I like how this product line follows what you could expect in real life. You have the first iteration that may be groundbreaking in ways, but isn't very practical yet, the balanced and improved second iteration that really takes off, the "pro" model that only sees limited use, then the more affordable model, then the one where they get lazy, then the one where they course-correct and have another success, then one made for the government which ends up being pretty useless actually, then a couple more designed to only to be small iterations to keep the product line alive.

I love how The Mandalorian backs up that the R6 came out after the Battle of Endor by showing us multiple R6’s. Love seeing them in live action, probably my favorite design for astromechs.
In Legends, sales of the R3 were so big that IA didn't have enough R3 specific domes, so to save time and money, they fit the domes of retired/broken/salvaged R2 units and placed them on the R3s, hence Goldie's solid-colored dome.
I love the design of the R7 series droids. Whenever I go to Galaxy's Edge, I'll build me an all black R unit, and then see about getting the head swapped for a R7 model. I'll even see about trying to get the head in a smoky transparent head so you can see lights underneath.
Darth Revan Actually thats a philosophical debate on how AI works. Droids that afe not memory wiped regularly like artoo and or C3PO tend to develop a complex sentience. Its even a debate in the real world as we are nearing singularity.

the droid that Luke said a bad motivator was actually for sensitive and saw Luke was too, so he persuaded Owen to buy him using a mind trick, but then he had a vision of R2 D2 being taken to Darth Vader and then the death star blowing up the rebels and he knew that Luke would need R2 D2 and C3PO so that they can see the transmission from Leia and the rebels would be saved after he had that vision so he sacrificed himself for the fate of the republic.
R4-P17 didn't always have an R2 series head. She started out with a conical-shaped head. On the planet Gyndine, as she was attempting to repair a trash compactor, it activated, crushing her. Anakin Skywalker found what was left of her and rebuilt her with an R2 series dome.
0:24 funny enough, the P2-Series astromech droid actually got Industrial Automaton sued due to, if i remember correctly, using parts from other companies. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
I don't know if you noticed it, but the R6 is canon, you see one, docked in a X-wing on the Rebell base in Epi.7. He had a red dome, but I can find a picture, and I don't have the movie buyed yet to make a screenshot.
I don't think so because when bb was in the workplace getting fixed poe had another bb unit called CB-23. He's always had bb-8 and the only droids that have the tag R0 would be the R0-GR.

Astromech names are shorter versions of their full serial numbers. So while he is referred to as R6-H5, he is a R2 model, with his full name likely being something like R2-R8B7.
You forgot that R2 units can also be modified to hold cold lomin ale, like Garrik "Face" Loran had his modified to do. Of course he thought I didn't know about it, and was quite surprised when I took his last one.

Fun fact the r5 unit purposely broke its motivator unit so r2 can be bought intead after the 2 droids spoke to eachother on the crawler on how r2 had a important message to deliver so the galaxy owes a thanks to an r5 unit

I remember in one comic, Darth Vader ordered one Imperial Astromech to go into space and then self-destructed.

R7s are wildly underappreciated! Ion resistance is very useful, but most importantly, they are pretty!

The P2 droid was 2.3 meters tall. That is a bit taller than a human. It was successful on capital ships, which inspired the B series.
i think there were only a P2 unit and not P1 units because the P2 units go to the bathroom often since the name P2 can be thought of as “PP”
