Mocking is ridiculous as music is so subjective but how on earth did such a band so lacking in talent make it? there is nothing out there more rudementary barring the sex pistols and of course simple can be good too

These guys were so good when they were young and hungry. I'm sure they still are. Saw them a couple times in the 80's, saw Rattle and Hum in the theaters twice on opening day and went to see their pop up live performance in San Francisco that was featured at the end (All Along the Watchtower).
One of the great benefits of living where I did during the birth of Thrash Metal and the area's access to luve music of varied gengres.
Plus, this makes all the Irish DNA in my body (most of it) go absolutely barmy.

    Legendary groove by Larry.

I love being able to go back and see their set from the US Festival, such a raw performance. Bono was obviously inspired by the crowd. He, in turn, used that energy to fire up the audience (early in the day even). The thing most people forget is that the band is not immune from Bono's magic. They get pumped too. Amazing to behold.
I was at both US Festivals and this was one of the high points of both. Considering how early in the day they played, they managed a ridiculous level of hype from the crowd.

This was U2 when they were still great. Which to my mind was up to Joshua Tree. They were still young and hungry, playing 300 gigs a year and out to prove themselves. Most bands decline once they become successful - They get married, have kids, record an album on occasion and play maybe 40-50 dates a year in summer. I'm not blaming them for not wanting to spend their whole lives on a tour bus, but the constant touring and hunger is what makes a band great to begin with.

I know Red Rocks quite well...too well. Been to a handful concerts there in the mid 80s (also saw U2 at the old McNichols Arena in Mar1985 and again in 1987 for one of the Rattle & Hum video shootings), and we use to run the stairs and seats for Ski Team workouts (when running the seats, the goal was to one step each row, and they got further apart the higher you ran up them.

Their Las Vegas residency starts tomorrow (9/29), unfortunately Without Larry as he’s still in recovery mode per his doctor after back surgery a few months back. It’s at the $2-3 Billion (!!) Sphere and they’re the very first act to appear there. There should be numerous videos up by the time the weekend comes to an end. - “Scheduled to consist of 25 concerts from 29 September to 16 December 2023, the engagement will inaugurate the Sphere with performances focused on the group's 1991 album Achtung Baby.” -- more info here:

I heard a lot of early U2 for the first time from this recording. The versions from this album became the "standard" versions for me and when I eventually heard the studio versions, I was often a little underwhelmed. This just seems to me to be the perfectly captured blend of studio and live. Obviously it's all live, but they are pretty faithful to the studio, with just the right amount of "in the moment" re-interpretation.

IIRC, Night Flight almost always played U2 songs from this live performance... So it was much later when I actually heard the album versions... lol. The rest of the live performance is pretty darn good. For me, this live performance is peak U2. Not really a fan of their later songs - but really liked their earlier stuff for sure. It is interesting that the comments each seem to have a different peak U2 era.
