around.
    I should say that there are threads on the ASUS ROG forums discussing workarounds for this, but ASUS does not support any of these methods and if you decide to go for one of them, to quote the support tech I talked to, "you are on your own".
    If you are lucky and the motherboard you bought is from a later batch that has already been preinstalled with a later BIOS supporting the 13th gen CPUs out of the box, then this isn't an issue, but I don't know if ASUS has actually shipped any Z690 with a BIOS supporting 13th gen directly from the factory. I would not take a chance on it anyway.
    Another alternative is to ask your retailer if they can help you with the BIOS update before they ship the motherboard.
    Just know that it is not as easy as popping in a USB with a BIOS update.
    For me, I got an older BIOS with my ProArt Z690 and I opted to get the cheapest 12th gen CPU I could get to use for the Intel ME update before swapping for the actual CPU I intended to run with the system. It's still a lot cheaper than going for the Z790 edition in my case, but a lot more work, so it might not be worth spending the extra time for some.

    I purchased and rebuilt my computer with this Mobo and I have a question. Can you, or should you keep the wifi turned on while using the ethernet connection? And by the way, thank you for pointing me toward this Mobo. I am very happy with it's performance. The Noctua cooler, I thinks works very well, as it maintains the CPU temp at about 80 degrees Celcius. Looking forward to your reply.

    I'm wondering between these two (Asus ProArt Z790 / Gigabyte AORUS Master Z790), but it's not so obvious decision, very hard choise to be honest and price in my country is exactly the same. Furthermore m.2 cooling with double sided thermopads on Gigabyte looks nicer than Asus where we can mount cooling only from one side of SSDs.

    Let's be honest.
    When hardware brands put "Creator" or "Art" in their product name, you know they take you for an Apple fan turkey.
    And they will treat you just like one, with a big unjustified premium for the word.
    Those motherboards like their Asus ProArt monitors series are exactly that.
    This one even more so than the previous generation.
    "Creators" should just completely avoid the ProArt motherboard series, current or old as much as possible.
    When you can find classic "gaming" motherboards with all the features for 3/4 of the price or even half and often with better VRM cooling.

      I have the same CPU/Mobo. 5600MHz ram though (not interested in overclocking). The main issue is that no reasonable cooler seems good enough to handle that CPU. I have a Corsair h170i and even then the CPU goes straight to 90+ degrees at full load. Avoid M.2 cards with integrated heatsinks.

      @@sherry8444 Why avoid M.2 drives with integrated heatsinks? I am about to order one and I would appreciate your answer. Thanks.

    • @sherry8444
      @sherry8444 2 года назад

      @@Alex_Greu_de_gasit It depends on the M.2's heatsink
      9:43 When he takes the mobo M.2 heatsinks off you can see a large square black standoff pad. They are meant to support the M.2. in the middle. And they didn't seem detachable to me.
      If your M.2 has an integrated heatsink (that covers the underside, not only the top), such as the Seagate FireCuda 530 (there is heatsink and non-heatsink version), then that square standoff MAY cause the drive not to lie flat... and it needs to lie flat to use the new Asus Q-Latch system to secure the M2 to the board.
      FireCuda instructions say the integrated heatsink is not meant to be removable and also says that because of the heatsink the FireCuda does not conform to M.2 specification (something a retailer may not mention). Other M.2 manufacturers may have removable heatsinks or heatsinks that conform to M2 specification and they might be fine... be sure before you buy, or be safe.

    • @Alex_Greu_de_gasit
      @Alex_Greu_de_gasit 2 года назад

      @@sherry8444 Thanks for pointing that out. I'm going for a Samsung 990 Pro with heatsink, which also covers the underside, as you said. But I checked the motherboard manual and at some point it says "For 2242, 2260 length - optional - Remove the M.2 rubber", so I guess those preinstalled standoff pads are removable. I trust the SSD manufacturer's heatsink rather than those on the ASUS motherboard, which look quite cheap.
