Over 20 years ago, I bought a 614ce. During Daniel's playthrough, the 614ce seemed to have a clearer tone, less subdued then the other two guitars. It spoke to me more. I guess I made a good choice way back when.
When the V Class came out, I upgraded from a 414ce to a 614ce. I’ve always liked maple and have a 2006 NS62ce, which is also maple. I play a lot of instrumentals and the maple brings out my finger style picking. Yes, it’s very transparent!
I bought the builders edition K14ce and this is my favorite of all acoustic guitars. The koa gives this guitar a great warm feeling. Almost like the guitar has its own personality. I actually feel like it makes me play better.😊
I have the Taylor 524: all mahogany back inside, is your K 14 deluxe model, have that same warmth and residency and boom on it.? Because I’m thinking of selling my guitar, and putting that money towards a K 14 deluxe model, that’s why I was asking, I am visually impaired Blind and I need a little bit of advice from you guys.
@@moisesperez4605 all I can say is it depends on what you like. I love my K14ce. The high’ s and low’s are awesome. The older it gets the better it sounds I’m told.
I have the 814ce and it is an excellent guitar. It has a nice low action right out of the box and so the entire fret board is accessible for one chord per stroke (while reading a lead sheet) the electronics are excellent and the battery is easy to change quickly But it does not need to be played on an amp .. the acoustics are excellent .. for song circles, bands, open mikes. It is slightly smaller than dreadnaught without loss of sound quality.= thus a little easier as performing guitar.
I really liked the K14ce. They all sounded great. I really loved the tone of the K14ce. Seamed really rich and full. but as I said, they all sounded fantastic.. currently have a 741ce with cedar top. Wish they still made this model. Actually had to have the top replaced two years ago due to an accident. Thank you Taylor for the restoration and the cedar top!!!!!
I have 2015 614ce,2018 814ce DLX V brace,2015 816ce,2020 614ce Builders edition whb v brace,2020 K-24ce v brace,2015 914ce ,Baby Taylor,And I sold all my Martin guitars except a 1980 D-28 it's the only Martin guitar I've ever actually loved,I bought the Martin Used it's in mint shape original case and this is a really great sounding guitar,But I bought the Taylor's brand new and they are the love of my life my guitars I played a lot of them to get the ones I love,If I don't love a guitar I don't keep it, I sold Ten Martin guitars including a D45 ,Three D 35,D-28 twelve string, and HD 28,and four other D28S. I had binding come off several of them and the twelve string was the hardest to chord I've ever seen I'm not real big on Martin guitars,But this 1980 D-28 I love it almost as much as my Taylor's. My opinion Taylor makes the best playing and sounding guitars out there and I've owned a lot of different brands of guitars I also love Guild guitars I sold one and I've reqreted it every day.Martin and Gibson your buying the name in my opinion way overrated. The K-24 all Koa it's starting to open up koa takes time and they will be really beautiful sounding mine as already impressed me a lot it keeps getting better and better.
The 814 and K14 for me had a similar sound - a beautiful bass response while strumming but with high-end somewhat lacking. The 614 lacks the superb bass response of the other two but hand-down has the better fingerpicking sound. All three are obviously top-class guitars and it comes down to personal taste.
They all sound great but there are subtle differences from the tone woods. The maple sounded a bit brighter and balanced especially during the finger style playing. The rosewood had the strongest bass response particularly when strummed hard. For me the koa was the Goldilocks "just right" version. It's subtle and clear when played lightly and really opens up when you dig into it. I think they would sound even more similar when plugged into a PA in a band setting though maple traditionally would be the choice for controlling feedback and offering balance in the band mix. I think a showdown across body styles would highlight a much more pronounced difference and counter some of the dreadnought traditionalists who claim that all Taylors sound the same and don't have the bass response of other more traditional big name acoustics.
My preference is Taylor guitars, I have a 814: & 5 to 4: beautiful guitars, the playability is awesome, and right now I’m either going to get the 614: or the K14, still debating which one, I am visually impaired and blind, and I like the way you guys describe these guitars thank you
I love my Taylor K26ce, I play it every day doing Steve Krenz's Finger style course with it. And it sounds terrific. I love it so much that I may buy another Taylor, not sure which one and since I am left handed I kind of dread going through all that hassle again. I love the 814 tone
I own both a K14ce-BE and an 814ce-LTD (though the 2019 limited with Blackheart Sassafras). The 814 had more bass response and works well for me when strumming. It allows me to put more energy in while maintaining a clean sound. As for the K14, I agree with one of the other comments about its "sparkle". I tend to prefer it when playing higher up the neck or when doing finger style playing. I've played the 614ce-BE in direct comparison with a K14ce-BE and a 717e-BE. Maple just seems to have a resonance that neither of the others have and though my next guitar will probably be the 717e-BE (to replace a 410e-LTD, X-brace for bluegrass) because it better fills a hole in my collection, I would still love to get a 614ce-BE someday.
I have I an814 deluxe V-class And a 614 Andy-powers redesign X- brace. They both sound excellent, and different from each other, and yet I still love them both. I tried a K 24CE, I bought the K 26CE, x bracing, All are awesome
Well done. The 814 provides a traditional known sound and the bass overcomes some of the V class compromises with lower frequencies. I agree the ebony finger board looks cool. Koa is beautiful , but I don’t see it as a superior sound choice to RW, Maple or MH/Sapele. It may well open up with time but us older folks may not have that to play with. Has Taylor considered a maple back and side Grand Pacific?
814CE and K14CE are very very similar in both tests. 816ce is a bit quieter and less bass. I honestly could not find much difference between K14ce and 816CE, K14CE perhaps K14 sound is a bit more compressed due to koa back and sides. Differences between the two are very subtile. TEST 1: 814CE 0:52 614CE 1:51 K14CE 2:39 TEST 2: 814CE 3:33 614CE 3:50 K14CE 4:01 TEST 3: 814CE 5:52 614CE 6:03 K14CE 6:09
Both the 814 and the Builder's edition are the ones I like but the Koa with Spruce top seem to be the warmest sound all around. It seemed to sound the most balanced to my ears.
K14ce but I'm biased as an owner. The 814ce sounds similar, but the K14ce has a certain roundness and fullness to each note. Plus the Builder's Edition ergonomics make me want to play mine forever. But that's my preference - everyone has different playing style and preference. Let's be honest - can't go wrong with any of them. Love the GA body.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, and if I had the room and the money I'd get all three. However, the K14 Builders Edition stood out to me with great sound on both strumming and fingerstyle, and it is certainly a looker to boot. I have an 814ce that is the X-Braced (2015) model that I love so I'm already set.
All three guitars have a very good tone, but the 814 stood above the others when it comes to finger picking (in my taste) adding that sweet and rich rosewood tone. I like what is being said about maple transparency, and ability to enhance some good players capacities too (makes me think, and it's worth considering further on). The 614 worked well on regular strumming I thought (kind of equal and different to the others I'd say, even tended to like it better than the K14 BE on the very 1st bit). Builder's Edition could need more time to stand above I kind of suspect . / . Anyway I'd be happy with any of them, if it's my Christmas pressent you're thinking of 😊 (don't hesitate 😇 ).
Dave Trujillo I am interested in two models the 414ce and 314ce . The sound quality are very close and changes of course are the woods being used on each model. I really wish I could try one at home for myself to see how I would acclamate to them.
I like (and have) a 614ce. Play it in, and it has tremendous bass and sound. I prefer the 812ce Deluxe 12 fret or 811e instead of the 814ce as they seem to show off these two tone woods better. I've never had a chance to try a K14ce, but have given a GSMini Koa.
Agree w Daniel: the 814 did it for me, and such a stunning fretboard to boot! I like the look of the Builders Edition K14 but It didn’t seem to punch the fingerstyle the way the 814 did.
I would have loved to have heard the 714 with the lutz spruce top and rosewood back for comparison. It would be great to be able to play all of them side by side in person but I’ve never been in a store that has all of them in stock at once so need to rely on videos like these to get an idea of the differences.
The combo of Lutz top and Rosewood back has a great sound. I've never done an A/B comparison to Sitka, but recently purchased an 816ce Builder's Edition with a Lutz Spruce top. Over the years I've owned 7 different Taylors with Stika Spruce, Cedar, and Koa tops. This 816ce is the best sounding Taylor I've ever played. Very articulate, huge volume and perfect balance of highs and lows. I'm not sure how much of the credit goes to the Lutz top, but based on the marketing it has the stiffness of Sitka to handle aggressive strumming, but is less dense which can give a warmer sound than Sitka for fingerstyle and light strumming.
I own both a 614 and 814 (I pinch myself every time I look at them!). To me, the 814 is a better all around sound, either acoustically or amplified. Have only played various Koa models at road shows in the past, love the look, but the tone leaves me flat.
While I was initially looking to buy a K14CE, I did try a V-class 914CE in a guitar shop and was shocked by the distinct piano like rendition of each note/string with basically no cross over. I tend to therefore agree with the player here on his preference toward the 814CE which is somehow close to 914CE. I would say that the K14CE behaves like a pass band filter that tends to foster the Mids thus the warm feeling we get while the 814/914 behave the opposite way where Bass and Highs are more up front. Not to say this a personal view...
@@timb007 No, that was more or less a joke response. But you're right that would be an interesting A/B...the only differences I'm aware of are the Lutz vs Sitka tops and aesthetics -- the 814 having a bit more bling. I am seriously happy with my 714ce v-class, which I bought to stay within my 3k budget cap and because I love its plainer and "woodier" look. Cheers
Please, please play 'em back to back. Do the long winded chat by all means if you must - but not in between the sound comparisons. 814's on my shortlist but this didn't help one bit!
I own, and really like, the 814CE. Unfortunately, I traded in my 614CE for the 814CE but wished I'd kept it. The video does not do justice to the difference in tone between the 2, to my ears. The K14CE sounds too boomy to me in the video; I have not tried one in the store.
I just saw all 3 of these and fell in love with all 3..However at my price range i was more interested in the 614. It was on sale i believe for $2999 at guitar center san jose ca.
In this comparison, I liked the full bass of the 814ce. I own and love my 614ce-BE but it really has a chameleon personality depending upon what fingernail, pick, and amplification I use. For that reason, I relate to the comments in the video about how the maple seems to take on and reflect the player’s taste and style.
Taylor’s are fine instruments and are loved by many. However, their sound (for my taste) is too tight. They just seem to lack “openness.” Very few acoustics today “breathe” and that’s okay for many, but I’m hard pressed to find a Taylor that I love.
That 814's fretboard is sick! So beautiful
I love all of the Taylors but I am totally in love with my 814ce guitars...Thank You Taylor for making such great pieces of art.
