By far the best method I have seen/used (now) for taking out these things. I was using the summon method up until I saw this (with maxed out characters), but that wasn't even as effective as this. Thank you for making my life easier!
Props on a well put together, well explained video. Its nice when people dont just throw the video up and expect people to catch all the little details that they do to make a fight go more smoothly. I have just been finishing up the last of my missions, and am going to be doing some CP farming, going to try this out just for the fun of it with my, considerably lower level group :)
great method; i know anoda way! 1st, ur vanille. use Premeditation paradigm, Saboteur/ Sentinel/Synergist for Vanille, Snow and Hope. at d start of d battle Summon her eidolon 2 disable the 'toise's legs. once youve done that send the eidolon away; u only need it to send the toise tumbling down. now Hope wil cast haste and oda buffs, while you repeatedly cast Death on the toise till it well, dies, lol. thing is u can use this even if ur not maxed out in all d crystals. hope this helps someone!
Wowowow, thank you. This strat is op as ever. Turned my 2 week eden grind in to a 10hr pulse run. Thanks, was able to get treasure hunter with this strat!
Good times. I remember it took some time to platinum the game farming these guys. One of the few platinums I have are FF13, FF13-2, and Lightning Returns. Good games.
@Cycolon Might be a liitle late but if you still do not know.... collectors catalog aims for items drop rate but the upgraded conn catalog aim for RARE item drop rate. Which means collector aims for platinum ingot and conn aims for Trapezohedron. However, only 1 of Each will Suffice as they DO NOT STACK. Collect and conn will stack but collect , collect and conn , conn does not stack and does NOT doubles your opportunity to get items.
Just a tip in case you don't know, you can get the mission for gigantuar (Mission 54, Gigantuar is on the hills in the mountain where all the turtles are), and then kill the 2 adamantortoises there, then go for gigantuar, but retry instead of killing. both the adamantortoises will be back up. Not only do you not need to ride around looking for the other two, but its also a lot faster and don't need to save/load.
Anyone visiting this now, the least tedious way of getting a bunch of these guys together is using the Save Point next to the Eastern Tors (that canyon with two Adamantortoises blocking the two entrances off), not only are there two Adamantortoises, but a whole bunch of Adamanchelids that you can kill for Gold Dust and Scarlatite that you can cash in along with any Platinum Ingots you get from the big guys. I'm pretty sure there are a few Adamantoises hanging around the outside if you want to go kill them too, then just hit up the save point, quit, and repeat.
For people starting, I've found the Adaman just north of the save point (standing by itself in between two rock faces and doesnt move) is probably the easier one for you to learn on. Reason is I've noticed that the first one in the video (out in the field) has a different stagger point then the others, his legs break quite easily and pop right up to 400%, BUT on the other hand when you knock him down, his head only staggers at 600%! the others head staggers at about 400% = more double dmg time.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've now been downing ada's in about 3 mins as some of my equipment is not fully there yet but it wasn;t possible at all without this vid for guidance.
Hey, thanks for sharing this thing, you're technique has been most useful to me. I'm using it on Eden Hall and I believe I can save just a couple of minutes, but it is basically just what you are doing. I'll attach my video as a response once I manage to get it uploaded. By the way, fantastic quality on the video, I wish I had a HDMI capture to get a great quality on the video I'm posting later.
@MeisterNorek good luck! also, regarding the missions. that one circle in the central expanse with like 6 cieth stones in a circle; don't finish all of them or else the adamantoise/tortoises will turn into Long Gui (or variants) which are blue-tinted and way harder to take out, even with max CP
Apearantly Adamantortoises are different than Adamantoises. On your first visit on Gran Pulse, they appear first than the adamantoises. In Eden you encounter an Adamantoise (will get instantly killed by opening a treasure sphere). But will get replaced by Shaolong Gui if missions 56-62 are cleared, they appear with Long Gui.
Tried so many methods on killing these things, tried to do my own n it was just not effective, took several times downing them to kill em. Tried this one once n killed it instantly with no issues. This is the best strategy on you tube imo.
@NoelGallagherIsGod yeah, most of my Adamantoise were replaced by Long Guis and Shaolong Guis (this happens when you finish those cieth stones placed in a circle on Gran Pulse for everyone else). There's still always an Adamantoise in the Eden area before the portal room with a save point right next to it, and I believe a single one roaming Gran Pulse.
@gamegoddess123 I guess I should elaborate on it's meaning... Farming refers to spending a lot of time in one area, reaping whatever the area has to offer for money, like how farmers reap the land for crops to sell for cash... at least, that's what I think that came from
@finalfantasyfan64 Ive used the Death method, but I want to do this instead because 1.) The Death method doesn't always work and 2.) I don't want to have to fight random enemies to refill my TP after every battle.
Hey, just an FYI I figured out faster way to make them reset besides a save and reload....accept mission 54 (giant Cactuar), near the north teleport. then, climb the hill behind the chelid, it forms steps, then fight. When you win (or retry, either or) it will respawn them.
just a suggestion..maybe you should manually choose thunder when playing fang as blaster coz running to its legs will increase the chance of being stepped and the speed is low..so I would select 6 thunders, breaking it and highwind it.
you are the man! i did almost the same thing you did (when i was playing i forgot what you did so i used faithra and bravera for fang and lightning instead XD) and with my team with no lvl 3 weapons, 4 crystariums maxed i was able to kill these guys without relying on vanille's death spell XD
5:15 OVERKILL! Love doing that xD BTW I think it's faster if you farm the turtle at Eden. Just clear the area of Juggernauts and Behemoths, and you can make the turtle respawn if you walk to where the last Juggernaut was. Shorter walk, but only 1 turtle... and it'll still be there even after you finish Titan's trials, unlike these two... the Juggernauts and Behemoths won't respawn unless you pick a fight with the Sanctum Corps.
Ok, I finally went and took a crack at these guys, my crystarium is like 5/5/5/3, I had to mix up a few things cause I dont have all the stuff you do just yet for the classes. Once I got my pattern worked out I was able to take these guys down, Used Fang/Light/Hope and made some adjustments to the decks based on what 4th class I was leveling, but it worked great. Anyone trying this with weaker characters, work the second leg a but extra, Fangs buffs run out before you can highwind so less dmg.
You need to do some weapon reforming until you reach the 2nd *. - method 1: Complete Mark #7. This'll open up R&D Depot. It sells the most expensive transformable material crystals needed for upping your weapons to the 2nd *. - method 2: hunting monsters (making them respawn several times).
Hi mate! That was really cool! but can I ask you something? I know thats the final weapon of fang you using. but which one is it? I want the same as yours :)
@Cycolon thats because when you 5 star a Long Gui (or whatever it is) rare drops (being the Trap) will increase by 5 ... in other words .. .getting a Trap w/o 5 starring a Long Gui is a 5% chance ... w 5 stars ... 25% yet negates getting a Ingot.
Good, easy and sure method thank you. Only minus is that I was able to perform it after maxing crystalium, made Fang tier 3 weapon and acc giving + 750 str. With all roles maxed except one and tier 2 threre was no way.
@TheJaredThingy oh I know that pal, I meant with synthesize ability, there are some weapons that when combined with some accessory can have an Synthesize ability like "Random:Instant Chain". example my Lightning has a Lionheart * it has passive ability to instant stager an enemy when they are close to stager. if you you combine it with an Energy Sach or Speed Sach it creates a Instant Chain ability which occasionally it can stagger an enemy in 1 shot. you should try that. found out it works!
@solidpat221 You just have to unlock the person 3rd tier weapon. I.E. Omega weapon for Lightning or Save the queen for Snow. The weapon gives the extra slot
The Ogochu from the area only accessible with a Chocobo. Make sure you do the mission to kill the Neochu to get the growth egg first (spam death on it). I would post a video for it, but I think my guys are so overpowered for that area now that it wouldn't really help you
i played FF13 again for the 2nd time.,(1st play i did not bother farming trap, after main story was finished i transferred to FF13-2) ...so i played again and i now bother to maximize my stats and equips.. ..so i manage to get TRAP on my 3rd Adamantoise kill without any catalogs...haha then today i got 1 again after i woke up, maybe it was my 15-20th kill, without any catalogs again... hahaahah so i think it works better without catalogs, i even got 7 platinum ingots!
@Cycolon i recommend going to eden, leviathan plaza to farm, there is one adamantoise guarding the big space and can be respawned by walking to the big door to eden eden grand foyer . Now im farming at eden plaza for ingots and got 25 plati and 7 trapz in 2 days. The trick i did is to kill the toise 5 times and see if he drop anything. if he does then i continue if he doesn't than i reload the save and do again. Sometime i get platinum ingot streak... LOL I think Max is five.
@motherofgod4 Max your Crystarium and your Hp will go up. at the end you have 4 slots. to get Growth Egg you need to beat Neochu in a Mission and then you´ll get it as a reward there. Hes completed the game which unlocks Lvl 10 for the Crystarium.
I'm almost down to 2 last Role Levels for my main characters to max them out completely to be sure they're over 9000 times stronger than ever--with weapons and accessories upgrade of course! I've gotten the Genji Glove and now I'm gonna have to fight those big ass turtles to get Platinum Ingots to upgrade my weapons!
@vaztard1 6 I believe, one for each character. As all weapons of each character upgrade to the same name (They have different stats however) so you only need 6 traps to transform any of each characters weapons to their Tier 3 form.
@ohgreknight I forgot to mention,i figured out an easy way awhile back but i didnt mention it (yes, i beat the second orhpan with the same amount of leveled people mentioned earlier) except i didnt use fang, i used vanille, using a sentinel was a waste of time, just have vanille cast poison, then the other three status inflictions she can caste, power up with hope, and just keep staggering
Just thought I'd mention that the fifth step says to switch to Commando Ravager Ravager. I"m assuming you mean to switch to either Commando Medic Medic or Commando Commando Ravager because your process would have 7 paradigms which is not possible. Anyway, this method is great. Thanks for the upload.
Question, When are you able to get the 6th ATB bar? Because I don't see any way of getting another one and I already have all the roles unlocked, (not maxed out, just unlocked) Do you get it when you max everything out? or by getting the 3rd lvl weapons for your characters???
@haerilee They have about 360k HP, so with break + Brevera on Fang + about 260 or 280% dmg (which is about what hes at when you break them) you gota hit for 360k+ ;)
@AdamC316 Dude,I can kill Adamantoise/Tortoise in 2.10 mins.Use Sazh as leader(summon) method. You know why Sazh, his Blitz is second to none when it comes to whacking big and crowded monsters. It's kinda late to farm TP back, but this come to handy.Save before fight.Kill the thing, and reset if it don't drop anything. And repeat until it drop the things you want.
This guy has all the stuff u need from grinding turtles, ultimate weapons and i think hes maxed his crystarium. I wish someone would post a vid on how to grind these with stage 9 and a half crystarium.
@Millatime638 otherwise, you shouldn't have any problem killing them with max crystarium. You don't even need the lucky break for Lightning (I just use it because I'm too lazy to level up some more warrior wristbands). How long is it taking you to kill them, or which part seems to be taking the longest?
Which is the best place to farm? People say its Eden since there is one next to the save point and all you gotta do is go back and forth through the door and have it respawn...but in Gran Pulse there's like 4 of those turtles and if you go the Springs and accept that mission with another Adaman, there would be 5 of them....
hey man ,whats the difference about adamantoise and adamantortoise ? the second one is more easy to kill or something..? because i try to kill 1 but he kick my ass very nice ;D
Seems it is possible to use Hope intead of Vanille but he's a terrible sab. Maybe I'll try making him a rav to see if that works out. Thanks for the guidance though! It really helped me take these things down.
you most likely already did the c'ieth missions that form a circle on Gran Pulse (forgot what #s they were). The only Adamantoise left are the one in Eden (backtrack, it's right next to a save point) and possibly one roaming on Gran Pulse.
wait how did u get the 6th ATP bar? I thought u needed an ulti wep for that(prob a bad source tellin me that). What do u think is better, Light Fang and Sazh or Fang Light n Hope? Or does it not really matter?
@quito2lava i actually have a recording of killing long guis, but it takes about 6:30 to 7 minutes. I'm in the process of uploading it, but I want to find a faster way to farm those without shrouds and summons.
Haha so awesome dude I only just got into these plains and when I first saw these i was like woow wtf and quickly found out they should be left alone still haha, can't wait till I kick their asses
@Basilikus1990 I came at Vanille's Eiodolon fight with everything I had. I just couldn't balance it. I just couldn't do enough to build up the guage before the time ran out. I eventually just gave up. Someday I might play it again from the beginning. Maybe.
Just encountered these guys for the first time and got SLAIN, wanted to see how its done once your chars are pro. Where does that highwind skill come from? Thats some crazy sick damage.
I was farming Perfumes and Scarletites for money before I finished the game. It was about 4-5 hours per the 2 million Gil needed for one Trap. You would obviously get more than one Trap farming Adamantortoises in the same amount of time, right? I went and finished the game, and the spot I was using to respawn the Sacrifices went away. So I'm hoping so.
Without a buttload of HP don't bother with these guys right? I am still in the main game at the end of chap 11 and at best have 6k because i have yet to even fill the first three trees much less the otehr three new ones. I also tried to get the growth egg and whacked the guy 5 times with Death but the little bastards took out the team so i can't get the egg, yet I'm just wanting to do things before my chars are ready, right ?
whoa, i can't believe the admantoise can fall down like that. Is the admantoise in pulse as powerful as the one that invaded Cocoon (that one was pretty easy to beat.)?
yes i can finally kill an adamantoise without TP/SUMMON/FORTISOL woot! I'm not sure if this is true, but i turned on mission 63...and then i equipped collector's catalog ONLY. I get around 6-7 ingots per hour :D
Ya'll rite dude. Wondering if u can answer a question (if you know). I got the collectors catalogue n (maybe stupidly) upgraded it to the connoisseur catalogue. Im trying to farm platinum ingots NOT the trapezohedron. So would it be better to equip it or not? Or go buy another collectors catalogue? Must have killed 30+ of these things without it n only ever got one of each drop =(
@motherofgod4 Once your Crystarium is maxed out, Fang should have 24000 HP even. I'm maxed, and that's her HP as of right now. With different equipment, it should go up, but all I have on her right now is for strength.
how did he get the turtle to glitch in the first fight? it took the turtle like 10 seconds to fall after his legs got destroyed. that's some bs. My turtles take 1 second to fall.
you should also include which version you're playing this game on. i know there isn't much different...but the only different is that x360 has been hacked and i know for sure there are mods/hack for games...look at MW2 on x360 version
I remember the first time i ever saw those things, i snuck behind it and i was like "Preemtive Strike Bitch!" and then.. X_X
im lmfao so hard to this comment lol
Same bro 😂😂
1:36
Uhhhh...you alright there Fang?
By far the best method I have seen/used (now) for taking out these things. I was using the summon method up until I saw this (with maxed out characters), but that wasn't even as effective as this. Thank you for making my life easier!

great method; i know anoda way!
Good games.

@cancersback4ever she has highwind. Highwind is needed for one of the most consistent methods of killing an adamantoise/adamantortoise.
Great vid, I started doing this with Fang at 14k HP, Light and Vanille at 12k. With some physical damage reduction items this strat worked well.
Apearantly Adamantortoises are different than Adamantoises. On your first visit on Gran Pulse, they appear first than the adamantoises. In Eden you encounter an Adamantoise (will get instantly killed by opening a treasure sphere). But will get replaced by Shaolong Gui if missions 56-62 are cleared, they appear with Long Gui.
you're gooodd!! very good method, it's perfect!! the best method to beat this big guy I've ever seen.. 5 thumbs up!!
I like how the Archylte Steppe background music is in fast-forward!
@SlyCooper92 its passive...its an accessory called the Genji Glove and it just removes the 999,999 dmg cap
This is pure awesomeness. Great vid! Now I can gil-farm with ease. You've saved me hours of Death-spamming. :)
Tried so many methods on killing these things, tried to do my own n it was just not effective, took several times downing them to kill em. Tried this one once n killed it instantly with no issues. This is the best strategy on you tube imo.

wow, i just got 1,500,000 and 3 traps in a matter of 2 hours. Thank you so much! Once i figured out what i was doing wrong, i started destroying
@gamegoddess123

@AdamC316 yea the connoisseur catalog helps the rate of the rare drop (so the traps here). you should go buy a collectors catalog for the ingots
Fantastic, Thanks a lot, your technique is fabulous, I needed it badly.
Thanks for sharing!!!!
Ok, I finally went and took a crack at these guys, my crystarium is like 5/5/5/3, I had to mix up a few things cause I dont have all the stuff you do just yet for the classes. dear freaking lord that is a lot of damn work.
@solidpat221 You just have to unlock the person 3rd tier weapon. I.E. Omega weapon for Lightning or Save the queen for Snow. The weapon gives the extra slot
Really good vid, thnx for uploading, you had a much better strat than mine. I can kill them easy but this was really fast! Worked for me =)
The way this guy fights is very entertaining
The Ogochu from the area only accessible with a Chocobo. Make sure you do the mission to kill the Neochu to get the growth egg first (spam death on it). I would post a video for it, but I think my guys are so overpowered for that area now that it wouldn't really help you
This method is fucking awesome, I managed to start farming them without summons before maxing all roles.
Oh fuck, that's a massive damage! Thanks for the infos, it sounds much better than "Use Death and pray God".
@drkcrstl Yes, you should attack the target with a Commando first. It only needs to be attacked once and then the chain will go down slower.
i played FF13 again for the 2nd time.,(1st play i did not bother farming trap, after main story was finished i transferred to FF13-2)
...so i played again and i now bother to maximize my stats and equips..
..so i manage to get TRAP on my 3rd Adamantoise kill without any catalogs...haha
then today i got 1 again after i woke up, maybe it was my 15-20th kill, without any catalogs again...
hahaahah so i think it works better without catalogs, i even got 7 platinum ingots!
@motherofgod4
Max your Crystarium and your Hp will go up. at the end you have 4 slots. to get Growth Egg you need to beat Neochu in a Mission and then you´ll get it as a reward there.
Great vid helped me improve my strategy lol
Question, When are you able to get the 6th ATB bar?
Because I don't see any way of getting another one and I already have all the roles unlocked, (not maxed out, just unlocked)
Do you get it when you max everything out? or by getting the 3rd lvl weapons for your characters???
Awesome vid. I need to use these strats.
@gellycrock After you beat the game you unlock the Level 10 Crystarium which has very high HP upgrades like +500 HP upgrades for Fang.
it just allows for early stagger, which can sometimes be helpful
great stratagy i use it all the time now to farm plat ingot and traps
2:32 Fang drank some Gatorade lol. Great video By the way
thanks this video really helped me already got 500k cp!
OMG I just literally sprayed my drink all over the screen because of the sped up beginning.
@haerilee
They have about 360k HP, so with break + Brevera on Fang + about 260 or 280% dmg (which is about what hes at when you break them) you gota hit for 360k+ ;)
@AdamC316
Dude,I can kill Adamantoise/Tortoise in 2.10 mins.Use Sazh as leader(summon) method. You know why Sazh, his Blitz is second to none when it comes to whacking big and crowded monsters.
It's kinda late to farm TP back, but this come to handy.Save before fight.Kill the thing, and reset if it don't drop anything. And repeat until it drop the things you want.
@kedy1315 @kedy1315 Instant stagger.
Use these: Lionheart+speed sash+energy sash+champion's badge. (on lightning of course)
@L50cguss in this video, i think i had the power gloves and 2 speed sashes (for lucky break). i'm currently using 3x kaiser gloves now, though
@suchadouche0 there's 3 missions that reward you with a genji glove: 51, 62, 63
Damn I cant wait to get that badass
Seems it is possible to use Hope intead of Vanille but he's a terrible sab. Maybe I'll try making him a rav to see if that works out. Thanks for the guidance though! It really helped me take these things down.
It helped a lot, thank you
you most likely already did the c'ieth missions that form a circle on Gran Pulse (forgot what #s they were).
I'm in the process of uploading it, but I want to find a faster way to farm those without shrouds and summons.
oh and also... sorry about the double post but once its legs were out how did you get it into instant stagger?
Haha so awesome dude I only just got into these plains and when I first saw these i was like woow wtf and quickly found out they should be left alone still haha, can't wait till I kick their asses
@Cetrus there are three genji gloves in this game
@Basilikus1990 I came at Vanille's Eiodolon fight with everything I had. I just couldn't balance it. I just couldn't do enough to build up the guage before the time ran out. I eventually just gave up. Someday I might play it again from the beginning. Maybe.
@ZegetaX1 Equip a Genji Glove. It gets rid of the 99,999 damage cap.
I also tried to get the growth egg and whacked the guy 5 times with Death but the little bastards took out the team so i can't get the egg, yet
I'm just wanting to do things before my chars are ready, right ?
whoa, i can't believe the admantoise can fall down like that.
Is the admantoise in pulse as powerful as the one that invaded Cocoon (that one was pretty easy to beat.)?
@bluebomberx thanks for correcting that. it's been edited
yes i can finally kill an adamantoise without TP/SUMMON/FORTISOL woot!
My turtles take 1 second to fall.
you should also include which version you're playing this game on. i know there isn't much different...but the only different is that x360 has been hacked and i know for sure there are mods/hack for games...look at MW2 on x360 version
omg i need to start doing some missiosn to get the egg and glove XD but how do u get the second genji glove for light?
Can you equip both the collector's catalogue and connoisseur catalogue to increase the chances of getting ingots and trapzehedrons?
@livir001 when you have ability hovered, press right on your joystick/d-pad
@oreocookies32 Not really. Death is like Russion Roulette, the chances of getting it are harder than before
