Final Fantasy XIII - Adamantoise (No Summons)

  • Pretty simple walkthrough on how to kill an Adamantoise in Final Fantasy XIII without using the cheap summon/death method. This is one of the most efficient ways to get gil since they drop platinum ingots and trapzeohedrons.
The main thing you are going to need are Genji Gloves on Fang, and have her Commando role leveled to 5 but it helps tremendously if you have all of your base jobs leveled to 5, in this walkthrough howevver, Fangs Sentinel role is only role level 4.
To get this to work you will need 2 good ravagers on your team, I use Hope and Vanille because the main roles you will need are the ones they already specialize in.
You are going to setup your paradigms as follows,
    Relentless Assault Com/Rav/Rav
    Combat Clinic - Sent/Med/Med
    Esponionage - Sab/Sab/Syn
You are going to start out and wait for the first stomp with combat clinic as your starting paradigm. Once he stomps your team should heal you almost immediately, that is when you switch to Relentless assault and attack the first leg. I use Ruin to attack the leg with Fang because it decreases the chance of getting stepped on which is pretty much an instant death. When you see the Adamantoise raise its leg to use stomp switch to combat clinic and wait until it does. Your party should heal you almost immediately and you can switch back to Relentless Assault. Repeat this process until the leg is staggered and get its stagger gauge to around 500% then use Highwind. It will immediately knock out the leg. Repeat this process for the second leg and the adamantoise will fall.
Once it is on the ground switch to Espionage and throw on Debuffs. The only 4 that matter are Imperil, Slow, Deshell and Deprotect. While you are doing this hope will hopefully have given you a few good buffs. When all four buffs are on switch to Relentless assault and go at it. If it starts to get up before you kill it immediately use a Highwind to take out as much damage as possible before its standing.
If it gets back up you just have to repeat this process and it should be dead in no time. This works on Adamantortoises as well, which have less hp but the same drops.
Obviously there is an easier way that relies more on luck than skill by summoning Vanille's Eidolon and then spamming death, but then you have to worry about running around the field getting the 3 tp back so I find it much easier to just go around and kill them the hard way because it is much more efficient.
And yes, I know it can be done in 2 minutes or less, and that is the average time I do kill them, I was playing it very safe in this video since it is a demonstration. Plus the fact I didn't bother to take the time to optimize my equipment for the fight put me back on time a bit.

This is what I do (non summon) and it takes 2 minutes ...
    Fang/Vanille/Hope
    1) Syn/Syn/Med
    2) Com/Rav/Med
    3) Rav/Rav/Rav
    4) Sab/Sab/Rav
    5) Com/Com/Com
Start off in 1) and cast haste on everyone, then faithra on vanille and hope, and Bravera on fang. Switch to 2) and targert a leg. As soon as fang stabilizes the guage switch to 3) and stagger. Switch back to 2) and highwind the leg. Repeat the above for the second leg. Once its falls switch to 4) and debuff/debilitate. Once everything is on switch back to 3) and get 999% stagger gauge. Then go to 5) and kill.
Fang has Genji Glove. The rest of the accessories dont really matter if you are overpowered. For example I have energy sash, speed sash, and twenty sided die so no attack stat boosting accesories. If you are weaker then you are going to need to buff up longer at the start with protectra/shellra, and equip Gaian Rings and Black Belts/Imperial Armlets etc

You have to "kill" both legs in order for it to fall into the ground, there it can't attack you for a period of time which you can use to buff/heal yourself, Stagger it and then continue attacking her, if she goes back up, you have to then again kill the legs, that's the only way to prevent her stomp attack which does a LOT of damage as you can see.

Just one gripe with this video. Instead of choosing Ruin, Ruin, Ruin etc. every time, just hover over "abilities", hold right and hit the action button. This repeats your previous action of that role, so even if you shift paradigms and go back to Commando, you can still choose your 'previous set of commands' in little more than one button smash.

@musicmaniack256 The Genji Gloves removes the 99k damage cap on the character that's wearing it, allowing him/her to deal close to 1 million damage.

@TheLiveGames actually, the adamantortoise do have less health and streangth, but their magic is much higher, so a quake or roar is deadly.
the most notable asthetic differance is that adamantortoise have broken tusks, wich leads me to beileve, on a fairly irrelevant note that they are the seniors of the adamantoise population.

After beating the game the crystarium expands some-what allowing you access to a whole load of HP 'n junk :-D

not necessary, if you're sufficiently leveled and have a Gaian Ring equipped to each character the stomp shouldn't kill anyone.

@3FruitsPunch I used death a number of times and it worked. So thanks! The only problem with death is there's only a 1% chance of it sticking. So some of those battles took 15-20 minutes. But I've collected the genji gloves since so now I use the strategy shown in the vid. The difference is with the gloves, you can kill it before it gets back up. Now I'm stuck on the Shaolong Gui's lol. Can't find a way around them.

    • @nfinn42
      @nfinn42 8 лет назад +3

If you have enough HP to live through the fight, what does it matter? You get a full heal at the end of every fight in FFXIII. So any fight you live through is good enough. The goal of farming turtles is to maximize gil or items gained per hour spent. If you can do it without wasting a few seconds buffing, that's a good thing.

    • @nfinn42
      @nfinn42 8 лет назад +1

Second reply: I hadn't watched the whole video before I replied to you. His technique is sloppy and slow as hell. This is not a good example of a fast turtle smash. So my previous comment, while true in the sense that protect buffs aren't needed, may have been overly defensive of the OP video which is not really fast.

OK, here's what I don't get... apparently you can't kill an Adamantortoise if you don't have a Genji Glove equipped. But the only way to get the glove is by killing an Adamantortoise (mission 63). So how can you complete mission 63 when the only way to get the accessory you need to complete the mission is by completing the mission? I'm 160 hours into the game, I've leveled everyone up to 20k HP's or more and I still can't kill the thing. WTF?

What accessories do you use, because I was doing this and he does a lot more damage to my characters than he is doing to yours, and i have no damage reducing accessories equipped? Also, it looks like I have about the same amount of health as you do. I am guessing they are items like the gaian ring or imperial armlets or something like that, but I just wanted to know for sure.

I have an off topic question. Is it alright if I upgraded some of the characters weapons early in the game? Before ch.10+ ? I mean as long as I focus on their CP does it really matter how upgraded my weapon is? I feel like I kinda screwed up, and I don't want to start over -___-

@KooKookid520 Oh I totally agree, PS3 just holds some crowns over 360 that I miss out on by not owning it, but littler things in the bigger picture like the FFXIII graphics or FFXIII Versus. I do adore my xbox though; Halo, Mass Effect, and Lost Odyssey (to name a few) are all beloved favorite franchises/games of mine.

Impressive fight. I was spending so much time debuffing the feet cuz the stomp kept doing like 10k damage to me. I guess that was because I wasnt lvled enough. Im using a party of Fang, Lightning and Vanille. I dont have Traps for Kami's lance yet. I hope I'm ready.

@brewerfan347 try using Rapid Growth, Combat Clinic, Assassination, Relentless Assault, Espionage, and Cerberus.

Do you only have Hope and Vanille together for quick healing? Or some other reason. Cuz I would probably use Lightning as a second ravager. She's a decent medic as well.

How did Roar not pwn your party? Not damage wise but the status-ailments make all my guys immovable.

ok all my guys have 25% damage resistance, you have like 15% on 2 of yours, yet the turtle is dealing only 5k damage to you and 8-10k damage on me??

ps3 has higher base quality than xbox 360. both can be upscaled though. I'm playing the xbox version with a hd cable and a 50" tv.

@wanderer78 I'm pretty sure it is. They're just a very rare drop. I've beaten Orphan and i've killed about 10 with 2 collector's catalogs and i've only had 3 platinum ingots and no trapezohedrons :/

@TheFunnybone I am, yes FF 13 is inferior in terms of graphics a little bit but the 360 has better games overall. they have almost every PS3 game and more.

I noticed in your accessories you don't have any added protection against "Roar", yet none of your characters were stopped. Was this just luck? or am I missing something else?

@topito1994 By letting a character equip his or her ultimate weapon, like Lightning's Omega Weapon or in this case, Fang's Kain's Lance, you earn an extra ATB slot.

  • @nfinn42

I have to say that your technique is a bit sloppy. :\ I dunno if you recorded this while you were out of practice or what. But you really don't need to keep driving the chain gauge up after staggering a leg, if Fang is as well leveled as yours seems to be. Highwind will knock the leg out pretty much guaranteed with Kain's Lance. So you should have Highwind queue'd up and ready to mash X the moment the leg staggers. Also, after killing the left foreleg, you should toss a single Ruin at the right leg to target it for your Ravagers. Otherwise they'll waste time retargeting the head by default.
Next, when you realize your Imperils aren't needed (because Vanille already stuck it), why are you manually cancelling out your ATB commands? You don't need to do that. Just Paradigm Shift, that will clear out your ATB bar.
Next, why aren't you using the ATB trick to get additional ATB charges? You even have a Paradigm slot free. You should have a duplicate Relentless Assault paradigm in your deck so you can sneak in some free charges.
Finally, by doing your buffing after the turtle topples, you're wasting valuable attack time. You should get your buffs done before it falls, so all you have to do is debuffs and then get right to boosting the chain gauge. If you can fit in a Tri-Disaster Paradigm this can help get him staggered quicker. Remember that the only way to kill him in a single Stagger is to minimize any post-collapse time spent doing anything other than pummelling him for max damage. So you want to buff before collapse, debuff swiftly, stagger swiftly, and then pour on the damage.
If you want to advertise an efficient turtle farming method you've got to record a video showing tight, efficient turtle smashing. Single stagger is definitely possible with your equipment and levels, you can absolutely go faster.
