Managed to buy one of these and they are unbelievable. Every time I pick it up, I’m in awe all over again. Like the kid at the guitar store who walks in and plays his dream guitar everyday… except I walk in to my music room. Blown away by everything in this instrument.
The sound of the K14ce almost blew my mind... And made my wallet cry... I have a 2000 614ce with big leaf maple back and sides, and I really love the sound and response it gives back to yours truly mediocre player... Merry Christmas Chris, love that tune :-)
I have a 2015 614ce and I have 2019 614ce builders edition v brace but my is satin finish both 614ce are amazing beautiful and beautiful sounding and very easy to play ,I also have five other Taylor high end guitars, Taylor is my love of all guitars,I have Martin guitars to but I love the Taylor guitars much More that's my opinion.
I actually prefer the tone of the non-Koa one better. Taylors can be quite bright, which is fine, but I prefer a darker tone. It is why I play mine with my fingers and the more skin the better (side of thumb vs toward the tip). It darkens the tone. And if I want volume but the darker tones, I just plug in. Beautiful guitars though, both. Cheers!
I have a2015 614ce and 2015 816ce and man I love both these guitars and a 1980 martind28 and it is the best Martin guitar that I've owned and I've had a lot of Martin's I have never played a bad Taylor guitar to me they are the best of the best in the past I had two Martin d35s a d28 twelve string and two d28,s the Martin's were hard to play this 1980 d28 plays as easy as my Taylor's but I had it set up by a professional
Hi Chris, as much as I love your reviews and this 614CE, I just struggle to buy the idea that bracing improves intonation. Intonation/tuning is a very mathematical thing with vibrating string length the only variable to play with for any single string, hence all the ideas surrounding compensated saddle, split saddles and fan frets etc. In fact there’s no perfect intonation for the 13 note-octave western music scale, and piano tuners typically have to choose 1 of 3 available “compromises” when tuning pianos. So whilst your experience playing this Taylor indicates very good intonation, I doubt it is due to bracing. If this narrative came from Taylor, that will be too gimmicky. 😅
Which one did you think sounded better? Through headphones to me I rather the surprising warmth and sparkling top end of the maple, but the koa guitar looks better to me.

Taylor is definitely onto something. Watch out Martin.
Iam getting a 614 ce. Tomorrow looking forward to it😊
So beautiful it brought a little tear to the eye.
The arm bevel is really nice when you try them out. I could see them becoming more prevalent in the next 10 years.
