    As I watching your splendid adventure, I am mourning the loss of my youth. My husband of 50+ years & I have restored/remodeled our different properties over the years. We were always considered adventurous...or crazy! Seeing what you two are doing in Italy, makes my heart sing all the while I am wishing I had another life to spend being more adventurous. Oh to be even 40 years younger! I would definitely choose to follow in your footsteps.
    You & your girls are creating a stunning home & a remarkable life for yourselves. Well done! Whatever will you do when you complete the renovations?
    Wishing you every speck of joy & contentment! ...do your girls need a pony? How about a pony & a 2 wheeled cart!!! 😊 Cheers!

    • @picholoup
      @picholoup 10 месяцев назад +6

      kiskatalin2206 it's amazing what the people living in these mountains accomplished. Just imagine the transportation with the little technical means they had a t the time. Those walls, where every stone has been placed with precision and they were just rather poor farmers, not real builders.
      We took the mortar off our outside walls. The stone has another color here, it's more of an honey color, but the construction is about the same. We did joint them though and insulated the interior walls with hemp chaff and loam . The winters here in the mountains are cold and wet and while we loved our bare stonewalls in the beginning of our journey some 42 years ago, we quickly realized they were too expensive in heating materials. So we still have the beautyful stonework on the outside, but the comfort of a very efficient insulation on the inside. This also works for the summer to keep the place fresh, because once a stone wall really is heated through, it works like a stove. But of course this looks gorgeous, but, hey, experience will tell them that this will cost them enormous amount of heating material over time, and depending if they really plan to live there for their whole life, they will learn eventually.

    • @bettyoliver2417
      @bettyoliver2417 10 месяцев назад +1

      But didn't they say that ACCORDING TO REGULATIONS, the OUTSIDE HAS to be insulated or am I rembering wrong?

    • @morningstarbedell5318
      @morningstarbedell5318 10 месяцев назад +1

      I was admiring the wall to beautiful

    • @picholoup
      @picholoup 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@bettyoliver2417 I don't know about Italy, here in France it's your choice. I personally preferred the inside for several reasons. The windows in these old houses are kind of small, so besides the insulation we put on the inside to keep heating costs(wood) lower, it also was a question of light. And our stone is a much warmer color and much lighter than theirs. I kind of wish I could put a photo in here to show the difference. It's funny though because the color of the stone can change in short distances. Our village, as the crow flies, is only three kms away, and the stones down there are very much like the stones in the video.

    Wow! I thought the stonewalls looked good once you took all the mortar/lime off of them, but they have absolutely come alive after this power washing. I would’ve thought it would’ve caused the whole thing to tumble down into a pile of rubble. I guess that’s why it’s always good to consult the local craftsmen. Thanks for bringing us on this journey.
